William Lambie Drummond 1857 to 1919

Drummond 1856-1895

ROBERT DRUMMOND I 1725 & Agnes Renfrew Their seven children baptized in Low Paisley, Rénfrewshire: 1. i. John Renfrew Drummond II, 1751/52. married Jean Craig; 2. ii. Robert Renfrew Drummond II, 1753 married a McFarlane; iii. Cristen born March 1, 1759, is unknown; vi. Agnes born April 19, 1761, Mearns is unknown; 3. v. James Renfrew Drummond II, 1762 married Jean Steel Weir of Highiess vi. William b. October 4, 1764, Low Paisley is unknowan.

JOHN Renfrew DRUMMOND II Born 1751 & JEAN CRAIG In the SORN CHURCYARD Plot 63. Erected for: John Drummond died Kirkoswald 18.6.1882 age 72, IMO daughter Margt 20.3.1870 age 18, daughter Agnes 21.3.1870 age 20, Father, John Drummond died Shalloch on TIg, 4.8.1859 at age 92, mother Jan Douglass 25.9.1825 36, Grandfather John Drummond died 11.7.1822, grandmother Jane Craig 25.7.1826 age 84. JOHN Renfrew DRUMMOND II was the oldest son of Robert Drummond and Agnes Renfrew. He was born January 9, 1751 in Renfrew (died 11.7.1822). About 1772 he married Jean Craig who was born October 3, 1742 in Eaglesham (Neilston) Renfrew (Jane Craig 25.7.1826 age 84), no marriage is registered. John Drummond and Jean Craig in Mearns:- November 14th 1782 was born William son lawful to John Drummond and Jean Craig in South Muirhouse in the parish of Eaglesham and baptized the 8th day of December." Also: Agnes born 11th baptized 22.5.1774 (presumably died young), Agnes " 7th " 12.11.1775, Robert " 4th" 7.6.1778, Jean "16th Aug" 3.9.1780. As there are no marriage records for the Mearns prior to 1825 and those for Eaglesham are blank from 1771-94, no search could be made for the marriage of John Drummond and Jean Craig. The old parochial registers of Eaglesham, however, were searched from 1770-88 for the births of any further children born to them, but none were found to have been recorded there.

Children of John Drummond II and Jean Craig: 1. JOHN Craig Drummond III born about 1772 and Janet Douglas born about 1787 married April 28 1807. The marriage is registered in both Sorn and Symington. This family farmed Sorn Mains. Death dates: Father, John Drummond died Shalloch on Tlg, 4.8.1859 at age 92, mother Jan Douglass 25.9.1825 36. With the names and death dates found it confirms William's story about their son being the "old" John Drummond who married Baird. 2. Agnes Drummond born 11th baptized 22.5.1774, died young 3. AGNES Craig Drummond III b. November 7, 1775, married John Dunlop of Som. They had one daughter Agnes Drummond Dunlop born February 20, 1793 in Sorn. No further information has been located. 4. ROBERT Craig Drummond III married Jean Brown. Robert was born June 4, 1778 in Southfield, Mearns.. They married March 20, 1812 in Craigie and they farmed 150 acres called Camsiscan of Nether Place. Their son Robert married Lambie and farmed Bogwood. William the author of this family history is their son. 5. JEAN Craig Drummond III born August 16, 1780 married William McFarquhar born March 20, 1774 of Riccarton on December 14, 1810 in Craigie and Riccarton. 1851 census - Jean Farquhar, widow, 70 years at Campbell St. Riccarton, born Muirhouse, Mearns Parish, Renfrewshire. At her marriage to William Farquhar she was said to be "of Craigie Parish". 1881 Census we find a farm in Eaglesham called South Moor house with some 2800 acres near Mearns. Jean and William have two children: John David Farquhar born October 9, 1813 and Janet Shaw Drummond Farquhar born November 15 1815, who married December 5, 1834 to Alexander Shedden of Riccarton. 6. WILLIAM Craig Drummond III born November 14, 1782 married Mary Sloss and farmed at Fairwells and their son Robert farmed Pocknave. November 14th 1782 was born William son lawful to John Drummond and Jean Craig in South Muirhouse in the parish of Eaglesham and baptized the 8th day of December. 1841 William Drummond, farmed Fairwells, which lies next to Camsiscan,

