Mike discusses ways tenancy agreements are enforced with the use of clear language ensuring tenants are treated fairly and just. 10.50 Affordable Tenancies: The right agreement for the right customer Arthur Moore, Barrister, Hardwicke A tenancy agreement details rights and responsibilities as a tenant and responsibilities of a landlord. We look into the different types of tenancy agreements available and the importance of ensuring the right agreement is given to the right customer. 11.20 Refreshments Programme 11.35 Courting disaster: common issues with public sector tenancy agreements Dean Underwood, Barrister, Hardwicke In this session we delve into the miscellany of issues that arise in landlord and tenant litigation. Dean also looks into what tenancy agreements need to contain. 12.35 Lunch 13.05 Making and varying your Tenancy Agreement Christopher Skinner, Associate, Capsticks Landlords need to be careful how to modify tenancy agreements to prevent legal challenges in the future. Communication with tenants is essential for sourcing problems. Christopher also discusses the importance of procedures ensuring housing officers know the tenancies available. 14.05 Recent developments on possession cases Liz Davies, Barrister, Garden Court Chambers This session looks into recent developments exploring rent arrears, anti-social behaviour, suitable alternative accommodation and human rights. 14.50 Legal Eagles: Panel Session Guest Speakers This session is your chance to ask your questions regarding your organisations tenancy agreements. Mike Owen, Partner, Capsticks Michael Owen is a partner and heads up the Housing Management team at Capsticks Solicitors. He has extensive experience in the sector, specialising in housing management and litigation. He is regularly invited to speak at national conferences and undertakes training in-house and for external training agencies countrywide. Arthur Moore, Barrister, Hardwicke Arthur was called to the Bar in 1992. Since 1997 he has specialized in disputes over land with an emphasis on social housing. He has appeared in several of the important cases for both landlords and tenants. He regularly advises public sector landlords on a variety of property management issues, as well as lecturing and providing training in these areas. Dean Underwood, Barrister, Hardwicke Dean Underwood has wowed sources with his impressive attention to detail, his great technical eye and his good rapport with the judiciary. Chambers UK, 2013. Dean is head of Hardwicke s housing team. He is recognised in The Legal 500 and Chambers UK as a leading junior in public, administrative and housing law. His practice covers all aspects of housing and homelessness, welfare benefits, community care and the Court of Protection. Christopher Skinner, Associate, Capsticks Speaker Biographies Chris is an Associate in the Social Housing Litigation team at Coffin Mew and specialises in all areas of Housing Management. He has experience of litigating housing matters up to, and including the Court of Appeal and regularly advises Housing Associations on policy and best practice in various areas of housing management. Liz Davies, Barrister, Garden Court Chambers Liz Davies is a barrister at Garden Court Chambers, specialising in housing law. She is co-author with Jan Luba QC of Housing Allocation and Homelessness (Jordans, 2012). She is described by Chambers and Partners 2013 as a star individual and " a "brilliant advocate" in the field of social housing.
