What is Sheltered Housing? Sheltered accommodation is designed with the needs of older people in mind. Our Sheltered accommodation includes unfurnished homes which provide comfort and security and at the same time give residents full independence. Am I eligible? If you are over 55 then yes! What support would I receive? Our sheltered housing schemes have a dedicated Scheme Manager who provides housing related support and assists with emergencies when on site. Housing Related Support is tailored to the needs of each individual resident and is normally provided by a non-residential Scheme Manager during working hours. What other facilities are available in sheltered schemes? The majority of sheltered housing schemes have communal facilities such as community rooms for social activities and laundry facilities with washing machines and dryers. Some of our properties also have guest rooms available for the use of residents visitors at a nominal charge. The community rooms are used for social activities such as coffee mornings and events organised by the residents or Scheme Manager. The residents of the schemes are encouraged to take part and to help organise activities if they wish. Where are Mount Green s sheltered homes? We have 9 sheltered housing schemes across Surrey; some brief details about each scheme are included within this leaflet. For further information on any of these schemes please contact us on 01372 379 555. How much does it cost? Sheltered rents are social rents which differ from scheme to scheme. Social rent levels are set in accordance with government requirements and are significantly below market rents. Are there any other costs? In addition to rent, sheltered residents have to pay a service charge which goes towards estate services and communal cleaning as well as a support charge which contributes to having a Scheme Manager and the Telecare Community Alarm System.
Are there any benefits or grants available for sheltered residents? You may wish to apply for housing benefits and other benefits via your local authority. You may also be eligible for funding to help cover your support charge; this can be applied for directly by us on your behalf once you are one of our residents. How can I apply for sheltered housing?
