2013 Highlights

AIA Nebraska New Home, 335 North 8th Suite A Overhaul of all operations for efficiency. Excellent visibility in Haymarket Exhibits in the process of being scheduled. First Husker Football Game Tailgate.

AIA Nebraska 2013 Goals Participate in National AIA Repositioning Initiative. Conducted survey fact gathering and insight. Report findings to membership; Lanny McIntosh, AIA, CSR Director. Increase and continue UNL College of Architecture involvement, support, influence and participation. Met with Kim Wilson, Interim Dean to determine College of Arch plan; to be shared with membership in the near future. Jeff Day, AIA, has joined us on the Board as representative of the College of Architecture. Working towards landing a position on the UN College of Architecture Professional Advisory Committee.

AIA Nebraska 2013 Goals (cont.) Grow AIA Nebraska by developing a mentoring buddy system pilot program involving Associate AIA and AIAS Nebraska members. Developing a mentoring buddy system pilot program involving Associate AIA and AIAS members. Assigning Associate members to AIA Nebraska Board members for mentoring purposes, including attendance at the Annual Conference. Hosted an Open House for AIAS Mentors and AIA Members. Creating a First Friday Exhibit for Associate Members. Resume and revive PAC/Citizen Architect with focus on IGCC, Proactive and reactive legislative Reviewing initiatives, revising and updating outdated legislation. Solicit Government Affairs Committee Call for Interest. Conduct Legislative Roundtable at AIA NE Annual Conference. Will be testifying before the Nebraska Legislature in opposition to taxes on professional services.

Legislative Highlights 60 day Session Last Session: LB 7 (Senator Krist) Change and eliminate provisions relating to signatures and seals under the Engineers and Architects Regulation Act. Adopted and became law. LB191 (Senator Nordquist) Adopt the Nebraska Job Creation and Mainstreet Revitalization Act and provide tax credits. Remains in Committee Next Year s Session: Proposed Changes to the Nebraska E & A Regulation Act. Most of the proposed changes are minor issues or language improvements, discussion focusing on the proposal to rewrite Exemption levels for clarity and to eliminate confusion between statues and Board rules.
