ON-CAMPUS LIVING The university s 93-acre campus includes three apartmentstyle residence halls. Living on campus offers all the amenities of home plus the convenience of being close to classes, the Fitness Center, your friends and great student programming. Student Housing combines the best of both worlds; students live in a more independent community, but still have some of the conveniences inherent in any traditional residential program (student staff members, opportunities to build community, organized programs, etc.). Please visit http://rfu.ms/oncampushousing for additional information including photos, floor plans and other great information. One of the best ways to fully experience the campus culture is to join us in Student Housing. Living on campus offers a variety of advantages that can make life at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science more convenient, more productive and more fun. 4 One and two bedroom apartments are available for rent. APARTMENT LIVING Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFU) is excited to partner with the Woodlands on Green Bay apartment community as the preferred offcampus housing community exclusively for students at RFU. Located directly south of the university, the Woodlands on Green Bay gives students an off-campus housing option within walking distance to the university and the comfort of having only RFU students and their families residing within their community. One and two bedroom apartments are available, and families are welcome to reside in the apartment with students. Two bedroom units can be rented by one student or shared with an assigned roommate or roommate of your choice who is another RFU student. The seven three-story buildings were built in two phases, with Phase 1 established in 1987 and Phase 2 in 1991. Each phase contains different apartment layout choices. Most units at the Woodlands on Green Bay are two bedroom units. We encourage students to include two bedroom preferences on their application as one bedroom units are limited. 18

Frequently Asked Questions How do I apply to live in On-Campus Housing or at the Woodlands on Green Bay? All students can apply at http://rfu.ms/housingapp. Applications are then forwarded to the RFU Office of Student Housing, who verifies your enrollment at RFU and assigns you to an apartment that most closely matches your preferences. The Office of Student Housing will then send you a Welcome Letter containing your apartment details, costs and leasing information. How do I confirm my space with Student Housing? After you have completed your confirmation form and paid your administrative fee of $265 for the Woodlands, or made your $500 pre-payment to the Office of Financial Services for On-Campus, your placement is confirmed. The $500 pre-payment made for On-Campus will be applied to your first quarter billing. Who is my lease through? For On-Campus Housing, your contract is with the university. For the Woodlands, all apartment leases are issued from the Woodlands Management Office. After confirmation, your information will be forwarded to the Woodlands Management Office for coordination of your lease. How many months is the lease? To correlate with the beginning of Fall Quarter at RFU, standard leases and contracts are 10 12 months in length and begin between August 1 August 6 of each academic year. However, there are a limited amount of available 12-month leases that begin on June 1 each year to accommodate students beginning their program in summer quarter at RFU. In addition, as vacancies occur, leases will be available to begin at any time and have designated end dates of May 31 or July 31 as appropriate for your academic needs. 46 How are roommates coordinated? If you would like to share an apartment with another RFU student, you have two options. First, you can provide the name of a student you wish to be placed with on your application. Roommates who list each other as preferred roommates will be placed together as long as they also have chosen the same #1 preference for apartment. Second, if you do not know of a student you wish to share an apartment with, we can assign you a roommate based on preferences you submit on your application form. Roommate information will be given during the month prior to move-in. If you have a roommate, you each will be responsible for the rent associated with your bedroom assignment. Should your roommate move out mid-year, you will only be responsible for the rent of your bedroom, but you could be assigned another roommate any time.
What costs am I responsible for in addition to rent? For On-Campus housing, all utilities, including basic cable, WiFi, heat, water, gas and sewer, are included with the exception of electric. Students report the average cost per month for electric to be between $20-80 per month. At the Woodlands, in addition to rent, each student is responsible for paying electric and gas utilities. Students report the average costs of electric and gas utilities are $120 each month per apartment. In addition, if you would like cable TV in your apartment you will need to separately contract for these services through Comcast at their standard rates. Roommates residing in the same apartment are expected to share in the cost of the electric and gas utilities. In addition, all residents are required to obtain renters insurance. There is no security deposit required for living at Woodlands on Green Bay. Sycamore units, which contain in-unit laundry, also incur an additional $40 fee to the monthly rent ($20 per roommate). What if my academic status or location has changed and I no longer need to live at Woodlands on Green Bay? We understand students may encounter circumstances during their academic career that require them to live somewhere outside of the North Chicago area. Students who graduate, have an academic status change, a personal or family illness, withdraw or take a leave of absence from the university, or experience a serious emergency, can request a release from their contract through the RFU Office of Student Housing at least 30 days prior to the requested vacate date. If your request is verified and approved by RFU Student Housing students will be responsible for a $250 fee and prorated charges of apartment type rent to the effective date of termination. Are pets allowed at Woodlands on Green Bay? Yes! Pets are allowed at Woodlands on Green Bay. An additional non-refundable fee of $500 per pet is required at time of leasing and pets are limited to building seven which contains Phase 2 apartment styles. No additional monthly rent is charged for apartments containing pets. Pets are not allowed in the On-Campus buildings. 47
