Living With Student Housing and Dining Services Eligibility Table Over 11,000 Residents Each Year Each year UC Davis is home to more than 11,000 students. More than 2,000 students live in one of several campus apartment communities, with almost 1,000 in the Student Housing and Dining Services transfer-student housing program. Other factors, including wait lists, may impact the availability of housing space regardless of eligibility. Accessibility UC Davis works with students to ensure every student has access to university resources. Wheelchair-accessible rooms are available for students who need them. When applying for housing, students should advise Student Housing and Dining Services that they require special accommodations so the necessary arrangements may be made before move-in. In addition, students should contact the Student Disability Center (sdc.ucdavis.edu) to learn about other resources and to coordinate their needs with their professors. Student Populations UC Davis provides apartment options for students in various stages of their academic careers and personal lives: unmarried undergraduate, graduate and professional students, students with families and students who prefer living in a cooperative. The table on page 2 describes eligibility for each type of housing. Below is a brief summary for each student population. Incoming Transfer Students Incoming transfer students have many housing options, on or off campus. Student Housing and Dining Services guarantees housing in communities specifically for transfer students. See pages 4 7 to learn more about Student Housing Apartments (SHA). Students With Families Students who have children or those who are married or in registered domestic partnerships can live in the Solano and Russell apartment complexes. s locations offer family-friendly environments and support. Graduate and Professional Students Students in graduate and professional programs are eligible to live in all UC Davis apartments except Student Housing Apartments (transfer program). Student Housing Apartments What are the Apartments Like? Size The size and layout of each apartment varies. Apartments feature single-occupancy and/ or double-occupancy bedrooms, living room, dining room, full kitchen, one to four bathrooms and closet space. Furnishings All apartments are fully furnished with an extra-long, twin-size bed and mattress, desk, chair, dresser, desktop bookshelf, desk lamp and waste containers in each bedroom. In addition, the living room is furnished with a couch, chair and coffee table, and the dining room has a dining room table and chairs. Academic Advising Centers housing.ucdavis.edu/academics/ academic-advising-centers Academic Advising Centers (AAC) provide convenient, personalized academic support for every SHA student through peer advisors and Office of Educational Opportunity and Enrichment Services (OEOES) tutors. Peer Advisors Peer advisors from all four colleges Letters and Science, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Biological Sciences and Engineering and the First-Year Experience program provide academic planning assistance, major exploration, grading options, internship information and connections with other campus resources. Peer Tutoring In addition to peer advisors, tutors from the Student Academic Support Hub are available most evenings on a drop-in basis for free assistance with common first-year courses, such as math, chemistry and writing. AAC Locations Student Housing and Dining Services has three AAC locations, and all AACs offer Residence Hall Advising Team and OEOES resources. For residents who are looking for a space to study, read or work on group projects, the AAC is the ideal place. Refer to the website for more information, including hours and locations. Computer Centers and Support Computer Centers provide complimentary access to computers, printers (up to 250 free pages per quarter), scanners, internet access and space for studying and holding review sessions. Desktop computers and terminals run Windows, Microsoft Office Suite and Firefox. A Computer Center is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week in all three housing areas, with Residental Computing Advisors (RCAs) available seven days a week to provide computer and software support. Learn more at housing.ucdavis.edu/ computers/rescomp_support.asp. How to Apply for SHA Before applying for housing, students must submit their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR). Students who have submitted their SIR and are eligible to live in Student Housing Apartments may then apply for housing. Go to myadmissions.ucdavis.edu and select Housing Application Request to begin the application. Be sure to read the Terms of Use and all contract information. Students must complete their application by the Student Housing and Dining Services contracts deadline to qualify for guaranteed housing. Applicants filing after the deadline will be offered housing based upon available space. Reservation Fee A $500 reservation fee is due by the application deadline. When applying for fall quarter, the reservation fee can be paid online when the application is submitted by selecting Pay my reservation fee and may also be sent by mail. SHA Fees housing.ucdavis.edu/fees SHA fees vary based upon two factors: room occupancy and meal plan. Apartment location and size (except for studios) do not affect rates. Payments are made in three installments, due September 15, December 15 and March 15. Student Housing and Dining Services does not invoice for these fees, but an online statement is available at mybill.ucdavis.edu. 2018 19 Rates To improve services and expand options for our students living on campus, Student Housing and Dining Services is updating meal plans for the 2018 19 academic year. These changes will result in a minimal increase of 2 4 percent over 2017 18 rates. Please visit the Student Housing and Dining Services website for current rates and meal plans. Aggie Cash is automatically included in all meal plans. Aggie Cash program upgrades can be made to any meal plan for an additional fee. Dining at UC Davis UC Davis offers one of the best programs in collegiate dining: exceptional recipes, local and sustainable food sources and options for a wide range of dietary needs, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. Eateries on campus range from the residence hall dining commons to themed food trucks. The ASUCD Coffee House at the Memorial Union brews coffee and espresso and offers a variety of salads, baked goods, pizza and more. At The Silo, you ll find Spokes Grill, The Gunrock, Silo