About ADMAF The Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) seeks to nurture the arts, education, culture and creativity for the benefit of society and the advancement of Abu Dhabi s cultural vision. Established in 1996 by H.E. Hoda Al Khamis-Kanoo, the Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation under the presidency and patronage of H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Culture, Youth & Community Development. ADMAF delivers year-round arts education and community arts initiatives as well as special projects and the Abu Dhabi Festival. It brings together audiences of all ages and nationalities, and nurtures the creativity of the UAE in partnership with national & international institutions. About Abu Dhabi Art Since 2009, Abu Dhabi Art presents museum quality artworks from modern, contemporary art and design galleries, including a wide spectrum of installations and large-scale sculptures, as well as a new sector titled Artists Waves that places the discovery and re-discovery of artists at the core of Abu Dhabi Art, through a curated exhibition. Every year, Abu Dhabi Art invites non-profit organisations, known for support of the local culture scene. Local participants highlight some of their initiatives in the Abu Dhabi Art Community space. ADMAF has had a pavilion at Abu Dhabi Art since 2011. About The ADMAF Design Commission In October 2013 ADMAF initiated a competition to conceptualise and design its pavilion It was won by Hanan Al Kaf and Lamya Al Shamsi, Architecture & Interior Design students from the College of Fine Arts & Design, University of Sharjah On the occasion of Abu Dhabi Art 2014, ADMAF will once again commission an interior design concept for its pavilion Admission and Selection Criteria The call for proposals is open to Emirati nationals aged 18 to 35 years Team projects are accepted (maximum of 3 members per group) Applicants are requested to submit an application form accompanying a design proposal of a clean, modern and visually intriguing, eye-catching space, drawing their inspiration from contemporary iconic architect Zaha Hadid Applicants are also asked to take into account that the theme chosen for ADMAF Pavilion is Rewarding Excellence, which will spotlight the Foundation's series of awards, which celebrates creativity among young people and creates role models in the arts. Born in Baghdad, Iraq, in 1950, Zaha Hadid studied Mathematics at the American University in Beirut and Architecture at the Architectural Association School in London. Following her studies, she established an architecture bureau in London and taught at the Architectural Association School. Two years later, she won the Architectural Design Gold Medal and in 2004, became the first woman to be awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize. Zaha Hadid s style is boldly contemporary, organic and innovative. The architect pushes design through new technology and materials and never does ordinary. Besides creating architecture, the architect is a celebrated painter, designer of furniture and interior products + fittings such as bowls and chandeliers. Some of her seminal built works, the Vitra Fire Station (1993), Weil am Rhein, Germany, the Mind Zone at the Millennium Dome (1999) Greenwich, UK, a ski jump (2002) in Innsbruck, Austria and the Rosenthal Centre for Contemporary Art (2003) in Cincinnati, Ohio. Parallel with her private practice, Hadid has continued to be involved in academics, holding chairs and guest professorships at Harvard University, Yale University, the University of Illinois at Chicago, Columbia University, the University of Visual Arts in Hamburg and the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Applicants are reminded that the ADMAF Pavilion will be used to convey the following information to visitors The theme for the ADMAF Pavilion is Rewarding Excellence, which will spotlight the Foundation's series of awards celebrating outstanding creativity among young people while creating role models in the arts. The Pavilion will present all ADMAF Awards and where appropriate the winning works of the latest editions. ADMAF Comic Arts Award is awarded to an Emirati aged between 18 and 35 for his/her work in the comic field (comic book, comic strip, single drawn or digital image, animation, etc.) The Christo & Jeanne-Claude Award presented by New York University Abu Dhabi Institute in partnership with ADMAF is awarded for the proposal and creation of an artwork that, in the spirit of Christo and Jeanne-Claude s work, can be publicly exhibited and enjoyed. The ADMAF Creativity Award is awarded to an Emirati for their outstanding contribution in Video, Film, Photography, Visual Arts or Creative Writing. The Abu Dhabi Festival Visual Arts Award seeks to nurture creativity among emerging Emirati artists and visual arts undergraduates through the creation of an original piece of work inspired by an Abu Dhabi Festival artist. The Nationals Gallery aims to empower established, emerging and upcoming artists with opportunities to accelerate their careers and enhance their talent.
