QUEENSLAND STATE ARCHITECTURE AWARDS CITATIONS

TRYP - Art Hotel Shane Denman Architects The Australian Institute of Architects Art & Architecture Prize (QLD) Graffiti art found within a derelict building inspired the concept to marshal the original renowned street artists and conceptually theme the redeveloped hotel. Salvaged original artworks along with newly commissioned pieces permeate all aspects of the fitout including lift shafts, stairways, wallpaper, basins and courtyard walls. The resultant architecture is deeply imbued by, not only the art and the gritty texture of the surrounding context, but as much by the careful curatorial role of the architects in forming such meaningful assemblage. Set design for La Boite's 'A Streetcar Named Desire' Vilma Mattila and Kevin O'Brien Architects Art & Architecture A clever contemporary set design that brought together architectural interpretation, performing artists and designers to create a dynamic stage setting. Spatial thresholds are implied through the simple use of folded ply and steel tube to provide a scaffold for the performers to enact and engage with the audience. Ringrose Residence Brian Hooper Architect Colorbond Award for Steel Architecture (QLD) A deceptively simple planning hierarchy linking three pavilions sheltered beneath a cantilevered skillion canopy. Ringrose Residence as an exemplar is simple and unadorned, raw and robust with a leanness of structure. It is an treatise in the rural steel shed vernacular utilising both primary and secondary steel framing and the larger profiled Accent 35 corrugated sheeting for both roof and wall. Deep rhythmic shadows cast from the roof and wall shading form a cool and generous threshold to the landscape while providing welcome relief from the arid topography. Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology nettletontribe Architecture Commercial Architecture Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology is a significant medical facility with a complex operational brief diligently addressed by the architects. A top-lit central void and rooftop terrace provide social spaces with experiential variety for occupants. Interactions with the urbanized setting guide both the aesthetic and planning strategies of the design. 2 P a g e

Northlakes Vet Hospital Vokes and Peters Commercial Architecture Balancing thoughtful functionality and measured moments of delight, Northlakes Vet Hospital is a well-considered environment for users and staff. The building also makes specific responses to the setting through its restrained material palette, an emphasis on human presence rather than vehicular, and the significance given to landscape elements. KDV Golf and Tennis Academy, Gold Coast Shiro Architects Pty Ltd Commercial Architecture KDV is a new multipurpose leisure facility that caters for golfers, tennis players and the local community. A slender transparent building, with an elegant entry sequence, is rigorous in its geometry and articulated spatial organisation. This building is honest in its approach and has nothing to hide. Walton Stores Aspect Architects and Project Managers with Newlands Group Commercial Architecture Creative and sensitive architectural consideration of a heritage precinct comprising five buildings has achieved a vibrant public area occupied day and night. It makes an important contribution to the fabric of the CBD and Toowoomba in general. It proves heritage and modern living can be successfully married together. 480 Queen Street BVN Beatrice Hutton Award for Commercial Architecture Modelled as a Campus Tower, 480 Queen St achieves an unconventional office tower attainment via its steel frame and hybrid campus-tower floorplate. An extensive and generous public realm offers the community and tenants memorable experiences guided by themes including linkages with nearby St John s Cathedral and topographic metaphors referencing the site s historic condition. Analogies between landscape metaphor and surrounding historic building fabric inform the materiality, scale, detail and expression of the building adding unexpected delight to Brisbane s first highrise steel building for 40 years. 3 P a g e

Elements of Byron Shane Thompson Architects Commercial Architecture A slow and subtle architectural response to a complex site has been both successful and meaningful. A deep understanding of the sensitive terrain and ecology results in the low, organic form. The individual accommodation modules are softly inserted into the landscape creating a delightful discovery of hidden luxury. Royal Hotel Roma DM2 Architecture Commercial Architecture The modern successor to a fire ravaged 1920 s hotel. This building has successfully re-interpreted the traditional outback pub vernacular through the architect s use of well-considered and understated regional qualities. A light filled, casual atmosphere permeates through this family orientated hotel, which respects its place in the community. Mt Alvernia College Anthony and La Verna Buildings m3architecture Jennifer Taylor Award for Educational Architecture An extremely poetic and porous design response that strongly reflects the Franciscan mission of inclusion and connection; one that embraces both occupants and visitors. Working within an existing campus, it seamlessly knits new buildings into old, reviving existing enclosures with crisp new skins and incorporating components of demolished remnants. The placement of garden, inspired by La Foresta, an Italian working garden close to Assisi, and its defining of all building edges is transformational to the school and overwhelmingly enriches the pedagogy. St Joseph's Nudgee College Hanly Learning Centre m3architecture Educational Architecture An extremely thoughtful design response, where the building framework is developed as a backdrop to the student occupation and activation within. The planning configuration creates a centre of activity for the school enveloped within tiered external walkways acting as viewing platforms; creating a space for students to gather. 4 P a g e