Market, Peet s Coffee and the food truck patio. At the Activities and Recreation Center, you can get snacks and drinks from Peet s Coffee or the Pro Shop. The Bio Brew in the Sciences Lab Building is another spot for drinks and snacks. Scrubs Cafe, a deli, grill and specialty coffee vendor, is located in the Health Sciences District. Dining With Student Housing and Dining Services Dining commons (DCs) are Student Housing and Dining Services dining facilities located in each residence hall area. DCs offer comfortable community dining with seasonal menus from themed platforms, including a soup and salad bar, grill, sautéed and pasta entrees, specialty entrées, open-fire brick pizza, Mongolian wok and desserts. A wide range of beverages is also available, including Fair Trade coffee and infused water and teas. A market is located in each residence hall area. Markets sell a variety of food, including house-made microwavable meals and a variety of salads and sandwiches. Snacks, chips, candy bars, gum, ice cream and beverages, including water, tea, Fair Trade coffee, smoothies and energy drinks, are also available. Markets are open from morning until late evening every weekday and during evenings on the weekend. Meal Plans for SHA Residents Every SHA contract includes the option to add a meal plan to be used in the dining commons. Meal plans are available in a few different quantities. Meal plans are valid until the end of the academic year and do not roll into summer sessions. Visit housing.ucdavis.edu/ dining/dining_plans.asp for more information on meal plans. Changing Meal Plans Students who determine their meal needs require a larger or smaller meal plan may change their plan during scheduled meal plan change periods in between each academic quarter. Nutrition Student Housing and Dining Services places an emphasis on planning and serving nutritious meals using food that is in season, local and sustainable, whenever possible. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are available at every meal and entrées can be customized to meet a student s needs or allergy limitations. A registered dietitian is available to assist students with planning a healthy diet. Sustainability The dining program composts or recycles over 95 percent of its waste. Student Housing and Dining Services reduces food waste and water usage by removing trays from the dining rooms and offering a reusable dishware program for student events in the residence areas. 8 9

Solano Apartments How to Apply 1. Visit housing.ucdavis.edu/apply 2. Select Application Process for Solano Apartments 3. Download, complete and submit to Student Housing and Dining Services an application with the $20 application fee Application Timeline and Occupancy Information Students may apply for Solano Apartments at any time. Students do not have to be enrolled in classes at UC Davis to apply to live at Solano and should apply early to ensure availability. Eligibility All UC Davis students are eligible to live in Solano. However, priority is placed on providing housing to students with children or married students. * Important financial aid information: To be considered for an on-campus budget, students must be in a residence hall or Student Housing Apartment. Students are not eligible for an on-campus budget if they do not have an official UC Davis Student Housing and Dining Services contract. Residing in housing located on campus and/or opting to purchase a meal plan (available to all students) does not meet the criteria for an on-campus budget. Students living in the Solano Apartments with a lease agreement also do not qualify for an on-campus budget. Solano is a Student Housing Apartment community on the southeast corner of campus. Named for its park-like setting, with plentiful lawn and shade trees, Solano s mission is to provide safe, well-maintained, comfortable campus apartments at affordable rates. Regular community events include potlucks, children s crafts and games, and health awareness activities. International Students and Scholars Many international students attend UC Davis each year. Some international students come to study for a short amount of time a few weeks, perhaps a quarter while others enroll for a year or more, often pursuing a degree. Whatever the length of stay, Student Housing and Dining Services offers housing to meet international students needs. Living Here a Little While International students attending UC Davis for less than a year are eligible to live with Student Housing and Dining Services. Students may live in the residence halls or apartment communities. Housing space is subject to availability, and not all students qualify for all types of housing. Contact Student Housing and Dining Services to learn more about housing availability, pricing and how to apply. Living Here for the Year Most international students entering UC Davis in the fall as freshmen or transfer students are eligible for housing either in the residence halls or Student Housing Apartments, provided they meet eligibility requirements and deadlines. Those who are eligible will receive a housing offer after they submit their SIR. Those who do not qualify for guaranteed housing or require different accommodations should call Student Housing and Dining Services to learn about their options. Community Housing Listing chl.ucdavis.edu ASUCD maintains the Community Housing Listing (CHL) as a service for UC Davis students and other Davis community members. CHL is an online collection of community (off-campus) housing listings. chl.ucdavis.edu Getting Around One of the best characteristics of the UC Davis campus and community is the variety of travel options. UC Davis is a large campus, but much of it can be traveled quickly on foot. Several options are available for those who desire another form of transportation. An extensive bicycle path system connects all of UC Davis and the city, and there are thousands of bike parking stalls throughout campus, allowing the majority of students to bike to their classes. When in need, parts and service may be found at the Bike Barn (bikebarn.ucdavis.edu) on campus and at the many bicycle shops in town. UC Davis and the Davis community. Buses run on extensive routes throughout the city, operating 16 hours each weekday during the academic year. Undergraduate students receive free, unlimited access to Unitrans. Alternative Transportation taps.ucdavis.edu Cycling-Friendly Community Davis is home to more bicycles per capita than Unitrans Buses Visit the Transportation Services website and click any other U.S. city and offers more than 50 miles of bicycle paths.
