R. Ambedkar,(Chief architect of Indian Constitution) submitted e Constitution on 26 November, 1949 which was adopted by e Constituent Assembly and signed by Dr. Rajendra Prasad. In e noreast of e University ere is an old 'Buddha-stupa' which preserves e heritage and culture of Buddhist era. The university is situated in old Thanesar City which was headed by e Buddha-Samrat Harshavardhan. Over and above e university has a beautiful green campus which extends over an area of 400 acres. -3-
ABOUT THE CENTRE The Centre for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Studies was set up in Kurukshetra University in June, 1992 to mark e centenary celebrations of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar who played an important role in e constitutional development and emancipation of e deprived classes. The objectives of e centre include to study e work of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar scientifically and objectively, to understand Dr. Ambedkar's relevance today, to study problems such as untouchability, social injustice etc. in e light of his ideas, to collect and publish writings and speeches on Dr. Ambedkar, to bring out publications in terms of books and journals devoted to his life and e subjects in which he was interested in and to propagate e philosophy of Dr. Ambedkar among e society, to encourage students of M.Phil and Ph.D courses and oer scholars to work on Dr. Ambedkar and Dalit literature, to organize seminars, symposia, lectures and competitions on Dr. Ambedkar's life, work and ideology and to provide a common platform to e scholars working on Dr. Ambedkar's oughts in India and abroad to share eir views and experiences. st So, on e occasion of 121 bir anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, chief architect of Indian Constitution, e Centre for Dr. B. R. AIM & OBJECTIVES OF THE SEMINAR I know today we are divided politically, socially and economically. We are in warring camps and I am probably one of e leaders of a warring camp. But wi all is I am convinced at, given time and circumstances, noing in e world will prevent is country from becoming one, and, wi all our castes and creeds, I have not hesitation in saying at we shall in some form be a united people". ---Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was born in an untouchable family and subjected to consistent caste based discrimination by e Hindu society, became first talented person of e world as per e analysis made by Cambridge University, London. Eventually, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar gained a reputation as a world scholar and advocated political and social rights and freedoms for untouchables. He is regarded as a Bodhisattva by Buddhists, ough he never claimed himself to be a Bodhisattva. Ambedkar emerged as a powerful jurist, political leader, Buddhist activist, philosopher, inker, anropologist, historian, orator, prolific writer, economist, scholar, editor, revolutionary and a revivalist for Buddhism in India. He was e chief architect of e Indian Constitution. Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was posumously awarded e Bharatratna, India's highest civilian award, in 1990. So, e present seminar is an attempt to critically evaluate e relevance of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar's vision and mission in present scenario and to prepare an extensive vision and mission document for e times to come. Thus, e objective of e seminar as follows: 1. To understand e vision and mission of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. 2. To promote e ideas on social, economic, political, religious, human rights & constitutional reforms by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. 3. To expand a model based on e critical evaluation of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar's vision and mission on education (higher, professional & technical) & weaker sections of e society. 4.
