RESULTS H. GENE MURTHA SENRYU CONTEST 2018 Steve and I thank everyone who submitted, and all of you who read the wonderful poems presented!
I want to thank Lori and Chase for taking on this issue and inspiring so many wonderful examples of the form! For those who have just met this talented duo take a quick read of their bios: Chase Gagnon s poetry and photography have been widely published in multiple venues around the world. He won the grand prize in the first annual Jane Reichhold Memorial Haiga Competition and is a finalist in the 2018 Detroit News Celebrate Michigan Photo Contest. In September 2017 Chase had several of his haiga displayed at Michigan State University s Look Out! Gallery. He is the author of three collections of poetry, The Sound of Shadows, No Regrets, and his most recent collection Empty Pockets which features haiga. Lori A Minor is a feminist existentialist who dabbles in haiku, free verse, abstract painting, photography, and digital art, as well as the performing arts. She is the editor of the new mini e-zine #FemkuMag. In September 2017, Lori published her first book: Radical Women: A Book of Femku. Her work has appeared in issues of Failed Haiku, Prune Juice, Incense Dreams, Moonbathing: A Journal of Women's Tanka, Stardust Haiku, and more. She is honored to be the third place winner and short listed in the 2017 H Gene Murtha Senryu Contest, as well short listed for the 2017 Touchstone Award. Chase and Lori are the founders and editors of Scryptic Magazine. Not only did they come together through their mutual love of literary and visual arts, but also their shared history of mental illness. They want everyone to know that you are not alone and encourage those suffering to reach out.
