Franz Klassen, b. 1876 states in his family register that his grandfather David Klassen's (b. 1812) siblings were Bernhard, Wilhelm, Konrad and Johann and they settled in Kronsgarten. If this is the David, b. 1812 in Shapansky's list, then the siblings are also Anna, Heinrich, and Peter. Peter Klassen's register also lists a Peter, as well as a Jakob, and two daughters and states they settled in Kronsweide. He took possession of his father-in-law Franz Klassen's (b. ca 1768) #197260 home in Kronsgarten, Chortitza Colony in 1849 following Franz Klassen's death per Odessa Archive, Fund 6, Inventory 5, File 132. In the 1858 Chortitza Colony Census he was listed at Kronsgarten #6. He married Maria Klassen, 17 Jun 1836. 15. Maria Klassen, b. 20 Sep 1811 in Kronsgarten, Chortitza, South Russia, d. 29 Jul 1902. Katharina was buried in the Guenter cemetery on NW26-40-5-3. Katharina and her son Jakob moved to Canada or Mexico. Cemetery record says she died 1912. Another 1

record says 1913. Her death is 21 Sep 1912 on p69 of "Men of Steele." In that book on Steele district, Guenter Cemetery is said to be on se26-40-5w3, but it says sw26 on http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~skmhss/guenter.html 17. Katharina Wall, b. 24 Oct 1801, d. 17 Jun 1860. In the Oct 1816 Chortitza Colony Census she is listed at Schoenhorst #15 as a servant in the household of Bernhard Rempel (b. 3 Feb 1763) #196687. 18. Peter Hildebrandt, b. 3 Mar 1754 in Broeske, Gross Werder, Prussia, d. 27 Mar 1849 in Insel Chortitza, Chortitza, South Russia, buried in Insel Chortitza, Chortitza, South Russia. He was of Lutheran background. He lived in Bohnsack, Prussia at the time of his emigration to Russia in 1788. He arrived at the Chortitza Colony in July 1789 and was an original settler in Insel Chortitza (P. Rempel, p. 17). In the 1795 and 1801 Chortitza Colony Censuses he is listed at Insel Chortitza #6 (B. H. Unruh, p. 239). He was ordained on July 10, 1810 in the Old-Kronsweider Church. In the Oct 1816 Census he is listed at Insel Chortitza #5 where his family's census data as of 1814 is given. He transferred his home in Insel Chortitza, Chortitza Colony to his son-in-law Jacob Wiebe in 1847 due to his declining health per Odessa Archive, Fund 6, Inventory 5, File 70. The book Hildebrand Story by Isaak Klassen (b. 3 Jan 1899) #459403 on p. 16 states that Peter Hildebrandt was born in Tiege, Prussia but was educated in Broeske. On p. xi In the forward to the book From Danzig to Russia, Victor Peters (who was a great great great grandson of Peter Hildebrandt) states that Peter Hildebrandt was born in Broeske. The book Hildebrand Story on p. 15 says that one of his daughters married a David Penner who lived in Insel Chortitza. His daughter Sara Hildebrandt (b. 1817) may have been the daughter who married David Penner, who is likely David Penner (b. ca 1812) #198346. The Braun book calls him Jacob Hildebrandt. He married (1) Helena Hoeppner, 8 Feb 1793 in Insel Chortitza, Chortitza, South Russia. He married (2) Aganetha Braun, 10 Aug 1834 in South Russia, b. 9 Jul 1781 in Lakendorf, Gross Werder, Prussia, d. 17 Aug 1851 in Chortitza Colony, South Russia, buried in Insel Chortitza, Chortitza, South Russia, In the 1801 Census her age is given as 20, suggesting that she was born ca 1781. In the 1814 Census her age is given as 31, suggesting that she was born ca 1783. In the Oct 1816 Census her age is given as 56, which appears to be incorrect. National Archives microfilm #T81 610, p. 5401182 states she died 14 Aug 1851. The Hilda Muir submission says she was married abt 1802. 19. Helena Hoeppner, b. 11 May 1775 in Brodsack, Gross Werder, Prussia, d. 18 Jun 1833 in Insel Chortitza, Chortitza, South Russia, buried 20 Jul 1833 in Insel Chortitza, Chortitza, South Russia. One record says she was born 11 Mar 1775. One family record says she died 18 July. She drowned in the Dnieper River, offshore of Insel Chortitza. National Archives microfilm #T81 610, p. 5401182 states she was born 11 Mar 1775 and that she died 19 Jun 1833. The book Hildebrand Story on p. 16 states that she died 18 or 19 Jul 1833. Her tombstone inscription says she died 18 Jun 1833. 