She has been married since 1986 to Dr. Howard M. Liljestrand, a professor and associate chairman in the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Texas. Their twin children, Emily Morgan and Frasier Lane Liljestrand, were born in Austin, Texas on June 19, 1991 and currently attend Rice University.
