The programme combined plenary lectures, public lectures, tutorials, posters, invited and contributed papers organized around the 10 Commissions of URSI. In total, over 1200 participants from all of over the world attended the event and made it a real assembly of the URSI community. In this newsletter, we briefly list some highlights. URSI has a clear intention to support Young Scientists through its YS Programme and through supporting and organising Student Paper Competitions. In total, 238 applied for a Young Scientist award, of which about 100 were granted. Out of the 1319 total submissions, 102 submitted their paper for the URSI Student Paper Competition. 10 finalists were awarded prizes, and received their prize on the occasion of the Conference Banquet (picture at right).

Information from URSI Member Committees Swedish Radio and Microwave Days Stockholm, March 2012. One of the main tasks of SNRV (Svenska Nationalkommittén för RadioVetenskap, the Swedish URSI committee) is to promote scientific radio research in Sweden. Since 1949, a means for this purpose has been the RVK (RadioVetenskap och Kommunikation, a multidisciplinary radio science conference), an excellent contact opportunity for interdisciplinary networking. Over the years and in addition to RVK, some more specialized events have taken place, such as Antenna, GHz and EMB. Interest in these has always been great. However, they do not cover all SNRV areas, viz. measurement techniques, electromagnetic fields and waves, radio communication and signal processing, electronics and photonics, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), wave propagation, remote sensing, space applications including radio astonomy as well as electromagnetics in biology and medicine. The time has come to combine all these conferences into the Swedish Radio and Microwave Days that will comprise overlapping RVK, GigaHertz and a merged AntennEMB. The time has also come to use English as the conference language. (http://ursi france.institut telecom.fr/index.php?id=13) Egypt National Radio Science Conference (NRSC2012), Cairo Egypt, 10 to 12 April 2012 The 29th National Radio Science Conference (NRSC 2012) will be held on April 10 12, 2012, at the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, Giza, Egypt. The conference is organized by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) and the National Radio Science Committee (NRSC). The technical program will consist of invited sessions on selected topics and contributed sessions. The submitted papers must describe original work and lie in the scope of one of URSI Commissions A K.
