2014 AIACC AEP Young Architect Award: Letter of Nomination Stephanie Silkwood, AIA, LEED AP As the founding member of our chapter s highly active and very successful Emerging Professionals Committee (EPC), it is truly my honor to nominate Stephanie Silkwood for this 2014 AEP Young Architect award. For over five years (and counting!), Stephanie has been an integral part of our organization and profession, actively contributing not only to numerous AIA committees and initiatives, but also to CAB and NCARB committees. She has been recognized through several AIA chapter and state Presidential Citations. A full list of her contributions and awards would be too numerous to list in this letter, and can be found later in this application. Locally in our Santa Clara Valley chapter, for example, some of her on-going contributions include: Helping to plan numerous EPC educational and networking events; Holding several IDP seminars to help de-mystify the licensure process; Contributing to an ARE Study Group that has successfully seen many of its members obtain licensure; Helping to launch our chapter s Mentoring Program in 2013; Inspiring others to attend events, join committees, and actively engage with the AIA. She has also recently risen to the challenge of co-chairing our new AIASCV COTE committee, where she is taking the lead on planning a lively Pecha Kucha-style event for our September chapter meeting. Stephanie is a true professional, and embodies all of the qualities listed in the selection criteria for this award. She is extremely pro-active, highly reliable, thoughtful, collaborative, dedicated, and wise beyond her years. I am always inspired by and appreciative of her point of view, as are so many of my peers at the AIASCV, and beyond. Stephanie is an exceptional role model for young architects and emerging professionals, and I feel so fortunate to have met her through her leadership involvement with the AIA. I hope you agree that she is very deserving of this award. Additional support may be found in the following pages. We look forward to hearing from the AIACC AEP regarding this nomination, and thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Britt Lindberg, AIA, LEED AP AIASCV 2014 President AIACC Board of Directors AIACC Planning & Finance Committee (408) 885-8188 britt_lindberg@gensler.com

9/4/2014 2014 AEP Award Jury AIACC Academy for Emerging Professionals 1303 J Street, Suite 200 Sacramento, CA 95814 RE: Letter of Commendation for Stephanie Silkwood, AIA Dear AIACC & AEP Award Jury, I am writing this letter of recommendation in support of Stephanie Silkwood s nomination for the AEP Awards Young Architect Award. I met Stephanie in 2011 at the AIA Santa Clara Valley ARE Study Group. She founded the Study Group and has been of vital importance in successfully helping many emerging professionals become licensed, myself included. Stephanie has encouraged many of us to join AIA chapter events before becoming licensed, demonstrating her strong capability as a bridge linking architects at all levels in great collaboration. From my experience serving with her on the Emerging Professionals Committee, Stephanie has shown that she is a true leader, mentor, and an inspiring young architect. She often gives the most valuable opinions for events coordination and broadens my perspective for this profession. Her commitment to the younger generation of architects and foundation of the AIA community is unwavering. When I asked her to speak to recent graduates and students regarding IDP and ARE, as a NCARB IDP Coordinator she not only presented first hand information from NCARB very clearly, but also tells me: "set a time and I will be there" without a doubt. Her attitude reflects how much she is willing to sacrifice her time and talent for others in need of help in our community, which demonstrates the true spirit of an aspiring architect. What I most respect is her passion to provide opportunities for others and her willingness to help people grow as stronger leaders in the industry. I sincerely hope the legacy Stephanie has left for young architects is recognized and will continue to impact more people. Respectfully submitted, Fanny FJ Wu, AIA 2014 Associates Director AIA Santa Clara Valley Chapter Job Captain AP+I Design
September12, 2014 To Whom It May Concern, SUBJECT: 2014 AEP Young Architect Award Letter of Support Stephanie Silkwood, AIA LEED AP AIA Santa Clara Valley COTE Committee Co-Chair Stephanie Silkwoood is one of the top three most active and committed AIA members in the AIASCV Chapter! When I started as Executive Director, she was among the first to seek me out and invite me to join in on committee meetings and activities, as well as introduce me around to our members. Any time I, or the Chapter, have needed support, Stephanie has been quick to respond and offer her help and expertise. I am grateful for all of her numerous contributions to the Chapter and to the profession. She has set an amazing example for others in many ways than I can count. She is an extremely strong advocate and spokesperson for AIA and our Chapter, and a natural collaborator with members and other organizations related to our profession. I know she will continue her wonderful work on behalf of architects and good design as she goes forward in her career.
This recent event (held as part of a chapter meeting) was a great success. We had 12 speakers, and we were able to invite the public to see what architects do.
I served as the primary organizer for half of the events on this sheet and assisted in planning the remainder Chapter 'Tracings' Newsletter Article July 2012
An example of one of the many social events I planned as part of the Emerging Professionals Committee for AIASCV. I organized this event 3 years in a row.
I started and led this study group for 7 divisions + the CSE. The group has continued to be very successful since then. I also organized six weekend ARE workshops for those who could not participate in study group or wanted extra assistance.
