MINUTES 1. Welcome John Bashford welcomed all present. 2. Minutes of Previous Meeting The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted without alteration. 3. Matters Arising Minute 4.1 General concern was expressed over the lack of publicity regarding the revised CIBSE Guide D in the Building Services Journal and related trade journals. Around 192 copies of the new Guide D had been sold. John Bashford advised that the guide had been well received within the lift trade however it was felt that the price of 80.00 for non-members was restricting sales. There is a potentially wider market for Guide D and many more copies would be sold if the cost was reduced. John Bashford reported that he had spoken to delegates who attended the first two Guide D roadshows in London & Manchester and they had all stated that they found the roadshows were very informative and the inclusion of a copy of Guide D within the seminar fee represented good value. The format of Guide D was discussed and possibility of a loose-leaf format was raised and Peter Day advised that the bound volume publication was the standard CIBSE format. Andrew Saville advised that the lighting Guide was to be produced on a CD-rom in addition to the traditional bound volume. This option would be examined when the current guide is revised, the next revision is likely to be in 3 to 4 years time. Peter Day suggested that the Lift group should look at the structure for the next revision of Guide D. Work on the new guide would need to start in the next 2 years. 4. Standards and regulations 4.1 Gina Barney reported that BS7255 has been issued and is officially available from 15 th June 2001. Gina also reported that the A6 (pocket book) version was would be available shortly. 4.2 Gina Barney reported that the comments on the draft revised BS5655 Part 6 were due back in July 2001. The panel was due to review in August/September and would probably go before the BSI panel in October. Page 3 of 4

4.3 John Bashford advised that the IEE Wiring Regulations Sixteenth Edition had been revised and was available as British Standard BS 7671: 2001. 5. Seminars 5.1 The CIBSE Guide D seminar was held in Manchester on 25 th April 2001. Gina Barney issued details of receipts & expenditure as following : Income: 22 attendees @ 22.50 Total Income - 495.00 Expenditure: Stamps (800) - ( 152.00) Envelopes + Labels - ( 46.96) Copying (1000) - ( 50.00) Honorarium Speakers (5) - ( 250.00) Total expenditure - ( 498.96) Balance - ( 3.96) The subject for the annual seminar was discussed and it was agreed that as the new BS7255 had just been published it would be a relevant topic. Gina Barney advised that she would contact persons involved with the preparation of the document and invite them to participate as speakers. Gina agreed to undertake the organisation along the lines of the Guide D seminar in Manchester. The date of Wednesday 28 th November 2001 was proposed. A further seminar in the North of England some time in the new year would be considered if sufficient interest was shown. John Bashford advised that the delegates who attended the Guide D road show in Manchester asked for further events to be presented in the area. Ish Buckingham advised he would publish the event in Elevation. IB Page 4 of 4

6. CIBSE Lift Group in Hong Kong 6.1 There were no further items to report on this matter since Richard Peters update in the last minutes. 7. Lift Incident at Southampton 7.1 John Bashford advised that he attended a meeting at the Health & Safety Executive on 9 th March 2001 as a representative of the CIBSE lift group. The meeting was called following a double fatal accident. Two men fell to their deaths, down a lift shaft in a block of flats in Southampton on 4 th February 2001. 7.2 The main discussion at the meeting was the general security of lift doors. The exact details of the incident at Southampton were not revealed, as there was still an ongoing police investigation. The HSE stated that they had issued a bulletin following the incident numbered E023:01. The bulletin states that HSE`s mechanical engineering experts are currently concentrating on the door retaining system at the bottom of the door. The bulletin provides checks, which should be undertaken by maintenance companies and competent persons. Copies of the bulletin are available from the HSE. 8. Any Other Business No other business was raised. 9. Next meeting The next meeting will be the Annual General Meeting, this has been arranged for 21st February 2002 at 4.00 pm with a short presentation at 6.00pm The Venue is The Southampton Room, Adam House, 1 Fitzroy Square, London Page 5 of 4