20. Heinrich Bestvater, b. Abt 1774, d. 30 Jul 1822 in Schoenauerfeld, Prussia. He left a widow and 3 unmarried children. The Wernersdorf record gives marriage date of 28 Aug. He married Catharina Neufeld, 8 Aug 1809 in Krebsfelde, Gross Werder, Prussia. 21. Catharina Neufeld. 28. Peter Konrad Klassen, b. 1 Dec 1773 in Schulwiese, Marienwerder, Prussia. He resided in Schulwiese, Stuhm, Prussia at the time of his baptism. In the 1801 Kronsgarten census, Peter is listed as a weaver, age 27, living at Kronsgarten #5 with his wife Helena, age 27, their daughter Anna, 3. They owned 3 horses, 6 cattle, 16 sheep, 10 pigs, 1/2 plow, 1 wagon, 1 spinning wheel. Since both Peter and Johann owned 1/2 plow, it's assumed they shared ownership of one plow. This could be the Peter Klassen whose signature appears in voting records from the Odessa State Archives, fond 6, inventory 2, file 10512, p. 6). In the 1814 census Peter's wife is Anna. and 3 children are listed Heinrich, Peter, and David. My great-great grandfather Konrad will have been born shortly after this census. Several family records state there was also a Wilhelm & Johann and two daughters who se first names are unknown. One daughter married a Salomon Peters; the other a Mr. Hildebrandt. In the 1816 Kronsgarten Census he is listed at Kronsgarten #2 (Stumpp's book The Emigration from Russia to Germany, p. 873). In 1852 he transferred the ownership of his house to his son Wilhelm due to his old age (Odessa Archives, Fund 6, Inventory 3, File 15395). He married (1) Helena, b. Abt 1774, d. 1807 1811 in Kronsgarten, Chortitza, South Russia, Helena is listed in the 1801 Kronsgarten census as being married to Peter with one child Anna. It's assumed Helena must have died around 1812 since Peter's wife in the 1814 census is Anna. He married (2) Anna Plenert, 1807 1811. 29. Anna Plenert, b. Abt 1794. 30. Franz Klassen, b. Abt 1768, d. Abt 1849. He was living in Rosenkratz, Prussia about 1792 (The Old Colony, p. 422). He migrated from Prussia to Russia by 1793 and settled in Kronsgarten, Chortitza, S. Russia in 1793 (P. Rempel, p. 19). In the 1797 Chortitza Colony Census he is listed in Kronsgarten (P. Rempel, p. 19). In the 1801 Chortitza Colony Census he is listed at Kronsgarten #13 and he was also listed in Kronsgarten in the 1806 Census (P. Rempel, p. 19). In the 1816 Kronsgarten Census he is listed at Kronsgarten #8 (Karl Stumpp's book The Emigration from Germany to Russia, p. 873). His home in Kronsgarten was transferred to his son-in-law David Klassen (b. 4 Nov 1812) #374089 in 1849 following his death per Odessa Archive, Fund 6, Inventory 5, File 132. He married (1) Katarina Goertzen, 20 Nov 1792 in Rosenkranz, Stuhm, Prussia, b. Abt 1772 in Prussia, d. Bef 1801. He married (2) Sara Kauenhowen, Abt 1801. 31. Sara Kauenhowen, b. Abt 1778. 3rd Great-Grandparents 32. Dietrich "Derk" Dyck, b. Abt 1737, d. 1834 in Chortitza Colony, South Russia. In the 1795 Chortitza Colony Census he is listed as a recent Flemish Mennonite immigrant assigned administratively to Schoenwiese (B. H. Unruh, p. 244). In the 1801 Chortitza Colony Census he is listed at Schoenhorst #17. In the Oct 1816 Census he is listed at Schoenhorst #14. In the 1795 Census his age is given as 56, suggesting that he was born ca 1739 (B. H. Unruh, p. 244). In the 1801 Chortitza Colony Census his age is given as 65, suggesting that he was born ca 1736. In 2

