HYBRID FORMAT ELECTIVE We are offering two elective courses this summer in hybrid format. A hybrid format is a course format that combines online learning with a residential session schedule different from the traditional residential courses that meet once a week throughout the trimester. Hybrid formats may include sessions on select weekends or sessions that meet more intensively for one or two weeks. Hybrid formats enable us to offer courses at times that may be more convenient for some students, or to have visiting professors during the trimester, and it allows some of our distance students to participate in residential classes. Please read the course description and note the dates the class will meet residentially. Attendance at these residential sessions is mandatory. CARM/CARD/MACS 6618 The Reflective Practitioner Although some people dismiss conflict resolution practice by thinking we just "make it up as we go along," we know that successful "pracademics" are continually testing theory in action and their intervention choices are informed by solid academic study. We will explore how this happens through readings, discussion and a focus on the work of Organizational Ombuds who are doing incredible work in government, private companies and higher education. The hope is that students will pair with an ombuds in one of these sectors to "shadow them" as they go about some of their work to more fully understand the science and artistry of their conflict resolution practice. Ombuds and Ombuds Offices are one of the most obvious and important growth areas in our field today. This class will meet residentially (NSU main campus) on the following dates: May 17 19 from 9:00am 5:00pm followed by fieldwork assignment and reports on blackboard. Please wait for confirmation on specific times and days before making travel arrangements. Updated 5/07/2018 Please be advised that this schedule is subject to change.
