Travel Program to San Francisco October 26 29, 2017 Organized by The Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum Isamu Noguchi, Maquette for U.S. Pavilion Expo 70, 1968. On view in Noguchi s Playscapes at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum, New York/Artists Rights Society (ARS).

TRAVEL PROGRAM OVERVIEW This October, join The Noguchi Museum for a four-day, art-filled excursion to San Francisco, coinciding with San Francisco Museum of Modern Art s exhibition, Noguchi s Playscapes. In addition to a private curator-led tour of the exhibition, we will visit art collections and organizations that provide a rich experience of the thriving art scene in San Francisco and Napa Valley. ITINERARY THURSDAY, OCTOBER 26 Guests will arrive in San Francisco independently. Suggested flights are provided by The Noguchi Museum. Hotel accommodations will be made at the InterContinental San Francisco. Late afternoon We will begin with a visit to the Minnesota Street Project, a philanthropic venture that is home to 38 working artists and 12 galleries. Director Julie Casemore will welcome us and provide an overview of the project s mission and unique set up. Andrew McClintock will then lead us on a tour of his gallery, Ever Gold [Projects], whose group exhibition will include work by Tom Sachs. Afterwards, philanthropist and arts champion Ann Hatch will lead us around her new venture, Workshop Residence, which collaborates with artists, designers, and manufacturers to create functional objects for everyday living. Evening Following the Workshop Residence visit, we will stay in the Dogpatch neighborhood for a welcome dinner hosted by Noguchi Museum Trustee Andrew Fisher. At Piccino, we ll enjoy a meal of seasonal favorites inspired by the produce of local farmers. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27 Morning We will begin our day at the newly expanded SFMOMA with a private tour of Noguchi s Playscapes by Curator of Architecture and Design Jennifer Dunlop Fletcher. Afterward, there will be time to explore the museum s new galleries and extensive collections on your own. Exhibitions on view include Alexander Calder: Scaling Up, Walker Evans, Side by Side: Dual Portraits of Artists, and Between Two Worlds: Art of California. Afternoon Enjoy lunch at Greens, an iconic vegetarian restaurant at the forefront of the farm-to-table movement. Founded in 1979 by the San Francisco Zen Center, the restaurant boasts spectacular panoramic views of the Golden Gate Bridge, as well as a redwood sculpture by J.B. Blunk, a friend and mentee of Noguchi. We will be joined by Paul Discoe, Japanese master builder and Noguchi Council Member, who built the restaurant. He will discuss his experience working with Blunk and the restaurant s background. After lunch, visit FOR-SITE Foundation in Fort Mason for a tour of Sanctuary, an exhibition featuring 36 artists from 21 countries who have designed contemporary rugs reflecting the basic human need for refuge, protection, and sacred ground. Participating artists include John Akomfrah, Cornelia Parker, Rashid Rana, and Ai Weiwei. From FOR-SITE, we will head to a private visit at 500 Capp Street, the 1886 Italianate-style home where conceptual artist David Ireland spent 30 years creating his work. The house is filled with artwork, installations, and interventions by Ireland, and is widely considered the centerpiece of his career.

Evening Guests will be treated to a special dinner at Boulibar, located in the historic 1898 San Francisco Ferry Building, which features Mediterranean dishes and craft cocktails. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 28 Morning Our day will focus on two major art collections in Napa Valley. Our first stop includes a tour of the di Rosa Collection, founded by Rene di Rosa (1919-2010), a prolific collector whose famed vineyards enabled his development of a world-class art collection. Now housed across three galleries and throughout the surrounding landscape, the collection is considered the most significant holding of Bay Area art in the world, including important works by artists with ties to the area, such as Mark di Suvero, David Ireland, Bruce Nauman, and Larry Sultan. Afternoon SFMOMA trustees Norah and Norman Stone will welcome us to Stonescape to view their private art collection. Our visit will include a tour of their Art Cave a 5,750-square-foot structure built inside a mountain on the Stone s property along with Skyspace and Skyplane, site-specific commissioned works by James Turrell which capture the artist s fascination with light. Guests are also invited to take a swim in the heated pool to view Skyspace. Other artists whose works are on view include Marcel Duchamp, Karl Holmquist, Jeff Koons, Mark Leckey, Cindy Sherman, and Andy Warhol, among others. Evening Our last dinner together will take place at Cala Restaurant, an upscale Mexican eatery from acclaimed Chef Gabriela Camara. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 29 Morning Director Jenny Dixon will host a goodbye breakfast at hotel restaurant, Luce. While we are not planning any visits on Sunday, we would like to offer the following suggestions to you if your schedule allows: Berkeley Art Museum De Young Museum Green Gulch for the Sunday Meditation program Legion of Honor SUGGESTED FLIGHTS New York City to San Francisco on Thursday, October 26, 2017 JetBlue flight #415 at 9 am from JFK, arriving 12:32 pm at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) Delta flight #490 at 9:40 am from JFK, arriving 1:13 pm at SFO Virgin America flight #1023 at 10:30 am from JFK, arriving 1:49 pm at SFO San Francisco to New York City on Sunday, October 29, 2017 JetBlue flight #416 at 11:52 am from SFO, arriving 8:31 pm at JFK Delta flight #470 at12:55 pm from SFO, arriving 9:35 pm at JFK Virgin America flight #1024 at 1:45 pm from SFO, arriving 10:24 pm at JFK Delta flight #2040 at 4:10 pm from SFO, arriving 12:46 am at JFK Delta flight #1155 at 9:40 pm from SFO, arriving 6:06 am at JFK