the Oct 1816 Census his age is given as 79, suggesting that he was born ca 1737. He married (1) Maria Goosen, b. Abt 1741, d. 1795 1799. He married (2) Maria Bollee, 1797. 33. Maria Bollee, b. 19 Jan 1773 in Prussia, d. 15 Jan 1844. The Schoenhorst Article indicates she was born in 1774. 34. Peter Wall, b. Abt 1775, d. 1809 1816. His marriage to Katharina Wall in 1799 apparently took place in either Koldowe or Fogelsang, Prussia per the Heubuden Mennonite Church Records. He migrated from Marienburg, Prussia to S. Russia in 1805 with his family and a Sarah Janzen, age 19, who was said to have been a relative (P. Rempel, p. 97). He apparently settled in the Chortitza Colony since he was residing in Schoenhorst in 1809 per the Chortitza Colony vaccination lists. He had died by Oct 1816 since his wife is listed in the Oct 1816 Census at Schoenhorst #2 with her second husband Johann Wiens. He married Katharina Wall, 19 Nov 1799 in Prussia. 35. Katharina Wall, b. Abt 1775. 36. Michael Hildebrandt, b. 1714 in Broeske, Gross Werder, Prussia, d. 1768 in Broeske, Gross Werder, Prussia. Other children of Michael were Maria, Regina, Frosine, and Michael. They were all members of the Lutheran church. One family record says he was born in 1730 and died in 1784. He married Maria Boerends, Bef 1754. 37. Maria Boerends, b. Abt 1732 in Broeske, Gross Werder, Prussia, d. 1780 in Broeskerhinterfeld, Prussia. She reached at least 48 years of age. The book Hildebrand Story on p. 17 states that her surname was Boerns. 38. Jakob Hoeppner, b. 3 Jan 1748, d. 4 Mar 1826 in Insel Chortitza, Chortitza, South Russia, buried in Insel Chortitza, Chortitza, South Russia. Jacob H. was one of the delegates sent to Russia by the Prussian church to look at land and negotiate rights for the Mennonites. Unfortunately, when the Mennonites started to arrive they were disappointed with the available land in Chortitza. He was accused of embezzlement, withholding funds promised by the Russian government, and negotiating in bad faith. In the 1795 Chortitza Colony Census he is listed at Insel Chortitza #4 (B. H. Unruh, p. 238). In the 1801 Census his family is listed at Insel Chortitza #4, but he himself was not listed in the census. The diary of Jacob Niebuhr (b. 4 May 1862) says he was born 22 Dec 1748, which was apparently his o. s. birth date. One record says he died 5 May 1826. His new style (and original) birthdate was 3 Jan, but he returned to the old style (Julian) calendar when he migrated to Russia. However, if his old style birthdate was actually 22 Dec 1748, then his new style birthdate should be 3 Jan 1749. He married Sara Dueck, 12 Oct 1773 in Prussia. 39. Sara Dueck, b. 17 Nov 1753 in Neustaedterwald, Gross Werder, Prussia, d. 27 Feb 1826 in Insel Chortitza, Chortitza, South Russia, buried in Insel Chortitza, Chortitza, South Russia. Buried in same grave with Jacob. National Archives microfilm #T81 610, p. 5401184 gives her surname as Dschak and states she died 27 Mar 1826. Another record says she died 27 Feb 1826 (o.s). Ihr Vater war Bauer in Neustädter - Ellerwald bei Tiegenhof. 40. Simon Bestvater, b. Abt 1720, d. 19 Apr 1795. Apparently he was still alive on Pentecost of 1795. He must have died shortly after that. He married. 41.. 42. Jacob Neufeld. Could this be the same as #345777?? 56. Kohnert Klassen, b. Bef 1745, d. 1797 1801. Tragheimerweide records, page 30: surname is Klaas. He may have originally been from the Tragheimerweide region. He was living in the Klein Werder between 1765 and 1768 when the deaths of two of his children were recorded in the Elbing-Neuheide Lutheran Church Records. He may be the Konert Klaassen listed in the 1772 W. Prussia Census in Rosenkranz with a wife and one son under 12. In the 1777 census of Mennonites in E. Prussia he is listed in Grigulinen, Lithuania with 3 sons and 1 daughter (H. Penner, p. 422). He was classified as a farmer. His first name is incorrectly given as Howert in the Horst Penner's published version of the census and his surname is given as Claass. His name is given as Kohnert Klas in the 1777 membership list for the Mennonite congregation in Lithuania. However, he is not included in the 1784-1786 membership list, suggesting that he may have moved back to West Prussia by 1784. He had moved to Schulwiese, Prussia by 1787, where he was a member of the Tragheimerweide Gemeinde. He migrated from Prussia to Kronsgarten, Chortitza, S. Russia by 1793 and is listed in Kronsgarten in the 1797 Chortitza Colony Census (P. Rempel, p. 19). He likely died between 1797 and 1801 since he isn't listed in the 1801 Chortitza Colony Census. He married. 