PROGRAMME The NLA NextGen programme supports and promotes emerging talent from across the built environment, providing opportunities for professional networking and the lively exchange of ideas, with the ambition of championing the professional development of the built environment s future leaders. Taking place at the offices of NextGen Programme Champion, Gardiner & Theobald, this speed mentoring evening brings together the built environment s next generation of talent with more established professionals for a night of encouragement and inspiration, creating an opportunity to discuss a particular challenge or seek career advice. MENTORS Paula Carney Director, Planning, WYG Kevin Arnold Partner & Board Member, Gardiner & Theobald Kevin has worked on commercial office development, retail and residential projects since 1988 for various business park developments, city centre major projects and urban regeneration campuses for developers, multi-national corporates and private clients both in the UK and Europe. He is known for his commercial acumen which benefits clients in procurement strategy solutions, value engineering facilitation and negotiating successful outcomes. @gt_llp Susie Barson Historic Places Investigation Team South Manager, Historic England Garry Bateman Head of Technical Sales and Support, Forbo Flooring With over 37 years experience in various roles within the flooring industry, Garry has a wide knowledge of resilient and textile flooring coverings as well as floor preparation and cleaning. He is currently President of the Contract Flooring Association and sits on the British Standard textile flooring committee. @ForboFlooringUK John Boxall Partner, Jackson Coles Paula has 25 years of private sector planning consultancy experience, working on schemes predominately in London and the south of England. Over the last decade, she has particularly been involved in project management of large scale major regeneration schemes and managing large consultancy teams. She has significant experience working with private sector clients to establish effective working relationships with public sector authorities and key stakeholders. Paula also continues to work on smaller scale projects, across London and the south east, for a wide variety of clients. @wyggroup Nigel Clark Technical Director, Hilson Moran Elizabeth Crawford Project Director, Cartwright Pickard Elizabeth joined Cartwright Pickard over a decade ago and has worked across all sectors, progressing to the role of Project Director. She specialises in providing leadership on refurbishment and listed building projects or those in particularly sensitive or challenging contexts. Elizabeth has completed the RIBA Conservation & Advanced Conservation courses, is a qualified Landscape Architect and continues to promote the importance of public realm for health and wellbeing as a successful part of any project. @CartPickArch Historic England is the government s advisor on the historic environment, covering planning, listing and research. Susie is on the research side, which investigates the historical development and significance of buildings, building types, complex sites and areas in order to enable others to make informed decisions about change in the built environment. Historic area assessment, tall buildings and strategic views, the future of civic buildings such as public libraries are her particular interest- the interface between the past and the future architectural scene. @HistoricEngland John s career with Jackson Coles started in 1995 and he was made Partner in 2002, originally Chartered in Quantity Surveying, he is also leads in Project Management. With over 35 years experience in the industry, John has advised diverse clients from Derwent to Charles Saatchi on their development ambitions. @jdboxall @jacksoncoles Nigel has been involved in the design and construction of buildings for over 40 years. He has been responsible for major schemes for both developers and end users, including some of the most iconic tall buildings across the UK. He has also been involved with developing ground breaking engineering concepts for the Stadia to be used for the Qatar 2022 World Cup and is an advocate for how advanced software tools can help inform the design process and for BIM to revolutionise the way buildings are designed, constructed and managed. @HilsonMoran

