RICH HISTORY. OAKVILLE, A TOWN OF RENOWNED HERITAGE. 1807 marked the settling of British immigrants to the areas surrounding Dundas Street and the shore of Lake Ontario. When the Crown bought the waterways surrounding this 960 acre area in 1827, Robert Kerr Chisolm and Thomas Merrick began to industrialize the town. Oakville s first industries included shipbuilding, timber shipment and wheat farming. Further industrialization introduced Petro Canada, Shell Canada, Procor manufacturing, and most well known, the Ford Motor Company s Canadian headquarters. In 1962 the town of Oakville merged with its neighbouring villages to become the new Town of Oakville, rich in its history, and full of potential.
