THE UN IVE RSITY Twenty-five yea rs ago, in March 1962, the University College of Wollongong was founded as a college of the University of!'.ew South Wales. The founding of the new college in Wollongong was in part at least the outcome of the Initiative and hard work of a Citizens Committee in Woliongong. They worked to convince the government of the need for a university in Wollongong and to raise funds (nearly $270,000) 10 assist with its inauguration. We are much Indebted to that group and the city for both inilial and continuing su pport. ARMS O F THE UN IVERSITY The principal elements incorporated in the Arms of the University are the blue of the sea, the gold of the sand and the red of the IlIawarra flame tree. The open book often used for educational institutions has also been included. The blazon is: "Azure an open book proper bound gold on a chief wavy or three cinquefoils gu les".

CONFERRING OF DEGREES AND AWARDING OF DIPLOMAS Candidates will be admitted to degrees and awarded diplomas by the Chancellor. The Congregation may applaud as the name of each graduate is announced. OCCASIONAL ADDRESS Mr ROQyn Williams, BSc(Hons)(Lond.), (Hon)DSc(Deakin), will deliver the Occasional Address. Mr Robyn Williams is the Executive Producer of thl! Science Uni t of the Australian Broadcasting Commission, a position he has held since 1975. The Unit produces the weekly " Science Show" on ABC Radio. Mr WiJliams is also President of the Australian Museum Trust and a Commissioner on the Commission for the Future. THE THANKS The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Research), Professor I.W. Chubb, will move the vote of thanks. CONCLUSION The Chancellor will close the proceedings. The Congregation is requested to stand as the procession retires.
