WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES DEPARTMENT OF SPECIAL COLLECTIONS Tihen Notes Subject Search, p. 1 Dr. Edward N. Tihen (1924-1991) was an avid reader and researcher of Wichita newspapers. His notes from Wichita newspapers -- the Tihen Notes, as we call them -- provide an excellent starting point for further research. They present brief synopses of newspaper articles, identify the newspaper -- Eagle, Beacon or Eagle-Beacon -- in which the stories first appeared, and give exact references to the s on which the articles are found. Microfilmed copies of these newspapers are available at the Wichita State University Libraries, the Wichita Public Library, or by interlibrary loan from the Kansas State Historical Society. Subject(s): Dockum Saturday, October 12, 1901 5. C. L. Davidson today purchased the three story brick block at 128 North Main for $16,000. It is 25 by 110 feet and the first floor is occupied by the Dockum and Higginson drug store. The property formerly belonged to Mrs. Mary Carpenter, who now resides in New York. Friday, January 9, 1903 5. On January 15, Harry Dockum and H. D. Higginson will dissolve their partnership of the past three years and each will conduct his drug store separately, Mr. Dockum at 128 North Main and Mr. Higginson at 248 North Main. Tuesday, July 24, 1906 6. Harry Dockum has bought back his old drug store at 128 North Main and will take charge again tomorrow. He had sold it about eighteen months ago to Jack Shields and Frank Redfield because of poor health, but this has since improved. Saturday, July 29, 1911 6. Superintendent Morrison of Wichita Railroad and Light company yesterday announced the opening of sub-agencies for sale of street car tickets at Allen s drug store, Hillside and Douglas, and at the Stock Yards Exchange building. Sub-agencies have previously been located at Dockum s drug store, Innes and the Boston Store. Thursday, October 30, 1913

Building at 400 East Douglas, corner of Douglas and Topeka, is being remodeled for the new Dockum and Tilford drug store. Sunday, February 22, 1914 8. The new Dockum-Tilford drug store at 400 East Douglas, corner of Douglas and Topeka, will be opened next Wednesday. Tuesday, February 24, 1914 3. The new Dockum-Tilford drug store at 400 East Douglas is to be opened tomorrow. Article with report February 25, 9. Details. Thursday, February 26, 1914 5. Means Brothers, druggists, will sell their drug store at Lawrence and Douglas avenues today to J. Floyd Tilford and John K. Klopfstein, pharmacists; for about $15,000. The new firm will be known as the Tilford Drug company. Mr. Tilford about one year ago formed a partnership with Harry Dockum, the firm being the Dockum-Tilford Drug company, 400 East Douglas; he sold his half interest to Mr. Dockum a week ago. The Shirk, Bretch and Gossard company yesterday purchased the northeast corner of Hillside and Douglas fronting 75 feet on Douglas and 144 feet on Hillside from Edith Judy Carter of Neodesha for a reported $30,000. She is the wife of E. E. Carter, Frisco superintendent at Neodesha, and obtained the property 15 years ago, when it was valued at $7000.
