HOUSTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE SOUTHWEST COURSE SYLLABUS PRINCIPLES OF REAL ESTATE i RELE 1001 Overview of licensing as a real estate broker or salesperson. Includes ethics of practice as a license holder, titles to and conveyance of real estate, legal descriptions, deeds, encumbrances and liens, distinctions between personal and real property, appraisal, finance and regulations, closing procedures, and real estate mathematics. Covers at least three hours of classroom instruction on federal, state, and local laws relating to housing discrimination, housing credit discrimination, and community reinvestment. Fulfills at least 30 of 60 hours of required instruction for salesperson license.. COURSE OBJECTIVE The student shall exhibit knowledge of the field of real estate by answering multiple-choice questions covering reading material from the text. GOALS The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of licensing as a real estate broker or salesperson. LEARNING OUTCOMES Demonstrate a comprehensive working knowledge of the principles of real estate and how they apply to the real estate industry. PREREQUISITE None REQUIRED TEXTBOOK Texas Real Estate by Charles J. Jacobus (9th Edition) COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS This is a 48-hour instructor guided course. Student will complete hands-on, in-class assignments. ATTENDANCE To fully benefit from the class, students are expected to attend all classes. To receive a Certificate of Completion and Continuing Education Units, students must meet the following requirements: Attend at least 80% of scheduled class time Complete the course assessment demonstrating 80% mastery of course concepts or equivalent skills demonstration to instructor. STUDENT EVALUATION The course grade will be based on daily quizzes (10%), Mid-Term Exam (40%) and cumulative Final Exam (50%).
