When is time of the essence, and if not how do you make it so? How do you make sure that your clients have correctly brought the contract to an end and not wrongly repudiated it? The talk examines the Court of Appeal decisions in Samarenko v Dawn Hill House and Urban I (Blonk Street) Ltd. v. Ayres. 2.45-3.30pm Property Damage Richard Stead, Barrister, Richard will discuss liability for damage caused by falling trees in the light of Stagecoach South Western Trains Ltd v Hind 3.30-3.45pm Refreshments 3.45-4.30pm Land Registry Practice Update John Sharples, Barrister, John will consider several recent decisions year that affect Land Registry practice and the rights of those owning or claiming an interest in registered land and charges. Property Litigation Seminar - Wednesday, 20th May 2015 Your presenters Leslie Blohm QC, Call 1982 (Silk 2006) Leslie has extensive expertise in a wide variety of property issues, acting for a range of clients from private individuals to substantial corporations. He regularly acts in relation to property disputes involving overlaps into other specialist areas of law, such as partnership, insolvency and company law. Leslie has been ranked in the Chambers 100 UK Bar, ranking the top 100 silks practising at the Bar of England and Wales. He has achieved this recognition by being ranked in bands one and two of his specialist areas of practice in The Chambers UK Bar Guide. Leslie was appointed a Recorder (2003) and a Deputy High Court Judge (Chancery) (2008), and is a Deputy Head of, the Chairman of the Western Chancery Bar Association, and a member of the Editorial Board of The Conveyancer and Property Lawyer. Richard Stead, Call 1979 Richard specialises in property damage cases arising from fire, flooding, tree root induced subsidence, land slip etc, and in insurance coverage matters. His cases include Grand Pier Limited v System 2 Security Ltd (2013), acting for the defendant installer and operator of the fire alarm response in a 30m plus claim arising out of the fire on the Grand Pier, Westonsuper-Mare. John Sharples, Call 1992 John is the Head of our Property team and specialises in all areas of real property including but not limited to contracts for the sale of land and disputes relating to land development, easements (rights of way, rights to light and water rights), nuisance and trespass, boundaries and mortgages. He is frequently instructed on behalf of major land developers and owners, national house builders and large public authorities as well as private clients. John is the author of a book on Land Licences, printed by Jordans Publishing in which Lord Neuberger, the Master of the Rolls, writes the foreword. He has also recently become a contributor to the New Law Journal. Christopher Jones, Call 2004 Christopher is a chancery and commercial specialist with particular emphasis on trust litigation and advice, contentious and noncontentious probate applications, real property litigation (particularly in relation to easements, restrictive covenants and contracts for the sale of land) and commercial and agricultural landlord and tenant disputes.