57.. 58. Wilhelm Plenert, b. Abt 1767 in Montauerweide, Stuhm, Prussia, d. Abt 1810. He resided in Montauerweide, Prussia at the time of his baptism. He migrated from Prussia to Russia by 1793 and settled in Kronsgarten, Chortitza, S. Russia in 1793 (P. Rempel, p. 20). In the 1797 Chortitza Colony Census he is listed in Kronsgarten (P. Rempel, p. 20). In the 1801 Census he is listed at Kronsgarten #8. In the 1806 Census he is still listed in Kronsgarten (P. Rempel, p. 20). Could this be the same person as #310075? He married Anna Maria, Bef 1794. 59. Anna Maria, b. Abt 1771. She married (1) Wilhelm Plenert, Bef 1794. She married (2) Jacob Bartel, Abt 1811 in Kronsgarten, Chortitza, South Russia, b. Abt 1774 in Prussia, He was living in Fuchswinckel, Prussia at the time of his baptism. He migrated from Prussia to Russia by 1793 and settled in Kronsgarten, Chortitza, S. Russia in 1793 (P. Rempel, p. 20). In the 1797 Chortitza Colony Census he is listed in Kronsgarten (P. Rempel, p. 20). In the 1801 Census he is listed at Kronsgarten #15. Between 1804 and 1806 he gave this homestead to Jacob Klassen (b. 28 Apr 1769) #174103 (P. Rempel, p. 20). In the 1816 Census he is listed at Kronsgarten #4 (Stumpp's book, "The Emigration from 3

Germany to Russia," p. 873). He was Schulze [mayor] of Kronsgarten in 1800. He is listed as Jacob Bartel Mewesen in 1801 census where is age is 30. 60. Johan Klassen, b. Abt 1731, d. Abt 1796 in Chortitza Colony, South Russia. In the 1776 W. Prussia Census he is listed in Rosenkrantz with 2 sons and 1 daughter. He was a member of the Tragheimerweide Gemeinde. He migrated from Prussia to Kronsweide, Chortitza, S. Russia in 1789 (P. Rempel, p. 24). He was a minister in the Kronsweide Gemeinde, but was removed from office in 1793 (The Old Colony, p. 254). In the 1795 Chortitza Colony Census he is listed at Kronsweide #6 (B. H. Unruh, p. 242). He transferred his home in Kronsweide to Jacob Banman (b. ca 1777) #198970) between 1795 and 1797 (B. H. Unruh, p. 252) and may have moved to Kronsgarten. He had died by 1797 since his widow Katharina is listed in Kronsweide in 1797 (P. Rempel, p. 24). He married (1). He married (2) Katarina, 1787 1795, b. Abt 1746, In the 1797 Chortitza Colony Census she is listed as a widow in Kronsweide (P. Rempel, p. 24). In the 1816 Census she is listed at Kronsgarten #1 with her son Johann Klassen (b. ca 1767) #198728 (Stumpp's book The Emigration from Germany to Russia, p. 873). She may have been the mother of some of Heinrich Banman's younger children since her year of marriage to Heinrich Banman is unknown (Tim Janzen, 28 Apr 2010). 61.. 62. Philip Kauenhowen, b. 4 Apr 1748 in Schoenfeld, Danzig, Prussia, d. 29 Apr 1806 in Rosenthal, Chortitza, South Russia. One record says he was born 8 Apr 1748. After his marriage, he and his wife moved to Elbing, Prussia. In October 1788 they moved to Russia. In the 1795 Chortitza Colony Census he is listed at Kronsweide #23 (B. H. Unruh, p. 243). In the 1797 Census he is also listed in Kronsweide (P. Rempel, p. 24). Sometime between 1797 and 1802 he moved to Rosenthal (B. H. Unruh, p. 252, 253). He is not listed in the 1801 Census. B. H. Unruh, p. 296 states that he was born 4 Apr 1848. One source says he died 27 Apr 1806. He married Magdalena Toews, 5 Aug 1770 in Danzig, Poland. 63. Magdalena Toews, b. Abt 1750, d. 13 Oct 1802 in Rosenthal, Chortitza, South Russia. Her age is given as 55 at the time of her death in 1802 in the Chortitza Colony Vital Records, suggesting that she may have been born ca 1747. One record incorrectly says she was born 5 Apr 1730 and one record incorrectly says she died 27 Apr 1806. 