AIA Philadelphia Strategic Plan 2018-2023 This Strategic Plan documents the aspirations and values of the members of the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and it sets forth the roadmap to guide the Chapter s leadership and activities over the next five years. Adopted April 24, 2018

VISION Through architecture, we strive to design a better world for all. MISSION Support the architectural community to elevate design expertise, and advance knowledge, advocate for the profession, and promote the value of architecture. 2

OUR VALUES 01 02 03 04 05 06 DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION We believe in fostering a growing population of diverse, culturally competent, resilient, and knowledge-based design professionals. PROSPERITY AND PRACTICE We believe in helping our practices prosper by changing perceptions of the architectural profession; and by broadly disseminating effective models of entrepreneurship, collaboration, consulting design services, and corporate culture. SUSTAINABILITY AND PRESERVATION We believe in positioning the AIA and its members as the leading source for credible, reliable and accessible information on sustainable design practice. We believe that preservation of historic buildings and the greater urban fabric are fundamental precepts of sustainability through their positive impact on the built and natural environments. EQUITABLE COMMUNITIES We believe the skills and resources of our profession should always serve the greater needs of the general public. Affordable housing, transit equity, accessibility and universal design, beautiful public open spaces and parks, community-based planning, and walkable, pedestrian-friendly cities are necessities for everyone. ADVOCACY AND POLICY We believe in advocating for legislation and policy that advance the architect s role in the built environment; to promote design solutions that directly impact our most compelling challenges; and to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public. DESIGN EXCELLENCE We believe that design excellence encompasses more than aesthetic and functional beauty. Design is also a leadership and facilitation skill that helps our clients and communities creatively address real world needs for the benefit of all. 07 SUPPORTING EMERGING PROFESSIONALS We believe that young architects have the skills, talent, and responsibility to lead and transform the architectural profession and that the AIA should help prepare them for extraordinary careers ahead. 3