Brisbane Girls Grammar School Research Learning Centre m3architecture Educational Architecture From the streetscape frontage, inclusive of its surrounding natural and heritage context, to the internal collaborative learning environments tucked within a series of connected labyrinths, that evoke and stimulate curiosity within its occupation, this is an extremely cleaver and delightful design response within every detail of its delivery and execution. Guardian Early Learning Centre BVN Educational Architecture This project establishes a new typology for the accommodation of early learning and development within a commercial high rise in the heart of the CBD. It provides a considered mix of settings and space types that provides a variety of experiences and connects the young occupants to the urban context beyond. NCC Early Swimmers Conwell Architects Educational Architecture At its heart, is a simple structure to provide shelter for one of the essentials of Queensland life - to learn to swim. Beyond this basic requirement, the architect has created a considered and elegant structure. Internal planning allows clear visibility throughout. UQ Forgan Smith Building TC Beirne School of Law and Walter Harrison Library Refurbishment BVN Educational Architecture This winning composition of deeply hued spaces, does not fail to deliver to student s experiential expectations. A very sensitive vocabulary of settings, deriving their expression and substance from the profession which it accommodates. The experience throughout is delightful, developed through a progress of sequenced spaces and defined territories. 5 P a g e

Australian Institute of Tropical Health and Medicine (Townsville), James Cook University Jackson Architecture Educational Architecture Much is made of the dramatic mountainous landscape of Mt Stuart unexpectedly capitalised with framed near and far views throughout the facility. The clarity and legibility of the plan belies the technical complexity of this research facility and carefully controlled daylight floods deep into the plan of the laboratories. Gatton Plant Industries DM2 Architecture Educational Architecture This project converts an original UQ Gatton building into modern laboratories, learning centre and a new linking corridor. It skillfully addresses complex planning, building and technical issues in providing a cost effective facility and a new covered external courtyard adds comfort and amenity for the students. St Luke's Anglican School, Middle School Precinct McLellan Bush Architects Educational Architecture By varying the types and scale of indoor and outdoor teaching spaces, a vibrant social communal hub is created to challenge the accepted pedagogy. A ventilated double height light scoop is lined judiciously with acoustical treatment and adaptable transparent walls activate the heart with unexpected generosity and vibrancy. St Ambrose Primary School Pat Twohill Designs in association with Twohill and James Educational Architecture St Ambrose Primary School is an impressive exploration of modern learning facilities wrapped around an open, grassed central courtyard. The buildings are clever and elegant in organisation. A pure and simple material pallet results in uncluttered spaces and opportunities for the children's work to be expressed. 6 P a g e

Central Village Heritage Precinct Deicke Richards Heritage Architecture Three buildings of a former army depot, including an early drill shed, have been retained as communal and publicly accessible facilities and open space at the center of a dense redevelopment. In spite of major changes to context and ground levels, the buildings have been conserved and interpreted in a meaningful way. The Globe Brian Hooper Architect and m3architecture (architects in association) Heritage Architecture Imbued with a deep respect and preservation of the outback pub typology, The Globe is an essay in celebrating timber single skin construction. Intricate restoration of existing fabric with the embroidery of new material perspicaciously within the original frame construction has yielded a paragon for adaptive reuse in rural Queensland. Cairns Museum - The School of Arts Building Total Project Group Architects Don Roderick Award for Heritage Architecture A respectful restoration, full of humility has invigorated the School of Arts structure, the oldest public building in Cairns and delicately links the new street-front contemporary museum extension. It is carefully crafted and detailed with meticulous gestures between the old and new whilst incorporating sustainable considerations. Exploiting the opportunity of heritage to restore and reveal successive extensions as an existential lesson in the history of Cairns, the Cairns Museum and School of Arts and its newly revealed Egyptian Art Deco wing is a beneficent contribution to the city dialogue. Whitty Building Redevelopment Project Conrad Gargett Heritage Architecture Superseded as the Mater Public Hospital, Whitty House has been sensitively re-purposed as the University of Queensland s clinical training facility, while successfully upgrading the building s role as an important link within the hospital. Accretions have been carefully removed to recover the form and details of Robin Dods original design. 7 P a g e

