SPOKANE HOUSING AUTHORITY Providing Housing Improving Lives 40 Years of Serving Our Communities
SHA s Beginnings December 13, 1971 The Housing Authority of the City of Spokane was created by resolution of the City Council and became an independent political subdivision of the State of Washington.
SHA s First Board of Commissioners The Spokesman Review s front page article Housing Panel Selected on March 15, 1972 announced the members of the first Spokane Housing Authority Board of Commissioners. Mayor Rodgers was quoted saying, Spokane s most immediate housing problems are the rehabilitation of building units below minimum standards and improved housing for the elderly. We must begin to solve these problems immediately, and I am confident this new Housing Authority voted into existence by the City Council will do the job.
