The REIQ registration course contains the compulsory seven competencies required for registration, namely CPPDSM4080A, CPPDSM4009B, CPPDSM4008A, CPPDSM4012A, CPPDSM4022A, CPPDSM4010A and CPPDSM4015B. To be eligible for this registration you must be at least 18 years of age. You do not have to be employed in the real estate industry in order to undertake the REIQ registration course. Please contact REIQ Professional Development if you would like further information. Property Managers please note: The units Fair Trading has stipulated for Registration provide salespeople a good basis of valuable knowledge to commence their careers in the industry. However, these units do 5 REIQ Training not provide property managers a comparative level of knowledge about property management legislation and practice. For this reason, REIQ strongly recommends all students who intend to enter the property management field undertake additional units of study. Further information A summary of Employability Skills developed through the full Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate) qualification as well as a copy of the REIQ Student Handbook containing information on REIQ s policies, procedures and fees can be viewed on the REIQ website at reiq.com.

Career option: Property manager How do I become a property manager? To act as a property manager in Queensland, you must be registered with Fair Trading. To be eligible for this registration you must be at least 18 years of age and working for a licensed real estate agent. It is unlawful under the Property Occupations Act 2014 to work for a real estate agency as a property manager and not be registered. This is because people performing property management functions come within the definition of salespeople under the Act. To become registered you will need to complete seven units of competency stipulated by Fair Trading. The REIQ Registration course contains the compulsory seven competencies required for registration, namely CPPDSM4080A, CPPDSM4009B, CPPDSM4008A, CPPDSM4012A, CPPDSM4022A, CPPDSM4010A and CPPDSM4015B. The REIQ Registration course is a four day program encompassing all of the above competencies or it can be studied online or by fast 2 day tutorials. Successful completion of this course will entitle you to apply for your Registration certificate. A full course outline on this program can be obtained from Professional Development or your local REIQ Training Centre. REIQ s Property management Block is designed for those students wishing to enter the property management field with the additional skills to become the best property manager they can. REIQ strongly recommends all property management students who enrol in the Registration course also enrol in additional property management units in order to maximise their knowledge of legislation and practice relevant to property management. If you don t have experience in real estate, but wish to pursue a career in property management, you may like to consider undertaking a property management traineeship. Many agencies use this scheme to employ people new to the industry as it provides them financial incentives as well as a structured and tailored training plan for their new recruits. Information on traineeships is also available from REIQ Professional Development or your local REIQ training facility. If you have completed any prior real estate training or if you have experience in the industry, you may be eligible to apply for RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning). If you would like more information on this option, please refer to the REIQ RPL Information sheet or contact Professional Development on 3249 7347 or your local REIQ training centre. Future career progression The REIQ Registration course will give you seven credits towards a full real estate agent s licence. A full licence is required if you want to own or manage a real estate agency. Property managers may choose to specialise in commercial and industrial property management or move into management rights. The REIQ runs specialist programs and traineeships in these areas. REIQ also offers a wide range of programs designed to meet the special requirements of various industry sectors. 6

Career option: Licensed agent Why obtain a full licence? A real estate agent licence is a mandatory requirement under the Property Occupations Act 2014 to own or manage a real estate agency in Queensland. In addition, this program will enhance and progress career development for all real estate professionals. Many salespeople and resident unit managers also obtain a full licence for a number of valid reasons. Holding a full agent s licence provides salespeople a substantial point of difference in their marketplaces. Resident unit managers often seek to hold a full licence to provide further revenue producing opportunities to negotiate the sale of units as well as looking after the property management. How do I become a licensed real estate agent? The Property Occupations Act 2014 requires that a person wishing to obtain a full real estate agent s licence complete recognised competency units of the Property Services Training Package CPP07, through a registered training organisation. The REIQ delivers this training throughout Queensland. This course consists of the 19 competencies as listed on the PO Form 1-1 (the real estate agents licensing application form from The Department of Justice and Attorney-General). The application form and accompanying notes can be downloaded from the government website, www.fairtrading.qld.gov.au When in the site, hover over Property agents and managers then click on Property agent forms. You will need a PO Form 1-1 for licensing purposes. The course competencies are completed online regardless of whether you attended class or chose to study online. Once competency is achieved for all 19 competencies, the REIQ will issue a transcript of results and statements of attainment. A copy of the transcript should be attached to your licensing application. If you have completed any prior real estate training or if you have experience in the industry, you may be eligible to apply for RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning). If you would like more information on this option, please refer to the REIQ information sheet Applying for RPL and the Guide to completing the RPL application or contact Professional Development on 3249 7347 or your local REIQ training centre. Future career progression The REIQ has partnered with Griffith University and is proud to be part of the delivery of the Bachelor of Business (in Real Estate and Property Development). Anyone completing their full real estate licensing course through the REIQ will automatically be given a credit against this subject as part of the degree program. Property degrees are also offered by other universities but these do not offer a full licence as part of the degree. This means that anyone completing a property degree such as the Bachelor of Business - Property Studies or the Bachelor of Applied Science - Property Economics will still need to complete either a registration course or licensing course before being eligible to practice in the real estate industry in Queensland. 7 REIQ Training

Fee protection Fee Protection measures: under the Standards for NVR Registered Training Organisations, REIQ protects fees paid in advance through membership of the ACPET ASTAS. Pay by the month Pay by the Month is available to REIQ students who enrol in the Licence course. For more information and Terms and Conditions contact the Professional Development team on 3249 7347. Australian Student Tuition Assurance Scheme (ASTAS) The primary focus of the ASTAS is to provide assurance to domestic students that they will receive the training for which they have paid. Where a RTO is unable to provide the training for which it has received payment, the student will be placed with a suitable alternative training provider or in the case an alternative cannot be arranged the student will receive a refund of fees for training not provided. Australian Student Tuition Assurance Scheme (ASTAS) ensures that any Australian student displaced from a course, due to a member s inability to continue the course, is relocated efficiently and with minimal disruption to a comparable course with another ASTAS member or approved provider. The ACPET ASTAS that REIQ is a member of has been approved by ASQA as an alternative fee protection measure under the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015. Confirmation of ASQA s approval is available on their website. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) The REIQ has a structured process for providing RPL to students participating in the Full Licence program. An information sheet on RPL is available that describes the process and includes an RPL application form. An application fee of $100 plus $50 per competency is required for RPL with any remaining units charged at the individual competency price. However, in some circumstances, it may be cheaper to pay the full discounted Real Estate Agent Licence course fee rather than the RPL fee plus the balance of competencies on the per competency price list. The REIQ undertakes to charge students the lower of the two fees to ensure that the most you will be required to pay is the full course fee. 9 REIQ Training

Cross Credit If you have previously completed any of the competencies listed in the Full Licence program through the REIQ or any other registered training organisation, then the REIQ may provide you a cross credit, or credit transfer against these units. In some circumstances, real estate units undertaken in other states will also attract cross credit, depending of legislative content. The Professional Development team will assist you to identify these competencies where applicable. There is no cost associated with obtaining cross credit if the full course is being undertaken. It is the student s responsibility to supply the REIQ with full evidence of any prior qualification or statements of attainment. A copy of the REIQ Student Handbook containing information on REIQ s policies, procedures and fees is available at reiq.com 10