Bluesky Marc&Co Interior Architecture This witty, confident design for a local business has crafted a suite of whimsical, carefully scaled spaces where the wonder and delight of staff is a priority. From the almost domestic aperture to the spectacularly cinematic panorama, the view is variously framed and experienced to enrich the workplace. The Star Gold Coast: Existing Hotel Refurbishment ML Design and Steelman Partners (USA) Interior Architecture The Star Hotel refurbishment provides new planning arrangements, improved amenity and finishes to guest rooms at the iconic Gold Coast Jupiters casino. The elegant rejuvenation has changed the spatial sense, quality and feel of the accommodation. Dextrously achieved in a tight time frame with the hotel continuing to function. UQ Chemistry Levels 3 & 4 m3architecture Interior Architecture The inventive exposure of laboratory services, carefully crafted details and layering of translucent glass into UQ Chemistry creates a unique and memorable identity to this department. In contrast, the laboratory design plays up the notion of the traditional stark white on white lab, cleverly staging the skill of chemistry. Brisbane Girls Grammar School Research Learning Centre Interior m3architecture Interior Architecture The integration of teaching and library in apparently complex but ingeniously simple interconnecting double height volumes has resulted in an intriguing, therefore irresistible learning environment for Year 7 girls. In a tough procurement process conceptual rigour delivers calm, finely detailed spaces that reference tradition and context while enabling innovation. 8 P a g e

Base Office Base Architecture Interior Architecture Base Architecture has crafted a working space for themselves deeply connected to the surrounding suburban context and community. A collaborative and flexible construction process has allowed the interior to imaginatively and skillfully evolve with reclaimed and re-used materials. BHP Billiton Workplace BVN G.H.M Addison Award for Interior Architecture The BHP Billiton Workplace is highly successful in its strategic and volumetric organisation of a complex client program. The selection and combination of materials and inventive detailing create a meaningful fabric, reinforcing its purpose and enriching the life of its occupants. This workplace is a shining exemplar for the ergonomics of the modern office. The identity of the interior and its accompanying roof terrace adumbrates a cogent and compelling narrative of the connection between the city workplace and the remote mining sites. It meticulously informs and calibrates the built language of the space, section, material and detail throughout. UQ Forgan Smith Building TC Beirne School of Law and Walter Harrison Library Refurbishment BVN Interior Architecture The Forgan Smith Building West Wing successfully delivers an adaptive, and reimagined interior for the TC Beirne School of Law and Law Library. Distinctive in style, program and volume the interior architecture elegantly serves as a stately setting for the teaching, learning and research of law. KDV Golf and Tennis Academy, Gold Coast Shiro Architects Pty Ltd Public Architecture KDV is a new multipurpose leisure facility that caters for golfers, tennis players and the local community. A slender transparent building, with an elegant entry sequence, is rigorous in its geometry and articulated spatial organisation. This building is honest in its approach and has nothing to hide. 9 P a g e

Anna Meares Velodrome Cox Architecture Public Architecture As a valuable but economical addition to Queensland s sporting facilities, the spectacular interior of the Anna Meares Velodrome comprises an undulating oval timber track, freestanding within an almost circular, membrane-clad enclosure, with a geometrically complex steel-framed saddle-shaped roof. Toowoomba City Library James Cubitt Architects and Peddle Thorp in Association, with Elia Architecture Public Architecture A prominent building outlooking the Civic Square, the library is a series of well organised spaces with a high level of consideration towards meaningful client interaction. The building is inviting and userfocused internally, while externally the copper cladding serves as a gleaming beacon to the community. Coomera Sports and Leisure Centre BDA Architecture with Peddle Thorp Architects (Melbourne) Public Architecture The Coomera Sports and Leisure Centre balances the functional requirements of the Commonwealth Games needs whilst leaving a profound legacy of a sophisticated and usable multipurpose facility. The enormity of the articulated steel framed 'shed' hovers above the ground with confidence, this building is both elegant and robust. Act for Kids Child and Family Centre of Excellence m3architecture Public Architecture Emblematically tough but tender this collection of structures pivoted around a grove of trees at the forested edge of the university campus choreographs a passage for children's healing. The materiality and elemental assemblage of concrete block are both reverent of James Birrell and the concrete tradition of the James Cook campus. 10 P a g e

