Morris, AIA, Secretary/Treasurer Re: Medal of Honor Nomination 2015 - Mr. Steve Oubre, AIA Dear Mr. Morris, As the current President of AIA South Louisiana, I offer my whole-hearted support for the nomination of Mr. Steve Oubre, AIA as a candidate for the prestigious Medal of Honor Award for 2015. Early in his career, it became apparent to Steve that Architecture is as much about the assemblage of the Buildings as it is about the Building itself. Beginning in 1984, his firm began to expand it's study into the creation of Community. Cradled in the heart of Acadiana, Steve has provided the successful Master Plan for Traditional Neighbor Developments (TND) including River Ranch and Sugar Mill Pond, both located in the Lafayette, LA area as well as other developments in the state. His firm, Architects Southwest, is a recipient of many AIA South Louisiana Awards and has provided Master Planning Services to UL Lafayette and other Louisiana state colleges. Therefore, I respectfully recommend his nomination as a Medal of Honor recipient. Respectfully Submitted Alan Broussard, AIA Architect P. O. 30 March 2015 Al Broussard Chapter President AIA South Louisiana P. 0. Box 51656 Lafayette, LA 70505 Re: 2015 Metal of Honor Letter of Endorsement Dear, I had the pleasure of working with Steve for right at ten years, and in that time I learned more about desire and drive than at any other previous point in my life. Steve had discovered a real passion - to provide an opportunity for people to live the way we are supposed to live - healthier, happier and more interactive lives. Steve acted on that passion. Steve has brought that opportunity to many people not only in Louisiana, but across the entire Gulf South. I personally can't think of another individual that I know that has advanced the profession of architecture, and who has provided all of us as architects more inspiration. Steve's work has actually made a difference and is continuing to do so every day. This should be an inspiration to all of us, go and make your passion happen. These are just a couple of the reasons why I would ask for to please accept this letter as my Letter of Endorsement for Steve Oubre to be considered for the AIA Louisiana Metal of Honor. March 31, 2015 Attention: Kevin Morris, AIA Secretary /Treasurer RE: Steven J. Oubre, AJA 2015 AJA Louisiana Medal of Honor Nomination Dear i\!ir. Morris: It is my distinct honor and pleasure to write this letter on behalf of the nomination of Steven J. Oubre, AIA, endorsing him for the Medal of Honor, 2015. My relationship with Steve has been through the American Institute of Architects and as a colleague working together on significant projects in south Louisiana. The following are the reasons I am endorsing Steve Oubre's nomination for the Medal of Honor. First and foremost, Steve has been committed to the architects of Louisiana by his continuous involvement in the AL\, both on a local, state, and regional level throughout his entire career. He has served as the President of the local South Louisiana Chapter, the AL\ Louisiana Chapter, and he has served as a Director of the Gulf States Regional Chapter. Steve has also been what I would consider a citizen architect in the community of Lafayette, Louisiana. He has served in capacities representing architects on the Chamber of Commerce, University of Louisiana at Lafayette Alumni Association, the Artist Alliance, and Goodwill Industries. Taking a leadership role in our community is one of the most significant aspects that we as architects can do on behalf of our profession to better our society. As leader of Architects Southwest over the past 30 years or so, Steve's architectural design solutions have been continually recognized for design excellence and he has set a high standard for the architecture profession in south Louisiana. The most noteworthy of Steve's accomplishments in my opinion have been in the area of urban planning. I had the good fortune of associating with Steve on the master plan for Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana, where he introduced our team to the New Urbani.st concepts for campus planning. The master plan has been embraced by the University and was recognized by our colleagues for design excellence. Steve has taken these concepts to a regional level as he has master planned new communities using the New Urbani.st plamung concepts that he has learned through lus close association with Andres Duany (DPZ). Based on the above information and my career-long association with Steve Oubre, AIA, I wholeheartedly recommend to the Board his nomination for the Medal of Honor for AL\ Louisiana. Steve and his firm, Architects Southwest, were among the first to embrace the New Urbanist approach to master planning and brought that design philosophy to numerous communities in Louisiana and the Gulf Coast, often in association with internationally recognized Town Planners and Architects Andres Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk. Architects Southwest is a recipient of many awards for Architecture, Interior Design, and Master Planning and has provided Architecture and Master Planning Services to municipalities throughout the region. Architects Southwest provided a Master Plan for UL Lafayette and other Louisiana schools and universities.
