Notes for JOHN POWELL: William Asa Powell Family, (pg 327 of The Heritage of Covington County, Alabama, 2003) by Gertrude Powell, daughter of Ivey Thomas Powell, son of William Asa, says John was born in Pike Co in 1820, but Pike Co was not created until Dec 1821. He could have been born in Georgia or Alabama. 1880 census of children William Asa, Benjamin Oliver and dau Lucy indicate their father was born in Ga, but 1900 for all three indicate Alabama for their father s birthplace.