The Globe Brian Hooper Architect and m3architecture (architects in association) Public Architecture Astutely championing the significance of a main street corner pub in rural Queensland opportunity is made of the multi-layered patterns of timber, steel, translucent sheet s light and shadow, whilst framing views within the building, the partially formed cloister and the streetscape to revive this significant place in Barcaldine. Rockhampton Hospital - New Ward Block Jacobs/ HASSELL Public Architecture Rockhampton Hospital - New Ward Block (Commendation) A complex program is delivered with clarity and purpose. Natural daylight is well orchestrated at thresholds onto deep floor plates and along a northern light shaft to lower ground treatment spaces. Natural timber brings warmth and calmness upon arrival and colour informs the way finding with refreshing vibrancy. Sunshine Coast University Hospital Architectus Brisbane and HDR Rice Daubney as Sunshine Coast Architects F.D.G Stanley Award for Public Architecture Embracing its natural surroundings, the Sunshine Coast University Hospital is an exemplary world class health and educational facility that puts patient experience, well-being and biophilia at its forefront. This is an intelligent and elegant public building that strives for local use and social engagement through the clearly defined provision of green corridors, public outdoor spaces and community infrastructure. Consequentially achieving one of Australia s largest constructions in a green-field site crafted into the surrounding coastal landscape genuinely belonging to its place and community. Noosa Nest Tim Ditchfield Architects P/L Residential Architecture - Houses (Alterations and Additions) Originally a duplex designed by Job and Froud architects in 1970 and later re-configured into a house, this major renovation and addition retains and builds on the most successful elements of its earlier incarnations. Thoughtfully planned and detailed, the house nestles effortlessly into the hillside landscape enjoying superb views over Laguna Bay. 11 P a g e

Burleigh Street House ME Elina Mottram Award for Residential Architecture - Houses (Alterations and Additions) Burleigh Street House sits on a busy corner in Gold Coast suburbia, is a reworking of a small brick bungalow creating a fine sequence of connected indoor and outdoor spaces. The three connected pavilions intelligently incorporating existing building fabric create open rooms engaged with garden interstices while secure from the street. The architecture is informed by a scholarly insight into the mid-century seaside coastal language with joyful referencing to the infinity of the sky, sea and sand along with the colour palette of the native fauna and flora. Paddington Residence Kieron Gait Architects Residential Architecture - Houses (Alterations and Additions) At Paddington Residence the archetype breezeway corridor linking street and backyard is retained as the fulcrum to a series of intimate, yet connected, human-scale gathering spaces. Homage to the clients personal background is interwoven with architectural forms and a material palette that rest quietly in the inner-suburban landscape. Princess Base Architecture Residential Architecture - Houses (Alterations and Additions) Memories and attachment are preserved in this sensitive work where a modest family home has been reborn for a second generation and prepared for the next. Princess recognises the value of a post war low cost housing style that is often overlooked and ably demonstrates its potential. Rosalie Plinth House Arcke Residential Architecture - Houses (Alterations and Additions) Rosalie Plinth House crafts generous space and openness on a small lot. Functions are skillfully articulated in plan and section avoiding corridors. Plentiful natural light and a restrained colour palate marry with plywood and timber comfortably linking modern rear additions to the charming workers cottage at the front. 12 P a g e

Dornoch Terrace House James Russell Architect Residential Architecture - Houses (Alterations and Additions) An occupied landscape of shared spaces and borrowed experience, Dornoch Terrace House enables interactions of people, place and the environment to be infinitely fine-tuned to the conditions and activities of daily life. Construction and spatial experimentation demonstrate sustainability whilst evoking memories of past occupants and vernacular building traditions. Luke & Amanda's Beach House Scott Carpenter Architect Luke and Amanda's Beach House is a joyous collaboration between architect and owner builder creating a white, light filled, airy and generous home, inspired by Hampton's style. A circulation slot running the length of the house connects lower level living spaces with upper level bedrooms. Drury Street Marc&Co and Baber Studio Nestled in West End s avenues, the Drury Street house is a modestly scaled family home brimming with ideas and investigations; fruits of a fertile collaboration between client & architects. Undercroft, attic and garden are engaging habitable spaces to capture the imagination, becoming rich incubators for household memories. Whale House Paul Uhlmann Architects This home is delicately crafted and responsive to the coastal climate of Kingscliff. The clarity in the spatial organisation is based on a central boardwalk guarded by a delicate and robust screen. The balance of light and shade within the home is peaceful. 13 P a g e

