Source of death date and location was the Robert P. Montgomery Family Bible. Margaret died in Lawrence County, Alabama, on 18 Mar 1851; she was 75. In the 1850 Lawrence County Alabama census she recorded that she was 75 years old and was born in Virginia. Margaret Alexander Montgomery s line is NSDAR approved for James Alexander s service at the Battle of Kings Mountain. NSDAR Patriot Number A206280. On 28 Nov 1798 when Margaret was 22, she married John Montgomery (9), son of Alexander Montgomery (abt 1750-13 Jul 1830) & Sarah Alexander (abt 1752-8 May 1832), in Blount, TN. Born on 4 May 1775 in Virginia. John died in Lawrence County, Alabama, on 2 Jan 1856; he was 80. See "Some Early Settlers of Lawrence County Alabama", Taylor & Taylor Page 112-116 for the family Bible transcription showing that John Montgomery was the father of James Madison Montgomery. John was recorded in the 1820, 1830, 1840 and 1850 Lawrence County, Alabama census. On the 1850 census he indicated he was born in Virginia and was 75 years old. John was among the first white settlers in Lawrence County. John is a church founder and elder (1820-1856) per the Old Prospect Presbyterian Church minutes. A transcribed copy of the minutes is found in Old Lawrence Reminiscences Volume 17, Number 1, March 2003. Before settling in Alabama John and Margaret lived in Tennessee. The Williamson County 1806 land records lists John with 120 acres of land. Maury County Tennessee Tax book (1808-1811) lists Alexander Montgomery (150 acres on Fountain Creek, and Alexander Montgomery s sons - John, Joseph and James living on Fountain Creek. Before 1806, the John and Margaret Montgomery family resided in Blount County, Tennessee. See Blount County, Tennessee 1800 and 1801 Tax Lists. The minister who performed the marriage of John and Margaret was Gideon Blackburn of Blount, TN. There was a marriage bond posted in JeffersonCounty, TN. The bondsman was Margaret s father, James Alexander. January 24, 1799. John s death date is based on the Old Prospect Church minutes. Due to the age of the markers and vandalism, the grave marker could not be located. He was an elder in the church at the time of his death and there are identifiable markers for his infant great grandson W.H Montgomery (son of RC Montgomery). 11 i. The marriage license in Madison County was signed by Martha s Father, John

In 1826 when Mary (Polly) was 20, she married Harvey Craig, son of John Craig (24 May 1764-24 Mar 1852) & Martha (-1832), in Lawrence County, Alabama. Born in 1803. 13 vi. Born on 8 Jan 1798 in Tennessee. Martha Long(Patsy) died in Jasper, Jasper County, Texas, in 1864; she was 65. On 22 Jun 1820 when Martha Long(Patsy) was 22, she married Jabez Isbell in Lawrence County, Alabama. Born in 1793 in South Carolina. Jabez died in Texas on 17 Dec 1868; he was 75. ii. Sarah Vance (Sally). Born on 10 Oct 1799 in Tennessee. Sarah Vance (Sally) died in 1847; he was 47. On 24 Sep 1818 when Sarah Vance (Sally) was 18, he married John Gregg in Lawrence County, Alabama. John was among the first white settlers in Lawrence County. John is a church founder and elder (1820-1856) per the Old Prospect Presbyterian Church minutes. The Williamson County 1806 land records lists John with 120 acres of land. The Taylor Book says that the son of John and Margaret was a "James Matthew". From the Death Certificate of his son, Robert Craig, James middle name was Madison. The fact that James Madison was the son of John and Margaret is documented from a newpaper article describing his moving with his father to Lawrence County Alabama. Article was July 10, 1890, Moulton Advertiser. James was also recorded as a member of the Old Prospect Church. The article said that he marries Susan a resident of Limestone County after a short courtship and moved to Lawrence County Alabama. The Robert C. Montgomery Bible (in possession of John R. Montgomery) and the reference to the James M. Montgomery Bible (location unknown) as referenced by Taylor and the Robert Craig Montgomery death certificate establish this relationship.
