It was bought by the National Trust in 2007 and has since undergone major restoration. It is surrounded by extensive gardens. The House is arranged as follows: Ground Floor: Grand Entrance Hall, Kitchen/ Breakfast room, Dining room, Utility room, Rear Lobby, Double Bedroom and Shower room. Arrival & Parking Facilities Godolphin House is on the Godolphin estate which is open to the public and therefore fairly well signposted with the Brown tourist road signs. Detailed directions are sent to guests shortly before their visit. Only on arrival and departure guests, if they want, can enter the estate via the main road house gate and drive up to the front of the house (please watch out for pedestrians). Vehicles can be parked on the turning circle whilst being unloaded or loaded. On completion of luggage transferral vehicles must then be taken to the standard guest parking area reached via the public entrance. Page 2 of 30
The standard guest car parking area, to be used during the stay, is reached by entering via the public entrance and continuing past the public car parks. Follow the sign, just before the reception building, for Deliveries and Office off to the right. Keep on this track as it bends to the left, through the staff parking area until finally, passing through the opening in the high stone wall, and entering the guest parking area at the rear of the house. Getting in (and out) of the cottage Page 4 of 30
From the unloading area, on initial arriving, enter the courtyard via the central arched doors. From the standard guest parking area walk through the grey solid gates, down into the garden and enter the courtyard via the rear arched doors. The combination key safe for the front door is to the side of the Plant door in the far corner of the Loggia the actual front door is in the other corner. There is an outside light but it is recommended to bring a torch to set the correct lock combination on arrival. Keys to be returned to safe on final departure. Getting around the cottage Ground floor: Front door opens into cloak area leading to grand entrance hall with one door off and a main stairway to first floor. Door from entrance hall opens into inner hallway with four doors off. Door to shower/toilet room, door to double bedroom, door to dining room and door to rear lobby. From dining room door off to kitchen and from rear lobby doors off to inner lobby and rear entrance. Kitchen has door off to garden via small lobby. Kitchen and inner lobby both have doors off to rear stairwell which has a door off to utility room. Page 5 of 30
First floor: Grand, straight, stairway up from hall to large landing with four doors off to Saloon, small connecting lobby, bathroom and East a double bedroom. The bathroom and East bedroom are also connected internally. The saloon has door onto Old stairway landing which has three doors off, one to a shower room, one to Godolphin a double bedroom and one into Withdrawing a double bedroom. The small connecting lobby has door off into Connecting a double bedroom which has a door off to an inner lobby. The inner lobby has door into Sitting room which has a door off to rear stairway landing. Rear landing has doors off to a bathroom and a twin bedroom. Page 6 of 30