Rocky Base Architecture This house is a joyful collaboration between architect and client. Base Architecture have embraced the personality and spirit of their client s brief to create a rich and elegant home that blends midcentury west-coast modernism with regional influences. Cape Tribulation House m3architecture Robin Dods Award for Deep in the Daintree, a playful rope is a reassuring guide for the narrative of revealing the built form as a lens and mirror to the dense tropical rainforest. The social heart is a breezeway deck with pavilions offering contemplation and comfort. A disciplined and deep respect for the rainforest drives the holistic approach from siting to occupation. The careful sculpting of the section offers abundant and varied prospect over the World Heritage setting whilst affording intimate scale contemplative retreat. Byron Bay House and Studio Vokes and Peters This single level, delicate and highly crafted home in Byron Bay is tranquil and tactile without the typical beach house preoccupations. The interiors are articulated purposefully with air and light purposefully within the constraints of a deep and wide floor plan. It is both sensitive and generous, connected and layered. House on Guido Shane Denman Architects The external appearance of this house as a simple strong element sits comfortably with the power and character of this site. The clarity in the design approach is carried through into the interior where the elegantly simple yet practical spaces add to the appreciation of the site s beauty. 14 P a g e

Ringrose Residence Brian Hooper Architect A deceptively simple planning hierarchy linking three pavilions sheltered beneath a cantilevered skillion canopy, The Ringrose Residence as an exemplar is simple and unadorned, raw and robust with a leanness of structure. Deep rhythmic shadows form a cool and generous threshold to the landscape and relief from the arid topography. Bardon House bureau^proberts (with PHAB) Bardon House presents a dramatic triangulated screened facade to reinvigorate the Bardon streetscape. The low scale enfolding planes to the entry are elegantly counterbalanced by the verticality of interior as it steps down the site accented by private courtyards and sublime views of distant parklands. Tent House Sparks Architects The tent house defines inside outside living in the Noosa hinterland. Walls and ceilings dissolve into carefully crafted openings, leaving nothing but the ethereal fly roof, sky and the surrounding rainforest. This permanent state of camping, belies none of the luxuries of a new architecturally designed home gifted with an efficiently planned scheme and bespoke detailing throughout. Inverdon House Chloe Naughton Inverdon House An essay in the honest expression of materials, a refined structure where transitions and thresholds are enriched by finely honed detailing. Childhood memories inform the narrative of two pavilions either side of a focal living space with porcelain like blockwork and delicate metal filigree interwoven into the daily ritual of occupation. 15 P a g e

O'Shea House Julianne McAlloon Architects The beach side residence is a testament to a successful and dedicated client-architect relationship. With a strong engagement with the surrounding landscape, the house encourages an open dialogue with the street. The careful planning and positioning of openings effectively capture the breeze and frame ocean views. Haddad Residence Total Project Group Architects On a challenging sloped site, this sanctuary is dramatically anchored into the hillside. The thoughtful and subtle sequencing of rooms reveal a varying interaction of near and far landscape views. The composition of concrete, timber and glass and respectful response to site, invites natural ventilation and light. breezeway house majstorovic architecture Highly resolved yet deceptively simple, this thoughtful little house built on a modest budget is planned around an existing tree within a tight building envelope. Although a contemporary building, the house evokes memories of experiences past. A secure central breezeway connects the three independent pods whilst providing critical ventilation. Richard Henry K Architecture Perched within a natural tree lined setting, the Richard Henry house captures select views and cooling breezes. The striking angular design derived by aligning axis with nearby mountain features allows this aspiring piece of architecture to soar above the ground providing a functional and low maintenance house. 16 P a g e

Stuart Street House Outcrop Architecture Nestled on the side of the iconic Castle Hill reserve this house pays deference to the landscape. A stair climb, living room inverted balcony, swimming pool and bbq deck offer indelible engagement of varying scale with the beauty of the panorama while the colour palette respectfully compliment the rugged hillscape. Farrell Street House James Russell Architect Remarkable modesty of program, space and material use in Farrell St is complemented by a masterful interaction of northern indoor/outdoor areas, making this family home wonderfully livable. The striking external brick fireplace and front courtyard extends outdoor living and presents a welcoming gesture to the street. Naranga Avenue House James Russell Architect Naranga Avenue House is a provocative exploration of suburban residential typology using white clay bricks on edge as a contemporary 'breeze block' enclosing screen. The simple rectangular form is sited mid block allowing generous front and rear yards. Ground floor living spaces gather around an indoor/outdoor courtyard open to the sky. Mitti Street House James Russell Architect The Mitti Street house is a purpose built semi-enclosed structure designed to experience the elements whilst on holiday. Surrounded by rainforest, this enjoyable environment for multiple families to gather is surrounded by rainforest and encourages activities from playing in the courtyard pool during summer to sitting around an open winter fire, - all while being delicately wrapped in a protective shade cloth veil. 17 P a g e

