Centenary Convention 2016 EDINBURGH FRIDAY 13TH SATURDAY 14TH MAY World Greats and Great Scots sponsored by
Introduction Hosted by RIAS President, Willie Watt, the RIAS Convention, the single most significant event in the Incorporation s annual calendar, is also one of the largest architectural conferences in Europe. The Convention is peripatetic, travelling round each of the Incorporation s six Chapters in turn. To mark the Incorporation s centenary, this year s event takes place in the RIAS place of birth, Scotland s capital city, Edinburgh, within the territory covered by the Edinburgh Architectural Association. Our day and a half of discussion, debate, fellowship and celebration features an inspiring range of speakers, local, world Scots and international. On Convention Friday we assemble in the superbly restored Mansfield Traquair, originally designed as the Catholic Apostolic Church, by the Incorporation s founder and greatest benefactor, Sir Robert Rowand Anderson. Our Friday speakers include inspiring voices from Barcelona, Paris, London and Edinburgh itself. On Saturday morning, at the National Gallery at The Mound, our line-up promises to be plentiful, diverse and uplifting, including insights on the work of some of the best known ex-pat Scots in world architecture and visions of imaginary futures, all within the context of 2016 s Festival of Architecture. The RIAS is grateful for the generous sponsorship from Gartcarron Fire Engineering, Senior Architectural Systems and Sturrocks Joinery which enables us to deliver our usual highly competitive prices.

Proud sponsor of the RIAS Centenary Convention and Centenary Awards Dinner The PURe window system is the UK s first commercial aluminium window system to utilise structural PUR insulation, a revolutionary use of a tried and tested insulation material. Achieving U-values as low as 0.71 W/m 2 K, and improved carbon calculations, the specification of PURe to achieve a reduction in the overall carbon footprint of a building can also save money as well as energy. The system is the next generation of evolved products, designed to exceed current and meet future legislation.
