Annual Expenses A Message from our CEO & Board Chair Programs & Services 83% Fundraising 9% General & Administration 8% As we celebrate our 30th year in ministry, Habitat Greensboro has placed over 465 families into affordable homes in our community and 429 internationally. Since 1987, Habitat homeowners have paid over $3 million in taxes. And, we have offered over 500 classes for homeowner success. As we celebrate 30 years, we look forward to the future. In 2017, Habitat built our 30th anniversary house in 30 days! We will repair 30 homes in Habitat neighborhoods. We will celebrate 30 classes we teach, 30 things of which we are most proud, and 30 things we have learned! (We call that Oops 30.1!) We will continue mission work in Honduras and expand our international reach by adding Kenya, one of the poorest countries in the world. We plan to open a second ReStore to build even more houses! In August, we will present the Summer Bash, themed: One Night One House. In November, we will collaborate with Greensboro Builders Association for Raising Roofs, building 5 homes in 5 days in a home builders event held since 2003. This year is GBA s 60th Anniversary and we will have built a total of 60 houses together! Habitat is especially grateful for our partnerships. We will open The Greensboro Housing Hub with 6 other housing non-profits in one building. We believe this Housing Hub will be a model of collaboration for cities across our nation to emulate with Greensboro leading the way. 2017 is the foundation of Habitat Greensboro s next 30 years of transformation and innovation. Habitat believes that together, one family at a time, we can build a world where everyone has a decent place to live. COMPASSION: We value having a caring heart for those we serve, for those with whom we work, and for those who serve Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro. 252 ENERGY efficient homes since 2002 4600 volunteers DONATED their time Paid in Full Three simple words, PAID IN FULL, who doesn t like to hear that? To a Habitat homeowner, those words are extra sweet as it culminates a payment process but not an end to a relationship. Over 30 years, 77 Habitat homeowners have paid off their mortgage. In 2016, we celebrated 24 homeowners who paid off their mortgages at a mortgage burning. This event was an opportunity to recognize the perseverance and dedication of these hardworking homeowners. On the day she closed on her Habitat home, LoUna began saving her extra change. She saved every extra nickel, dime and penny, and in June 2016, she cashed in her savings and paid off her mortgage 14 years early! Homeowner, Kesha, said that even when she was struggling during hard times, she kept paying her mortgage. She spoke of her home as an investment - a source of pride and stability for her family. She appreciated the support network of Habitat homeowners and staff that encouraged and inspired her to work towards those three simple words: Paid in Full.
Outstanding Volunteers $1.37M economic IMPACT of volunteer hours Joe White Volunteer of the Year Award Arnold Jeffreys Arnold Jeffreys began volunteering with the Habitat Greensboro construction team in 2003 through St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. After volunteering on Saturdays for a few years, he joined the Weekday Crew. Since 2007, Jeffreys has been volunteering nearly every Wednesday and Thursday and has become an integral part of Habitat Greensboro s Weekday Crew. In addition to Habitat, he volunteers with his church and has participated on mission trips. It is volunteers like Arnold that make Habitat Greensboro so successful. We couldn t do it without you, Arnold. Thank you! Gerard Davidson Lifetime Achievement Award The Gerard Davidson Lifetime Achievement Award for 2016 was awarded to Geneva Metzger and Joseph Stiefel. Geneva Metzger has been active with Habitat Greensboro since 1987, volunteering with First Baptist Church. Through the years, she has served as a Habitat Board member, Weekday Crew Member, Family Selection Chair and as a member of numerous committees. She provides meals for Habitat s AmeriCorps members and Collegiate Challenge students and faithfully contributes her resources to Habitat. We are grateful for Geneva s tireless dedication to Habitat. Joseph Stiefel began volunteering for Habitat Greensboro in 2002 when he was drafted by another member of the Weekday Crew, Palmer Shelburne. Since then, he has been a consistent member of the team working with the construction staff almost every week during the year. A man of few words, Joseph would prefer working on a house than talking about himself but we have it on good authority that when he is not volunteering with Habitat, he enjoys manicuring his yard. We thank Joseph for his many years of service to Habitat. Wyndham House What s the biggest thing you ve ever recycled? How about an entire house? That s what we did when Wyndham Worldwide and the Wyndham Championship made a gift-in- kind donation of the Wyndham Worldwide Fan Amenity House called Key to Wyn. Located adjacent to the practice putting green at Sedgefield Country Club, the goal was to convert the Key to Win House into a home for a family. In early 2016, we began discussions with the Wyndham leadership to consider the possibility of disassembling the structure and rebuilding it for a family. The tournament used one of our house plans to create this popular fan amenity during the PGA TOUR event in August 2016. After the tournament, the building was carefully deconstructed, trucked to our site and then rebuilt by our volunteers. The end-result is a beautiful new home for Joseph, Kadiatu and their infant son, Justin. Habitat Greensboro, Wyndham Worldwide & the Wyndham Championship is truly a winning combination! Visit this year s Wyndham Championship in August to tour the Key to Wyn house and see pictures that tell the story of one of the greatest recycling efforts ever!
College Connection UNCG Campus Chapter In the Fall of 2016, UNCG established a Habitat Campus Chapter. This chapter was due to the hard work of Dr. Stephen Sills, Center for Housing and Community Studies and Habitat staff members, Justin Williams-Blackwell and Kelsey Vermeer. Their first project was raising trusses on a Habitat home. We look forward to many more projects from these inspiring student leaders. Small Wonders In 2012, the Small Wonders Endowment began offering educational grants for secondary education to Habitat homeowners and their children. In 2016, Small Wonders granted over $14,765 in scholarships to eight recipients. Ranging from technical certifications to four-year degree programs, these students are working hard to further their education. Congratulations to Shama Bekhet, Biology major at NCA&TSU; Kabinga Kiebebe, Pharmacy Technician at GTCC; Sthesy Koradjim, Electrical Systems Technology at GTCC; Brianna Moore, Biology at WSSU; Tahemma Moore, Biology at WSSU; Marcia Oliver, Masters of Divinity at Bennett College; Iymani Spruill, African Studies and Psychology at UNCG; Youssouf Tassaou, Driver Training at Carolina Truck Driving School. $358K property taxes PAID BY Habitat homeowners Homeowner Training Every year, we educate new and existing homeowners on a variety of topics vital to successful homeownership. From nutrition and budgets to maintenance and insurance, we taught over 290 people in 91 classes on 59 topics. Thirty-one instructors taught over 220 hours! We continue to grow this important facet of our homeownership program, as we expand post-purchase classes and LifeSkills Training. Collegiate Challenge Each year, Habitat Greensboro is fortunate to participate in Collegiate Challenge, a nationwide service program for college students to build, renovate and repair homes during their spring break. In 2016, Habitat Greensboro hosted Eastern University and Columbia University for two weeks. This is an incredible service program. Eastern University has been visiting Greensboro for spring break every year since 2011. Housing Hub In the spring of 2016, an idea began to take shape. Habitat began asking: What if all the affordable housing nonprofits were in one location? Imagine the difference a one-stop shop for affordable housing for our community. What if rather than giving clients a typed referrals list, we could walk them over and introduce them. This collaborative effort has brought together Community Housing Solutions, Greensboro Housing Coalition, Housing Consultants Group, Partnership Homes, The Servant Center, Tiny Houses and Habitat Greensboro to form the nucleus of the Greensboro Housing Hub. As discussions progressed, ideas on furthering collaboration, partnerships and shared commonality have sprung up creating a whirlwind of excitement around this project. The Greensboro Housing Hub will be located in the Triton Building on Summit Avenue and is slated to open in early Fall 2017.
