Breathing new life into the Burwood community A collaboration of expertise unveils a proposed concept plan representing Australand s exciting vision to rehabilitate and regenerate the former Burwood East Brickworks site. By providing new infrastructure and amenity to service the broader Burwood community this will essentially breathe new life into the neighbourhood. This will result in a new mixed-use local centre, retail and social hub that allows space for social interaction and engagement. Fostering a strong and diverse local community, the centre is supported through a diverse mix of housing for around 2,000 new residents, with a variety of demographic and household types catered for. Australand is committed to achieving a 5 star Green Star Communities certification. Independently audited by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) Australand s vision is to deliver a community that embodies the principles of sustainable development, respecting ecological limits and natural resource constraints while encouraging prosperity and social well-being. Artist s Impression Village Green (Neighbourhood open space) Burwood East will offer its residents an enviable urban lifestyle Rehabilitation and regeneration of local long term undeveloped site; Diverse mix of housing to cater for a variety household types; Retail and social hub fostering social interaction and engagement; Usable high value open spaces for whole community; Cycle connections and pedestrian prioritisation encouraging healthy lifestyles; Sensitive interfaces and transitions with compatible development forms and scales. New infrastructure and amenities that services the broader community; 10,500m 2 of retail with food and beverage activating a civic plaza; Between 850 and 950 homes with a mix of apartments, terrace housing and detached and semi-detached homes; Low rise apartments concentrated around the retail hub with heights of 5 storeys plus carparking; Streamlining the Planning Scheme Amendment process The purpose of the community consultation process is to gather feedback on the overall masterplan and to support the Planning Scheme Amendment, which is necessary to implement the correct planning controls for this important urban regeneration project. The Australand masterplan will reduce the intensity of development from the current approved development plan downscaling heights of buildings and traffic. Each subsequent stage thereafter will require separate planning permits from Council.