Currimundi Beach House Conrad Gargett The attractive yet subtle street facade belies the challenges of creating this family beach house atop of a rising sand dune. Beautifully constructed, the house gradually reveals itself as one ascends the split levels. The main living space steps directly onto ground, with direct views to Dickie Beach. Habitat on Terrace REFRESH*DESIGN Residential Architecture - Multiple Housing Five new dwellings join the original inter-war residence on this suburban site. The simple but highly effective sectional strategy achieves multiple objectives including climatic design, low maintenance and appropriate balance between privacy and neighbourliness. Evocative primary forms and unexpected material palette make a strong contribution to the streetscape. Atria at Hamilton Reach Arkhefield Residential Architecture - Multiple Housing Atria capitalises on its triangular site to achieve an exemplary design for subtropical living. Every dwelling in the configuration of two apartment buildings and two rows of terrace houses achieves cross-ventilation, well-balanced orientation and views, outdoor living and internal spaciousness, privacy and community. St Joseph's Nudgee College Bathersby Boarding Village m3architecture Job & Froud Award for Residential Architecture - Multiple Housing The Boarding Village uses a playful castle analogy to reinvent existing dorms as a central home base for 300 boys in the midst of the school campus. A new gatehouse completes a dynamic four-sided private courtyard bringing the four boarding houses together for the first time in the school s history. The narrative of castle establishes the boys to their place within the community and emphasises the demarcation from the school campus beyond the gates. The castle and its shared territory of generous village green proffers an ideal microclimate for all spaces, from the social, to the individual cubicle. 18 P a g e

Ronald McDonald House South Brisbane BVN Residential Architecture - Multiple Housing Ronald McDonald House provides much-needed convenient and affordable accommodation for families with children in Brisbane's hospitals. The design resolves significant site challenges, and spatial planning revolves around livability, functionality and family. The building core is conceptualized as the hearth and the wings as enfolding arms. Studio for Indigo Jungle Marc&Co Hayes & Scott Award for Small Project Architecture Set amongst subtropical gardens, Studio for Indigo Jungle cleverly expresses its structural form of tapered space enveloped by folded walls. A sequence of arrival invites you along a path to reach a cutting in the landscape leading to the studio s elevated platform floor of shimmering mosaic tiles as an allegory of water. Its relationship to nature and experiential qualities delivers a highly imaginative, memorable and innovative conspectus with amplified sensory connections to the ground, garden and sky. Manshed Paul Uhlmann Architects Small Project Architecture This building's main space is a carefully articulated double-height room, created with a rich but restrained material palette. A large mechanically operated glazed door enables this light-filled volume to open up dramatically to the Brisbane river, to take in views of both an adjacent poinciana tree and the City beyond. Taringa Treehouse phorm architecture + design Small Project Architecture This building's main space is a carefully articulated double-height room, created with a rich but restrained material palette. A large mechanically operated glazed door enables this light-filled volume to open up dramatically to the Brisbane river, to take in views of both an adjacent poinciana tree and the City beyond. 19 P a g e

The Piano Mill Conrad Gargett Small Project Architecture The patinated copper and strong vertical form of this object sits comfortably within the dramatic forest landscape. Is it architecture? Is it sculpture? Is it a musical instrument? It is all about enjoyment - the enjoyment of the environment, of the arts and of friends. It is a celebration. Aspley Vet Vokes and Peters Small Project Architecture This extension doubles the size of a vet practice originally in a project home. Suspended concrete beams and extensive glazing overlay commercial character to the domestic scale suburban development. The strong relationship between entry, reception and external landscape courtyards generate a calming ambiance in a potentially stressful environment. SIPS Residence Kieron Gait Architects Small Project Architecture This low budget extension experiments using modular sips panel and reclaimed materials with economy in mind. Entry under the house through a dark lined passageway heightens your experience on arrival of the living spaces. Textured and warm interior volumes connect you to the existing house and join seamlessly with the back yard. Side House Project Sprout Architects Small Project Architecture Fuelled by a desire for socially and environmentally sustainable architecture, the side house project presents an alternative housing solution unique at this time to the Sunshine Coast.
