Presented By: Cheryl Harmsworth and Justin Pockar City of Calgary Presentation Description: Cheryl Harmsworth (Engineering & Energy Services Division) will provide an overview of The City of Calgary s Sustainable Building Policy and examples of projects influenced by the Policy as well as present discussion points relating to the role of specifications in successful achievement of Policy compliance and triple bottom line objectives. Justin Pockar (Energy & Environment Coordinator, City of Calgary s Development & Building Approvals business unit) will provide an overview of the approvals process and how it relates to sustainable design, past and future incentives related to the above, and a policy and legislative background to sustainable design and how it relates to project delivery from private industry. Some brief examples of successes and lessons learned will be provided. Presentation Sponsor: Speakers Bio: Cheryl A. Harmsworth, B.Sc. (Mechanical Engineering), P.Eng., M.E.Des., LEED AP BD+C An employee of The City of Calgary, Cheryl Harmsworth has worked in the Engineering & Energy Services division since 2008. In her role as the Senior Sustainable Infrastructure Engineer she is responsible for managing the corporate Sustainable Building Policy and the Sustainable Buildings Partnership Program. Cheryl is a graduate of Queen s University, Bachelor of Science (Mechanical Engineering), and the University of Calgary, Master of Environmental Design (Sustainable Building and Community Design). A former director on the board of the Canada Green Building Council, Cheryl is an active member of the Alberta Chapter of the CaGBC. Justin Pockar, B.Sc. (physics), M.Arch., LEED AP Justin Pockar has been employed within the City of Calgary s Development & Building Approvals business unit since 2006. In the role of Energy & Environment Coordinator, responsibilities include project review (internal and external to the City), policy creation and review, and approvals process guidance and education as it pertains to sustainable development. Prior to joining the City, justin was employed in private consulting, specializing in sustainable projects, and delivering several successful LEED projects both inside and outside of Alberta. Current projects include heading the Sustainable Development Program in Planning, Development & Assessment, and working with the National Research Council as steering committee member for the National Energy Code for Buildings and co-author of the National Energy Code for Housing and Small Buildings. He is also sits on the Board of the CaGBC Alberta Chapter 3

Conference 2012 Conference 2012 will be held in Ottawa, from May 23-27, 2012. Ottawa is a great city, so make sure you register early. The registration form is on the association website. The Conference 2013 Committee would like to encourage as many Calgary Chapter members as possible to attend Conference 2012 to act as Calgary Chapter Ambassadors and encourage attendance to Conference 2013 in Calgary.
