First Generation 1. Lisetta Cornealia BEITEL 1 was born on 13 Feb 1820 in Christiansbrunn, PA (Northhampton Co.). She died in 1899 at the age of 79 in Hope, Indiana. She was buried in Moravian Cemetary; Hope, Indiana. Lisetta's birthplace of Christianbrunn means "Christian's Spring" and is better known in Pennsylvania as Christian Springs. It was located in Upper Nazareth Township, in Northampton County near where Nazareth, Pennsylvania is today. Lisetta died in Hope, Indiana and was buried in the Moravian Cemetery there. Lisette came from very good stock. Her family started in this country in the person of Johann Martin FREY who came to the U.S. on the ship "Myrtilla" on Sept. 21, 1765. His lineage to Lisetta is as follows: Johann Martin FREY married Maria Magdalena SCHERER. children; John FREY born Jul 28, 1781 and Maria Magdalena FREY born Mar 7, 1788. Maria Magdalena FREY married Wilhelm Fredrich BEITEL. children; Lisette Cornealia BEITEL The Beitel's and Frey's were listed in the congregational records for the Moravian Church in the Northern Jurisdiction in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Records have been found with the spelling of Lisetta's surname to be Beitle, Beitel, Bytel, Bietel and Beittel. Lisetta has been spelled as Lucetta, Lisita and Luzetta. When William died in August of 1856, Lisetta must have been one or two months pregnant (the infant was born March of 1857). The pregnant Lisetta loaded up the children, Emily was 11, George was 10 and Amos was 7, and headed back to Hope, Indiana where the infant was born on March 8th 1857. The baby only lived two days and was buried in the Moravian Cemetery in Hope, Indiana. Lisetta was listed in the 1860 Indiana Census as age 40, born in Pennsylvania and occupation as Seamstress with Emily C. age 14, George H. age 12, Amos B. age 10 all born in North Carolina and Mary F. age 5 born in Illinois. She was listed in the 1870 Indiana Census for Bartholomew County as Lizetta age 50 born in Pennsylvania with son Amos age 20 born in North Carolina, occupation listed as Loom Boss, and Mary age 15 born in Illinois and listed as attending school. Little else is know of Lisetta from 1857 until she married Nathaniel Thomas Fetter in 1871.This is the same Nathaniel T. Fetter that witnessed the marriage bond for William and Lisetta back in 1843. It is not known if he was with them on the trip from North Carolina, if he had left earlier or if he came later. Sometime prior to the marriage to Mr. Fetter, a new brick home was constructed for Lisetta in Hope, Indiana and a brick mason was hired by the family to lay the brick. The brick mason was Benjamin Keller from Cincinnati, Ohio. The story as told by Lisetta's great grandson, Andrew Benjamin White, is that while Benjamin was working on the new home, he fell in love with Lisetta's daughter Emily and they were wed in late 1863. When Ben came to work he often brought his younger sister Mary Anna Keller along with him. During the course of construction Lisetta's son Amos and Mary Anna fell in love, they continued their courtship and were wed in early 1874. 1

Second Generation 2. Frederick Wilhelm BEITEL 1 was born on 8 Mar 1786 in Nazareth, PA. He died on 1 Mar 1842 at the age of 55 in Moravian Cemetary; Hope, Indiana. Nazareth Hall was the Moravian Boarding School for boys in Nazareth, Northampton Co., Pa. It was started around 1755. A Frederich W. Beitel was listed as a student in 1796. In 1796 the Moravian authorities divided the settlement into 100 acre farms which were sold primarily to the resident Moravians. Daughter Lisetta was born in Christianbrunn in 1820 and married William H. J. White in 1843 in North Carolina. A recent lead has uncovered the fact that a Frederich W. Beitel was listed in the 1830 PA Census for upper Nazereth Twp., Northampton Co. as being between 40 and 50 years of age. This would have meant that he was born between 1780 and 1790. He was also listed as having 1 additional male between 10 and 15; 1 female between 5 and 10; 1 female between 10 and 15; 1 female between 15 and 20; and 1 female between 40 and 50. This last female was probably his wife and since Lisette was born in Feb of 1920, she would possibly be the female listed as between 10 and 15. This has not been confirmed as of 12/31/96. In a 2006 newspaper article printed in the Savannah daily newspaper this short description of the Moravian Church in South Carolina: "Like the Salzburgers, the Moravians were also German-speaking Protestants fleeing Catholic persecution. They arrived in late 1735 and early 1736 and became involved in educating the Indians living near Irene Mound along the Savannah River in South Carolina. The Moravians did not stay long in the colony, however. Their attempts to preach to slaves in South Carolina and their refusal to bear arms in defence of Georgia won them few friends, and the sect had largely moved to Pennsylvania by 1740." The source was listed as "Savannah: A history of her people since 1733," by Preston Russell and Barbara Hines; and "Colonial Georgia: A history" by Kenneth Coleman. 3. Maria Magdalena "Molly" FREY 1 was born on 7 Mar 1788 in Northampton Co. Pa.. She died on 27 Mar 1875 at the age of 87 in Wayne County, Pa. Johann Martin Frey arrived from Germany by ship in 1771 and served in the Revolutionary War. His service has been confirmed by the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution under the name of Martin F. Frey. His memorial at his grave site in Forks Cemetery in Stockertown, Pa. reads: "Martin Frey was a Revolutionary War Patriot with the 4th Battalion 7th Company of the Northampton County Militia serving in 1778. Martin was married to Maria Magdalena Scherer the daughter of Henrich Scherer and Catherina Dorothea Heller. They had a son Jacob born in 1783 and is buried in the same cemetery as his parents. His grave stone is in Row 14 of the old section of the cemetery." Another family fact was later added, "a son Henrich Frey (1779-1857)". Maria Magdelena SCHERER and Johann Martin FREY were married. 7. Maria Magdelena SCHERER 1 was born on 14 Apr 1760 in Northampton Co. Pa.. She died on 13 Dec 1815 at the age of 55 in Northampton Co. Fourth Generation 8. Heinrich Beutel 1 was born on 18 Jan 1711 in Neundorf, Germany. He died on 4 Dec 1765 at the age of 54. Heinrich Beutel was deacon of the Church of the Brothers in Herrnhut when he died. He was a missionary for 24 years (1739-1763) with the Indians of Barbados and Surinam (northern South America). He was brought into contact with the Brotherhood through Georg Ender. Georg and Heinrich were leading a group of illegal emigrants (including Heinrich's sister Elisabeth) across the border. Heinrich was caught and thrown into jail in Jaegerdorf, but escaped. He met a woman named Katharina Ludwig who turned him in to the authorities. He again fled and emigrated illegally. He was followed by four men on horseback and two more on foot. He hid behind a bush, throwing himself on the ground as the men walked right by him. He arrived in Peilau where Baron von Seidlitz took him in. He left there at the end of 1735 and went to Herrnhut. In 1737 he went to Ronneburg and Herrnhaag. During that time he met and married his wife Elisabeth and she followed him into mission work as he was assigned to a mission station in Berbice, British Guiana. They worked through many hardships in the missionary service. During a period of pestilence and insurrection in Berbice, Heinrich with his wife and children were driven out. The mission was destroyed and Elisabeth spent seven weeks lost in the wilderness. She somehow found her way from Berbice through Termeran then to the Netherlands by ship and finally home to Herrnhut in November of 1763. It is not known if Heinrich or the children were with her through this ordeal but the German document indicates that two of their sons died in 1763.
