Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Location: Township 17 South Range 6 West Section 32 N 33 31 30.70 or 33.525194 W 87 11 43.20 or -87.195332 Northwest of Toadvine. Church address: off of Shortown Branch Road, Bessemer, AL 35023 Directions: Go approximately 2 miles west on Taylors Ferry Road from the intersection of Toadvine Road and Taylors Ferry Road. Turn left onto Belchers Ferry Road and go 2/10 of a mile. Turn left onto Shortown Branch Road and go 7/10 of a mile. Turn left onto the church road. Church and cemetery are at the end of the 1/10 of a mile road. Miscellaneous Information: Church organized in (date unknown). a.k.a. Taylors Ferry Cemetery and Short Town Baptist Church Cemetery (Contributed by Shirley Fields Parsons - sfpshirley@aol.com) This cemetery is located on land first homesteaded by William B. Y. Short. He homesteaded the northwest quarter of section 32, township 17 south, range 6 west (164+ acres) on December 10, 1885. The whereabouts of his or his wife s (Rebecca Emaline Davis) grave is not known but it is believed that they are located near the center of the cemetery, among the many with river rock stones. Further research will be done to find out the exact time he lost, sold, or deeded this land to Mary Evaline Gilmore Perolio. She sold one acre on April 12, 1928 to the Short Town Church and Cemetery for $1. Many graves were in this cemetery before a deed was ever given or before the church was organized. Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church was the third church to come into being in the Short Town community; first being the Dug Hill Methodist (located on the Glover/Hudson property). The second was the Short Town Baptist (destroyed by tornado in 1914) and last was Pleasant Hill Missionary, organized 1928 and finally constituted on September 3, 1930. By the way, the Short Town Baptist Church was not located at the Short Town Cemetery; it was located about half way between the two cemeteries.