MENTORS Jonathan Drage Senior Associate, Met Workshop Brian Goldsmith London Managing Principal, Elementa Katerina Karaga Urban Designer, Farrells Jonathan Martin Director of Investment and Delivery, LB Waltham Forest Jonathan is responsible for technical and QA aspects of the practice and sits on the office design review panel. Since joining in 2015 Jonathan has delivered Mapleton Crescent, a 23 million 27 storey 89 home steel-framed modular tower in Wandsworth. He is now onsite with Addiscombe Grove for Pocket Living, a 32 million 21 storey 153 home steel-framed modular tower in Croydon. He also leads the project to replace Robin Hood Gardens for Swan Housing comprising 268 homes in 4 buildings, landscape and basement car park in collaboration with Haworth Tompkins Architects. @Met_Work Having 30 years in the construction industry, Brian oversees operations of over 40 engineers with a motivation for sustainable design and development for continuous training. Brian has led projects for prestigious clients in various business sectors including Financial, Media, Legal and Insurance. @elementa_uk Kimberley Grieveson Director, GVA Katerina is an Urban Designer and qualified architect and town planner with more than 10 years of international work experience. An ex-urban Designer for TFL, she is currently working as an Associate at Farrells - global leaders in urban thinking. In her current role, she is leading on large scale masterplans, such as Earl s Court, Gatwick Airport Masterplan and the London Resort. Claire Haywood Head of Retail, Sheppard Robson Jonathan is a Chartered Surveyor and has been involved in regeneration and development roles for over 20 years. His current role focusses on Strategic Regeneration, Business Growth, Employment, Skills and Inward Investment targeting improving the economic prosperity of the borough. @wfcouncil Mary Rose Griffiths Partner, Board Member Gardiner & Theobald Adam Glover Partner & Board Member, Gardiner & Theobald Adam heads up G&T s Project Management division and leads teams acting for developers, tenants, owner occupiers and funding institutions. He has particular expertise in managing large, complex projects and his experience includes a five-year secondment to a major US Investment Bank and a period seconded to a UK Developer. @gt_llp Kim is a Director within the Planning, Development and Regeneration team at GVA. She has over 10 years experience in advising public and private sector clients on complex development agreements and has a particular focus on large scale estate renewal projects. She is passionate about helping public and private sector clients unlock housing potential across their assets. @GVAViews Claire is head of retail and has an established track record of delivering large scale retail, residential and workplace projects, with considerable experience of working in conservation areas and inner-city brownfield sites.since 2004 she has been a RIBA Part 3 Examiner at the Bartlett School of Architecture UCL and also teaches on the Professional Practice Course at The Royal College of Art. Mary Rose is a highly experienced development monitoring specialist, having advised on projects ranging in size from less than 1 million to over 1 billion, across a wide range of sectors including residential, office, retail, hotel, sport, leisure, healthcare and infrastructure. She also championed the first Women s Development Programme. @gt_llp

MENTORS Tim Pitman Director, Pitman Tozer Architects Antoinette Nassopoulos Erickson Partner, Foster + Partners Clare Murray Head of Sustainability, Levitt Bernstein As Head of Sustainability at Levitt Bernstein Clare champions for new buildings to be sustainably designed using a holistic approach. She oversees all projects from concept through to implementation and post-occupancy, including the development of the practice s sustainability policy and approach. Clare has contributed to a range of research work, publications, and design review panels campaigning for sustainability to be included through design. @ClarehMurray @levittbernstein Antoinette, is a Senior Partner at Foster and Partners, is a registered architect and urban designer with over 30 years experience across a wide range of projects from masterplans to interiors; bringing this unique experience working with complex client organisations, in the brief development, design and delivery of large scale strategic plans as well as small scale projects. She regularly contributes to international conferences and government advisory forums on Aviation. She is the Chair of the Women s Group and Diversity Group Champion for Foster and Partners. @FosterPartners Riette Oosthuizen Urban Planning Partner, HTA Design LLP James Pargeter Senior Director, Projects Greystar James is a Senior Director in the Development team at Greystar, where he is focused on the delivery of new Build to Rent communities and raising awareness about how this can help to address the UK s housing crisis. He also leads Greystar s engagement with policymakers and other key stakeholders. @jamespargeter James Pellatt Director of Workplace & Innovation, Great Portland Estates Tim is actively involved in the design and delivery of all projects across the studio. He is also the Financial Director, a role that provides him with an overview of every project and ensures clients of intelligent, cost-effective design. Tim works closely with design teams to develop robust briefs that result in projects that are successfully delivered on time and on budget. He is particularly interested in the complexity of urban architecture and how schemes engage with the city s interplay of streets, spaces and connections. Tim is a member of the Haringey