Oakdale Park Information Oakdale Park was opened by Cobb County Parks Department in the fall of 2007. It is located on Atlanta Road at the intersection of Daniel Street, which is just north of the Atlanta Road/Cumberland Parkway intersection. Oakdale Park also serves as a trailhead for the Cumberland Connector, which is an extension of the Silver Comet Trail. The park is divided into two playgrounds, one is for toddlers/beginning walkers (infant 3yr olds) and includes a swingset with bucket seats (early crawlers). The other side of the playground has more advanced playground equipment. Both sides have bench seats for the parents. Between the two sides of the playground is a restroom area. The surface of the playground is made of a soft rubber material. The toddler playground area has a partial wraparound fence with the entrance/exit open to the adjacent sidewalk area that runs through the park. The older kid playground has a full wraparound fence with one entrance/exit gate. Very little shaded area throughout the park, however a grassy area within the park area facilitates blankets for picnics or enjoyment/relaxation in the sun. The park location is conveniently located next to Ivy Walk with plenty of kids shopping and restaurants. Another favorite kid hangout, Kangazoom, is a short drive south on Atlanta Road approximately ½ mile. The traffic along Atlanta Road would seem to cause a little jitters with parental nerves, however I have found this park to be as social as any other in the Smyrna Vinings community. Silver Comet Trail Cumberland Connector = Subject property, 2235 Cooper Lake Road SILVER COMET TRAIL The Silver Comet Trail is named for the Silver Comet passenger train that used the identical route from 1947 to 1969. It begins in Smyrna, Georgia, runs west through Paulding and Polk counties, and connects with Alabama s Chief Ladiga Trail at the Georgia Alabama border. As of September 2008, the entire 61.5 miles of the Silver Comet Trail was paved and open for bicycle riding, running, walking, and skating. The Silver Comet and Chief Ladiga trails join to form one continuous 94 mile trail from Smyrna, Georgia to Anniston, Alabama. SILVER COMET CONNECTOR The Silver Comet Connector is a paved trail that connects the Highland Station shopping center to the start of the Silver Comet Trail. Highland Station is at the corner of South Cobb Drive and East West Connector, in Cobb County, GA. The Silver Comet Connector travels in front of Highland Station shopping center, heads west along the East West Connector, goes down a steep hill next to a neighborhood, and connects to the Mavell Road trailhead. The Silver Comet Connector is a little over a mile long, and has 2 lanes separated by dashed yellow lines.