JAMES "Jim" DRUMMOND FAMILY STORY Son Bob Drummond writes: My dad Jim was one of the three Sons born to William Drummond in Manitoba and he was employed as a diamond driller mostly in British Columbia after the War. Dad married December 8, 1930 to Mary Kilmek who was born in Calgary. After mother and he were married they farmed in the Prince Albert area for a few years and that was where my older sister Marianne was born in 1932 and my brother Bill arrived in 1934. After this and the dirty thirties they gave up farming and dad went back to drilling again. This meant that the family moved from job to job every year or so, mostly living in tents in northern Ontario and Quebec and I, Robert was born in Halifax on April 17, 1937. These many long years of moving around the country, living in whatever type of shack was supplied was taking its toll on mother and us kids. In 1943 when dad was sent to Marmora, Ontario to drill for copper, mother let dad know that she was done moving and the family took up roots here and where they have been ever since. Dad kept on drilling but mostly in this area, our house burnt to the ground in 1951 in the daytime, no one was home at the time, we lost everything except what we were wearing. Six years later in 1956 dad and I started building some houses and in 1959 we opened a retail building supply store called Drummond Building Supplies. Dad ran the store and I looked after the contracting and building end of the business. Dad retired in 1973 and I've kept the business going and growing ever since. We have spent the last five months expanding and renovating the present store. In 1995 my daughter Peggy and her son Jamie now work at the store, our daughter Debbie is our travel agent and my wife Florence looks after home base and keeps us all under control. DRUMMOND BUILDING SUPPLY CELEBRATED 41st ANNIVERSAY May 311994: After 35 years in business, Bob Drummond and his family are still, going strong and have joined forces with Homecare. Tied in with their anniversary the Drummonds held a Grand Reopening as they have expanded their store which is located east of Marmora, along highway no 7 At this special ceremony Bob and his son Jamie cut a ceremonial log instead of the traditional ribbon. Bob explained the reason for the log cutting this way, "not 35 years ago but 40 years ago, I built my first house at 16 years of age in 1954. Using this saw to cut the logs". To both of their surprise the saw still worked which may be a sign that both the saw and the Drummonds will be around for many years to come. Son Jamie started real young working before school and he would come to work in the morning from 7 to 9 and be right back after school for closing. Jamie is the third generation of Drummonds to operate the store. Jamie's wife Shelly also helps out when ever she is needed. Bob states: "My parents operated the store from 1959 to 1973, and they are not with us now, but, I want to thank them very much for their inspiration, support, dreams and help they gave us and our family.

January 15, 2003,' oc4 DoSt.9du aedfrft2oos( 711 1ee Dmc#d I, I am enclosing the first peek into the William Drummond family history that has been a long time in coming to print. After five or so years, some memory loss, yearly commuter crashes, a move just last year which cleaned out over ten years of good junk, I am now on track. The 100 pages enclosed features the William Drummond families. I would appreciate your comments, additions etc. If you find anything not to your liking please do not hesitate to e mail me. The photos scanned are on low resolution and the will get better. There are a few blank families which I have not been able to get information or photo's from and if anyone can help make their pages stand out please feel free to do so. The photo's which are included are the only ones I have so if you have additional ones of any family including your own please scan them and e mail them to me and they will be placed in the book. The other chapters in the book will include: 1. The Drummond of Perth to way back to the Hun's, 2. The Drummond family from 1725 to 2003. This chapter alone will be 300 pages plus as! have had very good luck in contacting numerous family members around the world. Just last week I received a photo of our William's brother John who died in 1892 and he was the last that I need a photo of 3. The Munro family of Scotland, Nova Scotia, Manitoba and yes my mothers family of 12 children will take up a few pages. I would ask that you check the dates etc. and if you would like to up date any family, it would be appreciated. ind ( Do He th Box 35 Station Main Edmonton, Alberta T5J 209 (780) 454 7980 email dheathtel usplanet. net Place DRUMMOND in Subject line as at present I am being SPAMED