Design Review Panel. @PitmanTozer Bill Price Director of Strategic Growth, WSP Dr Riëtte is Urban Planning Partner at HTA Design LLP, an award winning design practice specialising in residential and mixed use development of all scales. She has 22 years of experience as an urban planning consultant, academic and researcher in South Africa and the UK with interests in planning with communities, tackling social exclusion exacerbated through the built environment and innovative ways of solving the housing crisis. She co-directs HTA s research projects, and leads on amongst others #Supurbia, the practice s thinking on suburban intensification through careful design coding measures. @rietteoos After qualifying as a Building Surveyor, James worked in Project Management and working as a client delivering over 15 million sq ft of office space in the last 20 years. As Director of Workplace and Innovation he now studies technology and design to see how it can benefit the development of the workplace. @jamespellatt @GPE_plc Bill has worked on the Shard at London Bridge from the earliest stages of design development to completion in 2015. Currently Bill is leading a range of air rights and overbuild solutions in London and internationally. Bill developed the engineering and transport strategy for the Paddington Cube and is also Project Director for the new Chelsea FC stadium which requires 500m of rail decking. @BillPrice22

MENTORS Anna Reiter Director, Tyrens Samatha Wait Director of Business Development, Swan Russell Whitehead Director, Robert Bird Anna leads Tyréns UK s masterplanning, urban design and landscape practice and is acting managing director of the business. Anna has 16 years experience in the management, structuring and delivery of high profile multidisciplinary urban development and community regeneration projects across Europe, Americas, the Middle East and Asia, and also leads the firm s Smart Cities Strategy Group. Her experience includes all aspects of planning, landscape, transport, leisure, tourism, waterfronts, tech hubs, aviation-linked development, special-use districts and high KPI sustainable net zero carbon strategies. @TyrensUK Kate Sandle Associate, Dexter Moren Associates A qualified architect for 20 years, Kate focuses on the construction end of the profession, delivering complex hotel and mixed-use schemes from production drawing stages through to site delivery and completion including The Ampersand Hotel in Kensington and several listed buildings. She is currently overseeing the design of a boutique Hotel in Westminster and the interior fit out of a 4-star hotel as part of the Battersea Power Station development. Dominic Spray Design Director, Hadley Property Group Dominic is an experienced, chartered architect who has delivered a wide range of schemes through all design stages, both in the UK and internationally. With an expert understanding of media and presentation in 2D and 3D, BIM systems and modular design, he has worked within the property and architectural sector for over 25 years, during which he has been involved with a large number of London s leading residential and mixed-use developers. The level of sophistication which is now required in large-scale residential development has naturally resulted in Hadley working with both established and emerging talented UK designers and engineers, and Dominic s innovation remit means that he is constantly searching for opportunities to expand and innovate the Hadley development process. @HadleyProperty Sam leads on business development and strategic communications for the Swan Group. Sam has extensive knowledge of the sector having worked as a commercial property solicitor in the city and at The Guinness Partnership. Sam explores new opportunities and fosters partnership working, while ensuring that Swan considers the wider interests of all their stakeholders. @SwanHousing Chris Welch Partner, Board Member Gardiner & Theobald Chris sits on the main management board and is responsible for one of the largest cost management teams. He has a reputation for providing clear and accurate advice and for delivering buildings to budget and programme whilst maximising value for money. Chris portfolio covers mixed-use master planning of major green and brownfield sites, education, health and sports facilities across the world. @gt_llp Russell is a Director at Robert Bird Group in London, leading teams of structural, civil and geotechnical engineers in the delivery of mixeduse, commercial, residential and retail projects. Russell is a chartered structural engineer with particular experience in the design and delivery of deep basements and tall buildings in London. Tom Williamson Senior Development Manager, Peabody Tom is a Chartered Surveyor with more than seven years experience. He is currently a Senior Development Manager at Peabody, where he has project managed a range of schemes over the last three years. He is now leading on the major regeneration of Peabody s St John s Hill Estate in Battersea. @PeabodyLDN
