Presidents Report President Clive is on holiday, and Barry Freeman is in Vanuatu, so no report this week. Night Report 28 APRIL, 2014 A special Anzac Night including partners, started off with Sergeant Jim giving NO 5 minute warning bell!! Barry Freeman was filling in as President during President Clive s absence. President Barry greeted all guests & fellows and asked if everyone was happy to use the term fellows meaning the Rotarians in the Club. One of the special guests was Vilde s father ASBJORN and her girlfriend, MASSI, who had just been in India on exchange. Boy did they look alike. Vilde then gave a brief outline of her Safari, which she totally enjoyed, with the highlights of Alice Springs, she found Uluru very spiritual, had a swim in the natural thermal pools. She then visited Darwin and the flying Doctors, and enjoyed Cairns and the Barrier Reef. She is now staying with the Fergusons. Robyn Crosweller, President of Inner Wheel, was a guest speaker, visiting our Club to see a few bears and other goodies to raise money for the National Coin for Cord which is about using the organ in women to nourish their babies where the core blood is collected and stored for use in childhood Leukaemia. In the Volume 27 Issue 37 Page 2 of 8 Monday 05 May 2014
time of the Inner Wheel fundraising they have achieved $1,952,324.96 FANTASTIC ACHIEVEMENT!! They want to reach $2m, and will be at the Cherrybrook Shopping Village on the 2 nd May. Well done Inner Wheel. There was a very special THANK YOU to Barry Lambert for an excellent result, over $1600.00 from the recent sausage sizzle. And again a big thank your for all his hard work and organisation, it does not go unnoticed and is greatly appreciated by everyone. Rob Hamer will be keeping the logistics side of the Speaker Programme but for 2015 Barry wish to have a close hand on the programme, suggesting maybe a speaker from the Red Balloon Day. There was a form on each table to be completed by member to give suggestions for guest speakers. President Barry inducted Teresa. Into the Club and actually had all the name badges and a current Rotary Downunder magazine on hand for Teresa and her husband Ian. We welcome Teresa and Ian into the West Pennant Hills & Cherrybrook Rotary Club. Teresa s response was that she is very happy to be a Rotarian again and looking forward to working within the community again. Bernard and wife Roma also received their badges. Rob Hamer introduced Lieutenant Colonel John Prichard as the ANZAC special guest speaker. He did is 1 st tour as Army Corp, was in first aid, went to Portsea for officer training, 1968 went into engineering and there was a Field Squadron with the Tunnel Rats in Vietnam. The 100 th anniversary of the Anzac s is in 2015 and there is a big build up for this special event, there is also a number of significant anniversaries in the coming years up to 2018. In the 8 month period of the young men arriving at Anzac Cove, Turkey over 50,000 Australian and New Zealanders lost their lives. It is good to see so many people this year, especially the young paying their respects on Anzac Day. We are not trying to glorify war, but to show respect to the men and women who still serve to this day in our armed forces throughout the world. It was good to see the younger servicemen and the Vietnam patrons leading this years march. It was a short and great speech. E34 raffle won by Stan Baseley Diamond Drill (a horse) made our Sergeant Jim loose his major win at the races, so as diamond drills are used by engineers, he made all the engineers in the club pay a fine. Cross fine by David Turnbull because he was disappointed not watching movie Tora, Tora, Tora, or something like that on Anzac day. 2 heads won the head & tails Barry Lambert left bundles of 50 pamphlets for distributing within your neighbourhood regarding bowel cancer.
