Geodis Brno Lazaretni 11a 615 00 Brno Administrative and operational building of the company GEODIS, situated next to the train station Brno-Zidenice The will to bring order into the inconsistent built-up surroundings led to the clear and lapidary expression of the building Two wings enclose an inner atrium which partly opens to passers-by Public access unknown! 1995 Burian-Krivinka http://wwwmimoaeu/users/natalia/guides/brno/ 3
photo: Petr Parolek photo: Petr Parolek Brno Airport Terminal Letiste Brno-Turany 62700 Brno http://wwwairport-brnocz/ The new terminal building at Brno airport brings to mind all sorts of things Looking at the skylights one is put in mind a streamlined shark, while the skin itself, in a pattern of hexagonal titanium-zinc plates that covers both roof and façades, is more reminiscent of a snake With its accentuated entrance, its also presents itself as a symbolic arch, marking the arrival or departure of visitors In fact, what fascinated young local architect Petr Parolek most when designing this building, were the logistics of travel, people's movements and the speed and aerodynamics of airplanes Its sculptural shape stands in sharp contrast to the functionalist, box-like buildings typical of Brno's architectural style, and forms a new landmark for the town Although the dark monolith looks quite imperforate from the outside, it opens up from the inside through its transparent, high-tech steel structure and rooflights, whose curves emulate those of the outer shell photo: Petr Parolek Project is public! 2006 Cooperating designer Structural engineer Structural engineer Client Petr Parolek FA Parolli Foboz 97 OKF design Southern Moravian Region Kirsten_Hannema Getting to the aerodrome by car is very simple, as the aerodrome is located still within the town territory, next to the D1 Brno-Olomouc motorway Driving in the direction from Prague, at km 201 there is a motorway exit marked "Slatina" and the off-turn to the aerodrome is distinctly marked The aerodrome is 2 km from the motorway exit http://wwwmimoaeu/users/natalia/guides/brno/ 4

photo: Kyzlink photo: Kyzlink Interior design AVG Holandska 4 602 00 Brno The AVG office space is entirely unique as it gives its employees maximum opportunities to relax at any time during the day There are 'relaxing zones' on each floor, where everybody can re-vitalize and draw new energy for further work Anyone can choose an environment according to their feeling, people can relax while sitting on the beach, playing table football or discussing work related issues at the billiard table in the Gentlemen's Club Each zone was designed with a different vision and also in various colours to create an atmosphere evoking different moods The architects paid special attention to the innovative furniture The employees particularly enjoy resting on the relaxing beanbags and they can also relax on board a fishing boat An unusual solution was implemented to provide enough privacy for making phone calls The architects came up with special phone booths It is the idea of a tiny room, where anyone can make a phone call without disturbing other people at work photo: Kyzlink Project is not public! 11-2010 Interior architect Client Kyzlink AVG Technologies KYZLINK http://wwwmimoaeu/users/natalia/guides/brno/ 6

photo: Aulik Fiser s photo: Aulik Fiser s Residential houses in Brno Vrbovecká Brno The plasticity of seemingly flat things, a fine game of lights and shades on planes and grating, a relative scale - a compact forest, a panel house - a slab An important motive is the position on the edge of a group of panel houses and the elementary goal is creating architecture of buildings as a transition from a panel development to a free landscape - flats as close to the forest as possible, a forest penetrating in to the flats - large windows, wood to balconies The design emphasizes simple clear shapes and proportions of the whole building and details The north façade facing the panel houses is completely flat; their articulation projecting the internal arrangement of sections and corridors materializes in shallow embossments on the basic mass' level - an exemption are the broken and emphasised entrances to the buildings or individual sections, as the case may be The south front is on the contrary, richer in shapes and materials photo: Aulik Fiser s Project is not public! 1-2001 Client Aulik Fiser s PSJ Invest OndraT http://wwwmimoaeu/users/natalia/guides/brno/ 12
Apartment House Videnska Videnska 34 63900 Brno A small and tricky site at the corner None of the two streets has a real street front Next to the house are two remnants in front of which there is already not enough pavement due to the widening of the street during the time when the tram line was introduced Therefore the new building is set back It works as a noise barrier: the apartments are facing the calm West and are accessed by a glazed gallery oriented to the busy street The oriel looks at the Spilberk castle and stresses the corner situation Project is not public! 2005 Main designer, Pelcak A Partner Architekti Architekti Hrusa http://wwwmimoaeu/users/natalia/guides/brno/ 13

New Jundrov Optatova 46 63700 Brno Four apartment houses with two entrances each are placed into a slope at the very fringe of the city The slope is used to place the underground garages and to create terraces that define the space between the houses and guarantees the privacy of the gardens of the ground floor apartments The houses have two to three full floors and the upper floor is set-back The special qualities of the houses are the big balconies that allow to place there a real dining table, the generous entrance halls and the naturally top-lit staircases The monochromatic look of the building elements gives the houses their compact appearance Project is not public! 2009 Main designer, Pelcak A Partner Architekti Architekti Hrusa http://wwwmimoaeu/users/natalia/guides/brno/ 17

photo: Filip Slapal photo: Filip Slapal Omega Palace Department Store Námestí Svobody 18 Brno The Omega Palace Department Store on Svobody Square in Brno is part of a block of big, neo-renaissance and baroque buildings and interwoven with internal passages The design links up with this structure via a horizontal passage that runs through the store and connects the square with the neighbouring Alfa Palace Escalators in the central hall connect the various floors The elevation facing the square is a modern interpretation of the neighbouring buildings: the opalescent glass suggests mass, an effect that is reinforced by the fact that the glass is not a single smooth surface, but is punctuated by storey-high windows with deep reveals Inside, mass gives way to openness In keeping with the horizontally and vertically connected structure, spaces are visually linked to one another by the use of clear glass for the balustrades, internal walls, floor inserts and lighting strips Project is public! photo: Filip Landa House with a studio Kamenná 13 63900 Brno The 'House with a studio' is a sibling of the villa on the adjacent Red Hill Both houses stand on just one building site whose northern edge is formed by Kamenná Street and the southern edge by the peak of Red Hill In addition, Kamenná Street bends dramatically at the building at number 13, therefore the house facing the street creates an urbanistically attractive viewpoint The architect - designer of the lower house and a brother of the developer of the upper house - was well aware of the strength of the genius loci His variety of expression is rich and much more adaptable to the concrete conditions of the building site than one sees by a majority of Brno architects whose premise was the orthogonal Post-Functionalism Project is public!