4th Great-Grandparents 66. Wilhelm "Willem" Bollee, b. 3 Feb 1746 in Stolzenberg, Danzig, Prussia, d. 31 May 1789 in Schoenhorst, Chortitza, South Russia. On 2 July 1788, he, his wife, his three daughters, and a step-son, Wilhelm Zacharias, moved to Russia where he settled in Schoenhorst, Chortitza Colony (B. H. Unruh, p. 291; P. Rempel, p. 45). One record says he was born 3 Feb 1746 (2/3 vs. 3/2). If he died in Schoenhorst, Chortitza Colony, he must have died after July 1789 since the Chortitza Colony settlers didn't arrive at the Chortitza Colony until July 1789. Wlhelm had 4 daughters. The family migrated to South Russia 2 Jul 1788. He married Agatha Dyck, 19 Apr 1772 in Danzig-Schidlitz, Danzig, Poland. 67. Agatha Dyck, b. Mar 1746 in Prussia, d. 8 Oct 1823 in Schoenhorst, Chortitza, South Russia. In the Oct 1816 Chortitza Colony Census she is listed at Schoenhorst #9 in the household of her son-in-law Abraham Klassen (b. 28 Nov 1778) #174670. It is possible that another Agatha Dyck was the one that married Isebrand Friesen. However, she could not have been the mother of his children. One family record says this Agatha Dyck died 7 Oct. The Family Book Vol. 2 says he married Agatha Dyck 19 Apr 1772. She married (1) Wilhelm Zacharias, 9 Feb 1766 in Danzig-Stadtgebiet, Poland, b. 1742 in Danzig-Schidlitz, Danzig, Poland, d. 20 Jan 1772 in Stolzenberg, Danzig, Prussia, One family record says he was married to Agatha Dyck on 9 Feb 1766. If this is true, there is a problem with the birth dates of some of the children, which precede that date. Was he married before? Clarification is needed. Agatha was his widow when she married in 1772. Died age 28Y. She married (2) Wilhelm "Willem" Bollee, 19 Apr 1772 in Danzig-Schidlitz, Danzig, Poland. She married (3) Isbrand Friesen, 1790 1795 in South Russia, b. 14 Oct 1740, d. 1803, In the 1776 W. Prussia Census he is listed in Heubuden with his wife and two sons (H. Penner, p. 432). He was a member of the Heubuden Gemeinde. In the 1795 Chortitza Colony Census he is listed at Schoenhorst #9 (B. H. Unruh, p. 241) and in the 1801 Census at Schoenhorst #10. Charles Bergen says that he died in 1804. Henry Schapansky in his book Mennonite Migrations on p. 580 says that he died in 1803. 68. Cornelius Wall. In the 1776 W. Prussia Census he is listed in Schwansdorf with 3 sons and 1 daughter (H. Penner, p. 462). He was a member of the Ellerwald Gemeinde. 70. Friedrich Wall, b. Abt 1727, d. 13 Feb 1802 in Kalthof, Gross Werder, Prussia. One record says his given name was Ehrenfried. Henry Schapansky seems to have connected this man to his purported children based on the fact that they had sons named Friedrich. This Friedrich Wall, according to Hermann Thiessen, is the one listed in the 1776 Census at Czattkau. He married (1) Cornelia Suckau, d. 21 Nov 1763 in Danzig-Stadtgebiet, Poland. He married (2) Margaretha Regier, 29 Jan 1764 in Danzig-Heubude, Danzig, Poland. 71. Margaretha Regier, b. 12 Jul 1744, d. 17 Oct 1809 in Sandhof, Marienburg, Prussia. 76. Jacob Heppner, b. Abt 1719 in Danzig, Poland, d. 1776 1789 in Klein Mausdorferweide, Gross Werder, Prussia. In the 1772 W. Prussia Census he is listed in Klein Mausdorferweide with his wife, two sons over 10 years old, and one son under 10, two daughters under 10, and one male servant. At this time he owned 25 Morgan of land. His occupation is stated to have been a farmer. In the 1776 W. Prussia Census he is listed in Klein Mausdorferweide with his wife, one son and one daughter (H. Penner, p. 428). According to land records acquired by Glenn Penner from the Marbork Archives in Poland Jacob Heppner's widow Anna Kroeker remarried to Abraham Dyck. After her death the property was sold to Johann Klein of Waldorf and the proceeds were given to her children by Jacob Heppner, which were Anton, Anna, and Helena. This occurred sometime prior to 1789 since according to the 1789 W. Prussia Mennonite Land Census the property was owned by Johann Klein in 1789. Dennis Friesen's database, Linda Hiles' database, and Stanley Harder's book "From Prussia to Russia to North America: 300 year" give 4

Jacob Heppner's birth date as 25 Sep 1711, but this appears to be incorrect, this is the birth date of his brother Anthon.
