Situation Combeinteignhead is an attractive, small village within a Conservation Area close to the southern bank of the River Teign Estuary, a few miles to the east of Newton Abbot and north of Torquay. In the village is a fine parish church and the popular Wild Goose Inn, whilst on the estuary bank is the Coombe Cellars Inn. The village contains a number of attractive stone, cob and thatched period houses and cottages, including the almshouses. The nearby village of Stokeinteignhead possesses a village shop and primary school and, at the mouth of the Teign Estuary, is the larger village of Shaldon, centred around its beautiful village green and with pubs, shops and restaurants and passenger ferry across the river to Teignmouth. Newton Abbot possesses a full selection of local amenities, including its racecourse and there is a golf course at Teignmouth. To the south is Torbay and the English Riviera and easy access to the stunning South Devon coast, with its many beaches and estuaries, as well as spectacular coastal walks. Just beyond Newton Abbot, to the north-west, is Dartmoor National Park, renowned for its wonderful scenery and providing many opportunities for walking, riding, fishing, etc. There are good opportunities for sailing and other water sports in and around the River Teign Estuary, close by. Communications Access to the A380 at Newton Abbot is about 2 miles away, leading south to Torbay and north to the university and cathedral city of Exeter, where there is access onto the M5 motorway and an international airport.
