Surname Mackenzie Serial G6 Frederick Thomas, MA (St And) BA (Oxon) Royal Field Artillery Lieutenant Missing 23 March 1918 Near Beaumont-en-Beine Lieutenant Mackenzie was a Lecturer in the University of St Andrews, dux of the School in 1905, and the winner of several medals both at School and at University. Enlisted in the RFA. He was reported "missing" and later presumed killed in the retirement from St Quentin on 23 March 1918. Surname Macpherson Serial G9 Donald 36 North Lindsay Street, Dundee Scottish Horse - attached 1/3 Black Watch Sergeant 6 October 1918 St Quentin Donald Macpherson joined the Scottish Horse in August 1914 and fought in Gallipoli, where contacted malaria and dysentery. He came home to recuperate but volunteered for further oversea service. He was sento Salonica where he distinguished himself as a scout leader and was mentioned in despatches. In 1918 he landed in France with his Battalion. His brother-in-law, writing home, thus described his death: "We were going up to take over the front line when we were heavily shelled. Headquarters Company stopped, and as we passed Donald gave me a 'cheerio', but just five minutes later a shell landed amongst them, killing Donald and the Adjutant." Page 3 of 11
Surname Martin Serial H2 Keith Seaforth Highlanders 4/5 Bat. Private 21 March 1918 Beaumely-les-Cambrai A clerk with his father, 9 Exchange Lane, Dundee, Private Martin joined the Seaforth Highlanders in 1917. He went to France in December and was only 19 at the time of his death. He was one of a little band of Seaforths holding an important position. One by one the members of the party were shot down but the gallant lad kept on fighting until he, too, was killed. Surname Martin Serial H1 David Anderson 89 Hospital Wynd Black Watch 7th Bat. Lance-Corporal 23 April 1917 Fampoux, near Arras David Martin was an apprentice piano tuner when he joined the 7th Black Watch in December 1915. He proceeded to France in November 1916. Page 4 of 11

He had the Queen's Medal with six bars (Cape Colony, Laing's Neck, Relief of Ladysmith, Orange Free State, Tugela Heights), and the King's Medal with two bars (South Africa 1901 and 1902). As a reservist he was called up at the outbreak of war and was on duty at different depots after mobilization. In civil life Corporal McEwan was a clerk in the Electricity Suppply Deprtment, Dundee. Surname McGregor Serial G5 Andrew Smith 138 Ferry Road, Dundee Cameron Highlanders 1st Bat. Private 17 October 1918 France Private McGregor was a member of the staff of the City Chamberlain's Office. He was well known in the Boys' Brigade, having been an enthusiastic NCO of the 3rd Dundee (YMCA) Company, among whom he was a general favourite. Enlisting in the Cameron Highlanders and transferred to the Lovat Scouts, Private McGregor, who was only 19 years of age, was in France for several months. Page 5 of 11

Surname Miller Serial H9 George Clark 1 Melrose Terrace, Dundee Royal Scots Fusiliers Captain 26 August 1918 Henin Hill, near Arras George C Miller was Dux of the School in 1909 and "Armitstead" medallist, He saw a good deal of service in Palestine and was twice wounded. Later he transferred to the Western front. When war broke out Captain Miller was a Science student in the University of St Andrews. Surname Miller Serial H8 George Bell Royal Flying Corps Second Lieutenant 1 May 1917 George B Miller was son of John R Miller, organ builder, Dundee. He enlisted in the Highland Light Infantry but at the time of his death he was a member of the Royal Flying Corps. He and his pilot went on a night bombing expedition from which they did not return. Surname Milne Serial I1 David, ARIBA Essex Regiment 10th Bat. Second Lieutenant 21 September 1918 Hindenburg Line David Milne was the son of the late Mr DM Milne, confectioner, Victoria Road, Dundee. When war broke out he was practising as an architect and surveyor in Doncaster. He enlisted as a private in the London Scottish. After a period of training as a cadet he received a commission in the 10th Esses Regiment. He was killed in an atack on the Hindenburg line. He received a commission in the Royal Scots Fusiliers. He went to the East with the Royal Scots to which he was afterwards attached. Surname Murray Serial I4 Peter Herbert 16 Baxter Park Terrace, Dundee Seaforth Highlanders Lance-Corporal 9 November 1917 Battle of Tekrit, Mesopotamia Lance-Corporal Murray was Dux of the School in 1913 and a medallist in Scripture Knowledge, English and French. He entered the University of Edinburgh as third bursar and, continuing his studies there, secured medals in French and Logic. He gave every promise of a distinguished University career.
