The homestead was wholly or, in part, in possession of hi s descendants for seven generations. John Knowles was blind for the last ten years of his life. His great, great grandson, Deacon Jesse Knowles also lived in th e homestead. After being blind for 8 years, he suddenly recovered his sight. An inspection of the building before demolition in 2001 revealed very old pegged timbers in the attic, leading us to the belief that this building had been on its site for nearly two centuries. This is the left front corner of the house. Pegs are clearly visible in the right front corner. Note the modern materials used to add a vent to the attic.
