BRUNSWICK, GA Brunswick is a city in and the county seat of Glynn County, Georgia. As the major urban and economic center of the state s lower southeast, it is the second-largest urban area on the Georgia coast after Savannah and contains the Brunswick Old Town Historic District. Brunswick supports a progressive economy largely based on tourism and logistics, with a metropolitan GDP of $3.9 billion. The Port of Brunswick handles approximately 10 percent of all U.S. roll-on/roll-off trade third in the U.S., behind the ports of Los Angeles and Newark. The headquarters of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center is located 5 miles north of the central business district of the city and is adjacent to Brunswick Golden Isles Airport, which provides commercial air service to the area. Operated by the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA), the Port of Brunswick specializes in the handling of breakbulk, agri-bulk, and RoRo cargoes. The port includes three distinct terminals Mayor s Point Terminal, Colonel s Island Terminal and Marine Port Terminals. To remain well-positioned for future growth, continued upgrades to infrastructure have been a priority in recent years. On Colonel s Island s Southside, an additional 850 acres of auto-processing capacity was added; BMW returned to the Port of Brunswick, and Mercedes-Benz built a 70,000 square-foot vehicle preparation center, consolidating its Southeastern shipping operations and making the Port of Brunswick Mercedes-Benz USA s South Atlantic Hub. Including BMW and Mercedes, some 15 automobile manufacturers import and export vehicles through the Colonel s Island Terminal. Through its partnership with Bunge North America, one of the world s largest agri-business and food-stuff producers, agribulk tonnage has continued to increase dramatically. A new 10,000-ton grain storage tank was recently completed to accommodate additional volume. Today, the Port of Brunswick remains the second largest grain facility on the East Coast and the second largest auto port in the nation. TOP EMPLOYERS The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), a large agency of the United States Department of Homeland Security, is headquartered in Glynco, north of the city. A study conducted by Georgia Tech identified FLETC as the largest employer in Glynn County; it was further determined that FLETC s annual localized economic impact is in excess of $600 million. Southeast Georgia Health System is the largest private employer in Brunswick. Other major employers in Brunswick include King & Prince Seafood, GSI Commerce, Pinova and Gulfstream Aerospace. Wood pulp is produced by the Georgia-Pacific mill in Brunswick. The mill, which has been in operation since 1937, has the capability to produce over 800,000 metric tons of cellulose each year. Additionally, it is the largest single-site fluff production facility in the world. Hercules, a manufacturer, and marketer of chemical specialties operates a production facility on the north side of Brunswick. Jet aircraft manufacturer Gulfstream Aerospace has a presence at the city s airport. TOURISM Tourism is the single largest industry in the city and the county. Brunswick and the Golden Isles are a year-round resort community. Glynn County s coastal location is a recreational haven for residents and visitors alike. The county features award-winning golf courses, some of the besting fishing on the East Coast, as well as beautiful beaches on the four coastal islands. The five islands of Glynn County, Jekyll Island, St. Simons Island, Sea Island, Little St. Simons Island, and Blythe Island make up the Golden Isles, so named because of their vast marshes that turn a beautiful golden color in the fall. The islands beaches, resorts, shops, and historic sites annually attract visitors from around the world. 14

GOLDEN ISLES OF GEORGIA Within the Golden Isles, tourism is the key driver of economic activity, with an estimated impact of $1.1 billion in 2014. The resort operator, Sea Island Company is the area s largest employer. Of less economic significance, but still important to the area s appeal is the shrimping industry. Once known as the shrimp capital of the world, local shrimpers continue to supply fresh catch to restaurants and retailers throughout the Golden Isles and beyond. Because of its long and varied history and a mixture of disparate peoples, the Golden Isles enjoys a rich cultural heritage that locals work to preserve in a variety of ways. There is also a vibrant contemporary culture that manifests itself in a broad mixture of creative arts. Local theater productions, art exhibits, music festivals, culinary events, environmental expositions, art and photography shows are scheduled throughout the year. Popular venues include the Historic Ritz Theatre, Brunswick Actors Theatre, Mary Ross Park, Neptune Park, and the St. Simons Island Casino, home of the Island Players. St Simons Island, Georgia is home to the RSM Classic, a PGA Tour golf tournament. The event, which began in 2010, has added a second course for 2015 and expanded its field to 156. 15
