Cooper, Guy W. Chapman Cemetery Town of Hopewell Cooper s grave is marked by a government stone. However, no open public record of military service has been found to date. More research is required. Cooper, Guy William. U.S., World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918. New York Ontario County 1 Draft Card C. Available on the Internet from Ancestry.com. On his draft registration, Cooper stated that he was born in Chapin, NY (Ontario Co.) and that he was a native born citizen. He was unemployed and living at home (?). Draft Orders for Ontario are Received. Rochester Democrat & Chronicle. Nov. 9, 1918. p. 4. Cooper, of Chapin, is named as one of 189 drafted men to be sent to training camp Nov. 14. The armistice was signed just two days later. [It would appear that Cooper joined the Navy after the armistice.] Obituary. Guy W. Cooper. Daily Messenger. Jan. 16, 1973. p. 2. Obituary says that Cooper was a long-time resident of Chapin, but had lived in Michigan and California. It mentions that he died in Battle Creek, MI and would be buried in Chapman Cemetery. He was born in the Town of Farmington and was a natural born citizen. He was working for Harvey Bennett in Manchester at the time. Deane, George. Library Bureau fm 26-1533. Deane s service summary shows that he was living when he entered the Navy at the Navy Movilization Station, New York, on Nov. 10, 1918 [One day prior to the armistice.] He was discharged on Dec. 19, 1918. Deane s service summary shows that he was born in Farmington, but was living in the Village of Manchester when he was inducted on Nov. 8, 1917. He served overseas from Apr. 1918-Dec. 1918. Deane s headstone application indicates that he served in the army from Nov. 8, 1917-Jan. 25, 1919. He served in the 3 rd Div. It also indicates that the Deanes lived in Palmyra, NY and that he would be buried in Chapman Cemetery. MacDougall Farm Manager Drowns in Lake Near Home. Rochester Democrat & Chronicle. Apr. 11, 1952. p. 45 (26). Article indicates that Deane was managing a Seneca County farm and was accidentally drowned in Seneca Lake. It also mentions that he was born in Farmington, lived in Manchester for 30 years, and would be buried in Chapman Cemetery. Military service was not mentioned. Deane, Reuben. Available on the Internet from Ancestry.com. On his draft registration, Kotteker stated that he was a natural born citizen born in the Town of Hopewell and living in Chapin at the time. He was a state road foreman working for the Bennedict Construction Co. on the Chapin-Orleans Rd. [Present Rt. 488.] He had served three months in the Home Defense corps/ny Guard. Kotteker, Lloyd A. Kotteker s service summary indicates that he was a resident of Chapin and enlisted in the National Guard in Rochester in Jul. 1917. He served overseas from Jun. 1918-Mar. 1919 when he was discharged. Obituary mentions that Kotteker was a resident of Canandaigua born in Chapin; a veteran of World War I; and a member of the American Legion Post in Shortsville.
