CO R K TOWN L AN D LOCATIO N OVE RVI E W CORKTOWN DETROIT Corktown is a historic district located just west of Downtown Detroit, Michigan. It is the oldest extant neighborhood in the city. The current boundaries of the district include I-75 to the north, the Lodge Freeway to the east, Bagley and Porter streets to the south, and Rosa Parks Boulevard to the west. The neighborhood was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The neighborhood contains many newer homes while maintaining some original Irish business and its many Victorian homes. The Corktown Land Package is located near the main strip of Corktown. Apart of the revitalization of Corktown is the Quicken Loans 66,000 SF Technology Center at 1401 Rosa Parks Blvd., the Detroit Police Athletic League s Headquarters, and the newly established Elton park that will have 151 apartments and 13,400 SF of retail space. Many restaurants have occupied Corktown as-well including, Slows Barbecue, Astro Coffee, Nemo s and Nancy Whiskey. CORKTOWN LAND UPCOMING DEVELOPMENT ELTON PARK - CORKTOWN DEVELOPMENT Soave Enterprises received approval for the Michigan Strategic Fund s Board of Directors for a $6.9 million Community Revitalization Program investment in the $44 million project. The project will span five blocks on the northeast edge of corktown. Elton Park will have six buildings with 151 market-rate rental units totaling 124,000 SQ FT of residential space and 13,000 SQ FT of retail space. The buildings will offer diverse selections of living as well as the redevelopment of the Checker Cab building into residential lofts. The development will feature Corktown s first green alley, Checker Alley. THE CORNER - MICHIGAN AND TRUMBULL The Economic Development Corporation of the City of Detroit selected Larson Realty Group and its Tiger Stadium Partners to develop the Michigan ans Trumbull blocks of the historic Tiger Stadium site. The approximately $33 million project includes a four-story building along Michigan with approximately 30,000 SQ FT of ground floor retail and 102 residential unites. The have committed that twenty percent of all of the units will be affordable housing. During the project the Tiger Stadium Partners have committed to making community involvement a critical component. PAL HEADQUARTERS - TIGER STADIUM The Detroit Police Athletic League announced that it has achieved its fund-raising goals for its new headquarters and youth sports facility at the Tiger Stadium site at Michigan and Trumbull. The project will break ground in early April. The $11.3 million PAL headquarters will be an L-shaped structure along Cochrane and Michigan Avenue that partially encloses the historic playing field in the city s Corktown district. On the opposite side of the field Larson Realty has won the right to develop another portion as The Corner. The two developments will ring the historic playing field, which will be used for baseball and other youth events. 7
