Geneva Campus Accommodation + Logistics Contract
Dear Student, Please carefully read the points below concerning the general conditions of your stay in Geneva. Please return this contract to us with your signature immediately (in person, by post or scanned by email) after receipt. Arrival Very Important: Regarding your arrival and any accommodation needs, please contact our accommodation officer on accommodation@gbsge.com or by phone on +41 22 906 94 94. Kindly arrange to be contactable via cellular phone on arrival. Please inform us of your cellular phone number by email in advance. Students who have applied for accommodation must inform the housing department (by phone +41 22 906 94 94) or by email at accommodation@gbsge. com a minimum of 2 weeks prior to your arrival. If this is done, then students can be collected at the airport and taken to your accommodation. Our airport pick-up service is free. Failure to inform the housing department in advance may result in the student having to pay for additional hotel costs and/or having to find lodgings on their own. Try to schedule your arrival in Geneva during working days/hours Monday - Friday, from 08:00-18:00 (Do not arrive on weekends / Geneva public holidays) Please plan to arrive at the beginning of the registration week or at least a minimum of one week before the beginning of semester. You should bring your admission letter for registration, preferably on a weekday to facilitate registration. Apartment When applying for accommodation, you have the following options (depending on availability) 1. Shared room in an apartment from CHF 700/month 2. Single occupancy in common lodgings from CHF 900/mnth 3. Studio (not shared with other individuals) from CHF 1 300/month Some utensils are provided in the kitchen, as well as a cooker and a refrigerator. Bed, bedding, a pillow and a blanket are provided by the school, upon arrival. Standard equipment includes a desk, chair, table lamp, and a wardrobe per person. Please bring any special material, if required. GBS apartments will be available on a firstcome, first-served basis. It should be made clear that the maximum rental period is 6 months from the start of the tenancy beyond which point, the student(s) must move to alternative accommodation. The right to stay beyond the initial 6 months is left solely at the discretion of the GBS management board. Please note that the sharing of an apartment is a temporary arrangement only possible during your studies at the school. You are not authorized to let any other person live in the apartment, apart from those officially registered with the school.
Accommodating other people, without the consent of the school, is strictly forbidden. Any violation of this rule will lead to sanctions such as immediate expulsion from the apartment and/or the school. Rent Payment Every student requiring accommodation has to pay rent for a period of 3 months (non-renewable) before his/her arrival in Switzerland. Students are assigned lodging depending on availability. Under normal circumstances, an apartment can only be reserved when an admission letter has be issued following the final payment. The accommodation rent is calculated per calendar month from the 1st - 30th which means irrespective of which date you arrive in Geneva you will be liable to pay the full calendar months rent. It is understood, based on the demand for student accommodation that in the event that a monthly rental payment is late, there may initially be financial penalties incurred for the student and the GBS management board will also have the right to remove the student from the apartment immediately. Refundable deposit Every student who accepts an accommodation contract must pay a CHF 1 000 security deposit which is refundable at the end of your stay in GBS accommodation. The security deposit covers any damage caused to the accommodation. It should be known that when you enter a GBS apartment, you sign a contact which covers the damage, general cleanliness and state of the apartment. In the event that you vacate and the apartment is not in the exact state as when you enetered, you will be responsible for cleaning costs and costs to replace damaged items. Coincidentally, GBS will deduct this amount from your initial deposit if you do not respect this. Personal Liability Insurance It is compulsory to have Personal Liability Insurance, otherwise known as RC Insuracne in Switzerland. The Personal Liability Insurance will cost CHF 125/per year and renewable each year. Cleaning Keeping the apartment clean is also the responsibility of the tenant(s). Controls are made on a regular basis. In case the apartment is found not to be clean and tidy, the school will automatically send a cleaner and the student(s) will have to pay for it. It is also common knowledge in Switzerland for tenants to respect their neighbor s tranquility at all times and especially after 22h00 during the weekdays and all day Sunday. Failure to acknowledge this ay result in complaints to GBS, which will lead to sanctions and possible expulsion. Kindly participate in the ecological effort of the local authorities by sorting your household rubbish. The rubbish must be packed in closed plastic bags before being placed in the containers of the building. The Apartment Key The apartment key that is handed over by the school is then the responsibility of the student, it s loss will lead to the tenant having to pay for the replacement of the keys. Making copies of the key is strictly forbidden unless explicitly requested by the Head of the housing department. Free Wi-Fi All our apartments are equipped with internet connection. Students residing in our apartments have free internet using wired or wireless in your accommodation. Login/ Connection details will be provided once you enter into the accommodation. Please do not touch/reset any internet equipment otherwise you will be responsible for repair or to pay any company services. To Vacate When you finally vacate the apartment, it is your responsibility to inform the school at least 1 month in advance and also inform OCPM (Cantonal Office for Population and Migration) of the new change of address (Forms are available at the schools reception). Your final calendar month of rent will be applied. In order for the student to be discharged of his/her responsibility as tenant, the premises must be left fully cleaner, cleared of personal belongings and all the supplied kitchenware and equipment, including bedding, restituted in a perfect state. Failure to comply with this will leade to the appropriate replacement sum begin deducted from the deposit. If any problems (damages, theft, etc.) occur, the student will be held financially responsible. Please note that your apartment contract covers the full year including the holiday periods. In the event that you officially vacate you GBS apartment (i.e end of the year, Christmas, summer holidays) you will lose your guarantee to have accommodation when you return. This will then be responsibility to find new accommodation. Your refundable deposit amount will be credited to your account once the accommodation officer gives a final report. At the end of your stay, you must return all keys to GBS and your agreement will not terminate until GBS receives it.
Electricity / Heating The local voltage is 22oV. You may either bring an adapter or buy it in Geneva. The first CHF 20.- of the electricity /heating bill per month is included within the monthly rent; any excess is passed onto the occupant(s) of the lodgings and split evenly. The GBS management decides whether this is either billed to the student or taken from the individual/joint deposit. The school cannot accept any responsibility for accidents that occur within the apartments. Unsociable behavior in schoolallocated apartments is not tolerated at any time; at the discretion of the House Department, sanctions will be applied individually, collectively or both should any such misconduct be reported and ascertained. In the event that a student does not follow the school s building s rules, GBS has the right to cancel the apartment contract with the student at any time and/or expel him/her. I have read, understood, viewed and accepted the accommodation/logistics rules outlined above and understand the consequences of my actions whilst residing in any of the GBS apartments.
