The HOOT: 220 S Student Newsletter The HOOT is a newsletter that you, as a tenant at 220, will receive to your Rowan email. Policy and Procedures Staff & Security: Between 8am-8pm the concierge staff is available at the front desk and between 8pm-8am overnight security is available. It is very important to us at 220 that all of our tenants feel safe at all times. The Front Desk s number is provided on page 2 of this book. It is suggested that all tenants add this number to their phone in case of an emergency. **Any emergencies that require immediate medical attention, please contact 911** Fire Safety: The building is outfitted with an advanced fire safety system to provide comfort and safety. The system will detect smoke and the concierge staff/security will be alerted and they will check to make sure there are no life/safety issues. If there are life/safety emergencies or the thermal senses are triggered, the alarm will sound, the building will be evacuated, and the Glassboro Fire Department will respond. All must evacuate to the designated meeting location and remain outside until the building has been deemed safe by the fire department. The 220 staff will communicate this information with all residents. Trash & Recycling/Laundry: There are designated trash/ recycling and laundry rooms on each floor. Students are to place their garbage and recycling in these rooms for the porter to properly dispose. All items MUST be bagged, no loose items should be thrown in the bins. Laundry rooms are also designated on each of the floors. Laundry is $1.50 to wash and $1.00 to dry. Students are able to exchange money for quarters at the front desk. Locked Out or Lost Key/ FOB: Lost or misplaced keys and FOB must be replaced. If a key/fob is lost, let management know immediately. Fees for these items are listed below: Keys: $25 FOB: $75 If a student were to lock themselves out of their room or apartment, they are to stop by the front desk for assistance. Room Change Request: If at any time during the year a student decides that they would like to change their room, they must go through Rowan University s Housing. The process is listed below: (1) Log on to www.rowan.edu/selfservice (2) Click on MyHousing (3) Hover over Room Selection (4) Click Request a Room Change (5) Put in the hall(s) or hall/room you are interested in moving to. If you are submitting a room swap request, please indicate the name of the person you are wishing to swap with as well as the building and room information for that individual. (6) In detail, outline your reason for your request (7) Click Submit Room Change Request Non-Smoking Policy: 220 Rowan Blvd, the suite and the student units are smoke free. Student and guests shall not, at any time, light, use or smoke cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, cigars, pipes or other tobacco products anywhere in or about 220 Rowan Blvd, including, without limitation, the building, suite, student unit, parking areas, entrances, passages, walkways, lobbies, courts, elevators, vestibules, stairways, corridors and halls. This non-smoking policy will be strictly enforced and any violation of this nonsmoking policy may lead to the termination of your Rowan University Student Housing License Agreement. Students must understand, acknowledge and accept this non-smoking policy. 4
Quiet Hours: 220 adopts the University Housing quiet hours policy, which is listed below: Sunday Thursday: 10pm-8am Friday Saturday: 12am-10am Noise Violation: To ensure that 220 is a pleasant experience for everyone, residents should be mindful of their neighbors. If at any point a neighbor or staff member feels as though a room or resident is being excessively loud, a noise violation is taken into action. Since 220 is an off-campus building, we have adopted Glassboro s Ordinance 354-22 Creation of loud and unreasonable noise. For more information on this please visit Glassboroonline.com Beginning October 21 st, 2016, any apartment that receives 3 or more visits from management or security within a semester will receive a $100.00 fine to be split amongst all roommates. If continual complaints are received, further steps will be taken including but not limited to a meeting with Nexus Properties Management. Visitors Policy: All visitors to the building are required to be escorted by a 220 resident at all times. We have adopted Rowan University s Policy regarding visitors. Please visit Rowan s website at http://www.rowan.edu/studentaffairs/reslife/documents/rl_handbook.pdf to find this information. Residents having concerns regarding the visitation policy (i.e. violations, procedures, enforcement, etc.) should contact the concierge staff/ security. Nexus reserves the right to suspend guest privileges as well as terminate a student s residential status when it is in the best interest of the 220 Rowan Blvd community. Visitors MUST park in the Rowan Blvd Parking Garage. Garage Prices: 0-2hrs: FREE 2-3hrs: $3 3-4hrs: $4 4-5hrs: $5 5hrs or more: $7 Alcohol & Drug Policy: The Alcohol Policy abides by the New Jersey State Law, which states; A person must be 21 years of age or older to legally purchase or consume any alcoholic beverage on a licensed premises. There is absolutely no exception to this. (N.J.S.A. 9:17B-1). If anyone in the apartment is under 21 years old (including guests) it is then classified as a dry apartment in which no alcohol is permitted. NO kegs are permitted on the building s property. The building has a zero tolerance for drugs. If any student is found in violation of the alcohol and or drug policies, Glassboro Police will be notified. 5
