He will focus on case histories associated with urban renewal in a variety of cities including Boston, New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New Orleans. His presentation will cover geotechnical issues related to transportation, water supplies, and energy delivery. Addressing the resilience and sustainability of urban systems with consideration for natural hazards such as floods, earthquakes, and drought. Presenter Biography: Professor O Rourke is the Thomas R. Briggs Professor of Engineering in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University. He is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of American Association for the Advancement of Science. He has received several awards from professional societies, including the Collingwood, Huber Research, C. Martin Duke Lifeline Earthquake Engineering, Stephen D. Bechtel Pipeline Engineering, and Ralph B. YOUNG ENGINEERS PROGRAMME Companions Programme* A new bursary scheme to support the attendance of young engineers at the DFI and EFFC 11th International Conference is now in operation. The bursary scheme is designed to allow younger members of the engineering profession to attend the conference and is being funded by a number of supporting organisations. Up to 60 young engineers stand to benefit from the scheme. To qualify for entry, applicants must have less than ten years postgraduate experience in the profession. Entrants must be able to demonstrate how they plan to develop their career in foundations and ground engineering. Successful applicants will gain financial assistance to attend the conference at a heavily discounted rate and a contribution will be made towards their accommodation and travelling expenses. Cancellation/Substitutions A substitute delegate attending in your place is welcome at no extra charge. If written notice of cancellation is received up to 31 days before the event start date, a credit voucher for the full payment will be issued, valid for 12 months, for part or full payment for any Emap conference. Alternatively, on your written request, we will refund 50% of the price of the delegate place. Regrettably no refunds/credit voucher will be available for cancellations received 30 or fewer days before the event start date or for non-attendance. Please Note The conference fee covers entrance to relevant sessions, technical tours, lunch / refreshment breaks, drinks reception, conference documentation and proceedings book.
