fascinating history and a fine future Gartree was originally a hundred of Leicestershire, located in the South East of the county. The hundred elders chose the sacred Gartree oak as their first meeting place, where local jurors would hand out justice and administer taxes. In 1750, the decision was made to move the meeting place to the Bull s Head Inn in historical Tur Langton, the nearest inn to the sacred tree.
