It is located on land that was owned by William Hollis Hudson and his wife Mary Adeline Lina Glover Hudson. Lina inherited this land from her father, William J. Glover. He homesteaded 166 acres on March 19, 1890 (Northwest quarter of Section 33, Township 17 South, 6 West). According to Haley Short Fields (1906-2003), the first church in the community of Short Town was the Dug Hill Methodist Church. It disappeared before her birth. Several families that lived in this area belonged to the Methodist faith at one time. Therefore, research should be carried out at Birmingham-Southern College to look for any evidence of a Dug Hill Methodist Church. On the fourth Sunday in May, the families of the community would meet here to hold a small ceremony before traveling to the Short Town Cemetery for preaching, singing, and lunch.