Mailroom: The mailroom is located on the first floor across from the student elevators. When sending and receiving packages, residents are to use the building s address followed by the resident s apartment number. Example: Jane Doe 220 Rowan Boulevard Apt. 123 Glassboro, NJ 08028 When a package arrives for the resident, the resident will be notified by email when it is ready for pick up. The packages will be held safely in the mailroom storage until the resident arrives. Packages are unable to be picked up by someone other than the receiving party. The times at which a resident can pick up their package is 8am-8pm and will require an ID for pick up. 220 is unable to send packages. Parking in the back lot of 220 is for patients and permit holders only. Any parker who is not approved for the back lot is subjected to the $10.00 exit charge, receiving a vehicle boot, and additional fines. All students and their guests must park in the garage. In order to alleviate issues related to entering the parking garage, SALTOS cards should remain within the vehicle. Maintenance Requests: If any damages occur throughout staying at 220 Rowan Blvd, residents can go online to 220RowanBlvd.com/maintenance-request. After submitting a form, maintenance will respond in 2-3 business days. In an emergency (electrical or water leaks), call the front desk phone for help. When maintenance is responding to your request, all residents in the apartment will be notified via text. Maintenance is then able to enter the apartment to assess the issue. When submitting a maintenance request, once notified, the residents are not required to be present for maintenance to enter. Maintenance Hours: 7:30am-8:00pm *One submission request must be made per issue* Garbage Disposal: The most important rule of thumb: Do not put ANYTHING in the garbage disposal that is not biodegradable food. Room Cleaning Tips & Tricks: We ask that you do NOT use the following items: - Windex (on surfaces other than windows) - Pledge - Clorox (wipes) - Any other products that are very strong Items that are safe to use: - A wet (damp) washcloth or paper towel with Dawn for cleaning appliances and furniture surfaces. Using the Dishwasher: - Make sure all products are dishwasher safe before placing them in the dishwasher. - Make sure all dishes are properly aligned in the dishwasher to avoid damage. - Overloading the soap dispenser will damage the machine. Only use the amount required which is listed on the machine. Please do NOT fill the soap dispenser with detergents or soaps that are not dishwasher safe. 7
Room Damages/ RCR: All residents are required to participate in signing off on the RCR. 220 Rowan Blvd staff will document the RCR (Room Condition Report) with any damages that may have occurred prior to move in. This process will be repeated after spring semester check-out. Each resident living in the suite must sign off on the RCR. Once all of the roommates have agreed to and signed the RCR, it must be turned into management by the required deadline. Damages in the designated common areas are the responsibility of all students in the unit. Upon move out, all items/belonging must be removed and areas must be move in ready to avoid deductions from your security deposit. Verizon Information 220 provides each apartment with the basic bulk package. All additional items will be the responsibility of the apartment through their billing account. FAQ s-frequently Asked Questions Can we bring pets? - No animals or pets of any type are permitted in the building, with the exception of approved service animals. Trash & Recycling: - There are designated receptacle rooms on each floor. All items must be in a tied bag and placed in the receptacles for maintenance to properly dispose of. These rooms are located on the south side of the building (5 th floor room is on the North side, closest to the University). What NOT to Bring: - Weapons of any kind - Mini fridges - String lights - Neon signs - Octopus lamps - Electric/space heaters - Candles - Extension Cords - Halogen lamps - Hover Boards - Air fresheners that mist/spray **Bikes are not permitted in the building unless they are being stored in the bike storage room or on the outside of the building** Parking in the Back Lot: Parking in the back lot is for patients and permit holders only.
